this is a very good notebook, it comes with great software and is very easy to set up. The only bad thing about it is that the outside loves to collect finger prints and i find myself wiping it off all the time. The light up keyboard is a must, even if you never use it its fun to brag that your keyboard lights up.

I purchased the dv6-3150us laptop about one month ago. I decided on this particular model as I was looking for a 15" laptop, 4Gb RAM, 500GB min, and since I'm planning for this laptop to last several years, I opted for one of the most state-of-the-art processors, which is the i5 series from Intel. I've had good experiences with HP laptops, and this being a Quick Ship model was nice. Physically, the laptop feels nice and solid, and feels good in my hands/lap. Not heavy and clunky. The "fit" is better than my prior 2 HP laptops. I've read that many people don't like the trackpad, because the "left-click" is so stiff. I did look at several models from different manufacturers, and I found most behave this way as well. For general selecting of things, I previously just lightly tapped my trackpad, or lightly double tapped, depending on the case. Works the same with this laptop, so not much of an issue for me, personally. If one needs to drag and drop something (ie any case you would need to hold down the left button), then yes, the trackpad's left button is a little annoyingly stiff. When I am at a desk, I much prefer a mouse. I also like the feel of the keyboard...keys don't clack and the surface of the keys is nice. Regarding performance, this has turned out to be a very nice upgrade for me. Boots up fairly quickly, comes out of sleep mode very quickly, programs launch well. I'm very pleased in this regard. The display is also very nice...plenty bright. screen glare is better than my previous laptop. The fan emits a low level "white" noise...again, much improved over my prior laptop, in which the fan would get very loud when the laptop was in good use, and moderately loud when sitting there. I would classify this new laptop's fan noise as very good, comparitively. I can't hear the hard drive over the fan. The only negative comment I have isin regards to the battery.....not that it is bad, it's just that with moderate use, the battery doesn't last anywhere near 5+ hours....3 hours tops is more like it (again, an improvement over my last laptop by about 1 hour). This seems to be a very common complaint with every laptop I've read about from all manufacturers (ie batteries don't last nearly a s long as advertised). I'd have to guess battery life is based on lowest power consumption mode, doing just about nothing.... I kinda suspected this when purchasing this laptop...didn't expect to actually achieve 5+ hours...but if I had to do it over again, I likely would have opted for the bigger, 9 cell battery.

This replaced a fairly old HP, so the change between the old laptop and new one is dramatic - the speed, screen, storage, fit and finish (love the aluminum...) are great for me. It's quiet and runs cooler than most. It's not hard to keep on my lap like the old one was. The fan does seem to cycle frequently, but it's quiet, too. Seems like a small thing, but the backlit keyboard was important to me, and this one's good. I write a lot, sometimes into the evening, and the light was perfect for seeing the keys when I needed to, without distracting with too high a level (there may be a way to increase/decrease the backlight, but I haven't looked because I haven't needed to). Like another reviewer, I've looked for backlit keyboards and found very few, so this was a nice surprise. I have the same reaction to the touch pad - I don't like the buttons fully integrated into the pad. While it allows cursor movement using the whole pad, I've grown accustomed to keeping a finger on a real button while I use the pad. You really can't do that with this touchpad - the finger on the button (which is only lined out, not separated from the pad) results in jagged movement of the cursor as the pad tries to read each contact. So you get a jumpy mouse cursor. The button also does have surprising resistance and a hard click. On a single pad, it feels a little like I'm gonna snap the corner off it when I press till it clicks. I've reset the pad to make it easier to select with taps, and that's helped. And I'm working on getting used to just leaving a finger off the pad if I'm using buttons. All that said, It think it's a great laptop, at a solid price - about the most competitive price I've seen for these features.

I have only been using this laptop for about 6 hours now, but working in IT and spending well over 8 hours a day on computers, I can say that this is a good, solid laptop at a reasonable price. The positives that I've noticed since moving from my Dell M1330 today....this machine does not heat up like the Dell, and that includes the power supply. I've heard similar complaints from my IT co-workers with their Dell laptops. I feel much safer about that and don't worry that the power supply on this laptop will go out on me like it did on the Dell. The screen size and the weight of the laptop are at a very good balance. It's not overly heavy and bulky, but the screen is large enough to view videos and pictures with comfort. I LOVE the backlit keyboard. That was one of my main requirements when looking for a new laptop and it seems like they are still hard to find. I do quite a bit of personal computing at the end of the day, and the backlight is great! I no longer have to have a light on, disturbing my husband, while I work on the laptop at night :) So far, there is only one problem I have with this laptop - the touchpad. I agree with another reviewer, that it is very sensitive. You definitely have to use one finger and keep the other ones away from the pad. I'm sure there is a setting to adjust the sensitivity. I just haven't gone looking for it yet. But more on the touchpad. It is integrated with the left and right mouse buttons. So, you have to push pretty hard on either button to make things happen. I will get used to pressing hard on them eventually, but if you are a gamer, I suppose, it may slow you down a bit until you are used to it.

The mouse / touchpad is very sensitive. Needs much improvement. Would have expected a better touchpad for the price of this system!
