For the price, its okay

This laptop works great for gaming like battlefield 3 and others. The keyboard is cheaply made. I had to send the laptop back because i closed the lid a little too hard and the hard drive broke! This is a good laptop but you have to really baby it. Hp could of atleast put a 7200rpm hard drive in instead of a 5200rpm that is slower than the stone ages.

Really like this laptop

Bought this as a replacement for an old Dell desktop and it is nearly everything I'd hoped it would be. Setup was easy. It is fast, but not quite as fast at multitasking as I think it should be - and I'm not a gamer... I love the biometric logon - makes switching users a breeze! Only two disappointments so far: (A) It's network card does NOT communicate with my dual-band wireless router on the 5 GHz band. It only supports the 2.4 GHz band. Big miss. Really. (B) Keyboard: it feels/sounds cheap, and there is no visual or physical separation of the numeric keypad from the qwerty section, which requires me to look down a lot to find important keys like the delete key. Other than that - it's a dream!

outstanding performance and style

The hard drive is the slowest component, but overall this baby flies - great price. Love it!

great but one issue

cannot read bootable flash drives. i tried installing ubuntu using a live usb and it doesn't recognize the drive in bootup. maybe there's something wrong with the bios or something.

Too too much for so little

I am now on the second laptop after the first one shipped to me you had to force the dvd drive open with the tip of a pen because you couldn't do it with your finger. When the display is on a black screen you can see the logo shine through from the front of the laptops lid back in through to the screen. I guess HP should have insulated the lids pretty (lit) logo from inside so it wouldn't shine through for the customer to see it on the screen. If this replacement doesn't work out I am off to speak with an Acer or Asus rep to buy a laptop, certainly not HP.

Quality

I am very happy with the purchase of the laptop, I like the solid feel of it, and the speed of the i-7 is awesome! I do feel that there is too much bloatware on it, but that can all be uninstalled. The graphics are outstanding and the screen is very bright as well.

Over all a good experience

Ordering the laptop was fairly easy because I did some homework and kinda knew what I was looking for. As far as the computer itself, the setup was fairly easy to use. I already had internet access and a printer so no extra steps needed. I like the brushed aluminum finish and it's slim feel. I also like that it has an Intel i7 processor. I have not yet use all the features this laptop came with so I can't comment on those yet. I've experienced a few HP's in my life time and have used Windows on all my machines so if one is proficient with Windows then HP's One Touch software seems to an additional layer that's not needed. (May be useful for the new user.) Other than that so far so good.

Overall buying and performance not 5*s

The good-Fast i7 .computer, nice preloaded games made kids very happy, intuitive software out of the box, nice modern feel. The bad-CDmechanism drive faulty out the box, customer service communication very uncomfortable I wanted an entertainment computer for my son who has been using an older Macbook but didn't want to spend $1700+.to get gaming level of computer or even $1200-1500 for Alienware or Asus I actually bought a HP AMD Quad-core with a discrete video initially and wanted to see them both side by side and let him decide. First experience downloading the updates for the free Norton security took 2 minutes on the i7 and 22 minutes on the Amd Quad. Downloading Minecraft however both computers took about 30 seconds or less. Must have been some issue with Norton. I7 just a lot faster and the 6770 video card gave the games more pop...so he chooses the i7. I am sending it back however because I see this CD drive problem breaking in the future. Return support very helpful but we had a bad connection on two different calls but they tried very hard to make us happy. Suggested a different model in his color of choice and gave discount cause it was 50.00 more. Next to Macs we like HP stuff so far. Will update if needed later.

Excellent for gaming

The 1 GB gaming gfx card can handle just about any game, including battlefield 3. This is the best for mobile gaming, hands down. Truthfully, the only two downsides I have with this are the aluminum and leaving it alone and turning it on in the morning. The aluminum next to the trackpad is super-cold. The other downside is that the screen is a little too small if you plan to get this just for the graphics card. I'd recommend getting a 23" VGA screen to attach to the laptop if you want true gaming at home.

Should have done this sooner!

I don't know why I held out this long before making this purchase. I reasoned out that my hardware needs were modest and that I wouldn't benefit from the 2nd Gen I7...wrong! Everything that I do now just seems faster, from surfing the web, facebook, work, newsclips, streaming video, etc. everything just seems so effortless and fast. I have more quality time now to spend with my family since everything PC related thing I do now is over in such a short amount of time. I even explored gaming again, but don't worry, no quality family time has been hurt in the pursuit of this new adventure. HP created a good balance of hardware and cost and came up with an awesome product at a cost that is still cheaper than a plane ticket nowadays. I just wished they had more color options for their quick ship products as I wanted to really give my wife a new laptop with the Sonoma Red color. Other than that, can't wait to get one for myself!

JUNK

HP products have to much bloatware, the laptop it self is over rated and the operating system is a joke, just put on only what it takes to run the system and give me a option if I want all the xtras then give me the options to install. A 5400 rpm harddrive is to slow.7200 rpm would be better suited for I7 processor or ssd.the laptop is capable of much better performance its a shame to limit the I7 processor to a lame harddrive..the xtra disk partitions are also a joke give me the disk space back and how about a operating system disk to recover with !! Performance and Reliability are what I want, and when the warranty is up a new operating system and a SSD and it will work the way it is suppose to...

Christmas Present

The first laptop that was sent to me had a faulty battery hinge so I had to RMA. I was pleased to see that the same day the laptop was shipping to HP the new one was due to arrive the next day. The only thing that I wasn't pleased about was knowing that for 6.00 more I could have got 8GB of memory and a blu ray reader through free upgrades.

Best PC I Have Ever Owned

I normally buy a Dell, but I decided to go with this computer and to tell you the truth, it's one of the best out there. It is very fast and it has all the bells and whistles that I need or want. Definitely recommend this product.
