Questions & Answers

John C : what toner cartridge does this printer use?DEBORAH C : CE285ADANIEL B : It uses a CE285A. HP brand is about $45 and re-manufactured ones for about $30. In terms of capacity, it is around 1000 pages which is slightly less than traditional toner capacity. On the other hand if you factor the cost per page it's comparable. DanHAROLD F : I wish I could tell you. I use this only occasionaly and I have not yet had to even think about it. I did however, b;uy an H P because they are not so expensive to operate. It doesn't print as well as a bigger one, but you get what you pay for and I am happy with this model. Gene F.GLEB V : Hi John, to be honest, i have no idea. the printer i bought came with the cartridge. it is not its normal cartridge - if i am not mistaken, it has smaller capacity and lasts for 900 pages of text , size 81/2x11. i have not run out of it yet. its normal cartridge lasts longer - 1600 pages ( i am not sure). but both of these numbers, may be not quite accurate, are large numbers especially for for personal use printer. again, it is great printer for purposes it was designed. price is excellent too. good luck, Gleb
Sam H : how many copies can you get from the lazer cartridge?HAROLD F : I don't know how many copies how many copies can be printed from one cartridge. I haven't used mine long enough to know, but of course it all depends on the quality of print that is used, economy or best..
connie k : Did it last?LISA T : Yes, still printing.TOM C : Yes. It works great. Very reliable.GLEB V : i bought it in august/september. i use it at home. so far so good. it is a great printer for 8 1/2x11" BW text printing!

good till HP smart app killed the quality

used this printer for years, then the HP smart app now kills the processes with "half to use only HP toner" thing that is a nightmare to workaround. in the processes of getting a differant printer with a better management service. HP smart print is bad.

Reliable workhorse.

I have had it for nearly 2 years and it worked very fine. Nice communication with my 2 PC's over a network. The only problem I have, which developed about 3 weeks ago is that if I print one through 4-5 pages it works fine, but if it is a large document then it starts to lose sychronization and gets paper jams frequently. I have not been able to locate the problem and I didn't find any suggestions on HP support. I'll greatly appreciate some help.

This is the WORST printer I've ever had!

The title sums up my opinion of this printer. I've had it over a year and I've had nothing but trouble with it. I've never had difficulties setting up a printer but this one I had to call HP Support. Still had problems. The wireless is set up and functioning but the printer simply decides what it wants to print and what it doesn't want to print and it doesn't matter if you're trying to print something from Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. And often after it's had a "meltdown" it will wait an hour or so and print what it refused to print earlier. After my initial problems I downloaded the HP Support Assistant to help with further problems. For the last 6 months HP Support Assistant says I have a problem with a printer but it doesn't even recognize this printer as being connected to my network. In short, this printer is a hot mess.

Exceptional printer

This exceptional printer was a bit of a challenge to install with wireless connection, but HP provided free 800 number telephone support without issue. The printer is efficient and fast. I would buy this printer again, in an instant. I highly recommend this printer and this supplier. Adorama shipped quickly and efficiently, never a negative issue with this supplier. Pleasant experience!

Attention Mac Users: Doesn't Work!

Contrary to what the specs say, this printer will NOT work wirelessly with a Mac! So misleading. In fact, after two weeks, the wireless functionality just disappeared and broke all together. Don't buy it!

Best Little Printer EVER!

I absolutely love this printer. It was working great with my wireless laptop. Then, our router was switched out by our internet service provider. Now, I can't find ANY way to connect (even by USB). I've been to HP Support, User Forums, MS for Windows 10....still no success. I am so frustrated!!! I want to be able to use this awesome little printer!!

Printer is great for quick black and whit printing

Printer does what I needed it to do, however the supplied software would not install. When I got to the point of connecting the USB cable Windows installed it's drive and the H-P driver would not install, it kept waiting for me to plug in the USB cable so I gave up.Printer still works but has on minor problem, when the printer is in sleep/power save mode and I send a page for printing the printer does not wake up, I have to reach over and hit the power switch so the page will print.

Reliable printer (once installed)

Installation was a nightmare. None of the HP supplied utilities recognized it. Windows 10 would not install the CD as it was missing standard validation signatures. It took several HOURS to download a utllity from HP that would install the correct device drivers and I have a FIOS connection. I got the distinct impression that the entire installation process is a mess caused by not writing a properly updated version for the operating systems. Finally when I finally got my OS (Windows 10 pro) to recognize the printer it seems to be solidly installed. However, if I shutdown Windows for a reboot - for example if my virus checker wants to remove suspicious cookies etc, the printer drivers crash with error popups all over the place. Fortunately the reboot seems to manage to reinstall the printer correctly.

Not Mac-friendly for wireless setup

Couldn't set up wirelessly with Mac; finally did with Windows (needed HP Chat support). Frustrating, time-consuming but eventually successful. Terrible documentation online and in print. Good text printing, so-so non-text printing. Fast. Works with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows now that it is set up. Has withstood power outages. Two-sided printing: after printing first page, insert page into top paper tray (already printed side down, top of page in first), lift cartridge lid and close it to initiate printing of second page. Crazy but it works (an undocumented feature!) Good luck!

Works with my MacBook Pro and Verizon hotspot.

My Verizon hotspot on my Droid Maxx phone connects 8 devices wirelessly, including my MacBook Pro (2009) and the P1102w. Has always worked flawlessly, quickly, quietly. I have everything I expected in a wireless printer. Also, my ipad prints to it without a hitch.

Frustrating.

It gets really frustrating when it takes you 45 minutes to print out an essay that took you about 20 minutes to write. I try everything that comes to mind, and it simply does not print out. It honestly seems like the printer has a mind of its own, printing whenever it wants to, because I cannot seem to figure out what I did right when it finally does print. At times I've tried to print out a document from multiple laptops, and it still wouldn't work. So obviously it isn't my laptop that's the problem. When it prints, it prints well! No doubt about it! However the time it takes...? Frustrating. Simply frustrating.

Awesome Rock Solid Printer

I have had many HP ink jet printers with all the bells and whistles. I specifically choose this printer for its single function and single color option, Black and White. This printer is easy to setup on a wifi network and use with mobile devices. I love the small footprint of the printer. You can tuck this baby away and print, print print. No problems AT ALL.

MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK

I have owned this printer for 2 years - and just replaced the toner cartridge for the first time TODAY. Previously I had owned one HP's expensive photo printers with a number of color cartridges that needed replacing frequently - it's so nice to only have to buy toner/ink once every year or two (depending on how much you print). If you are on the fence you really should get this compact laser work horse - it prints over 15 ppm

Awesome little printer!!!!!!!!

I was looking for a small, affordable laser HP printer and decided to purchase the HP Laser Pro1102w printer. I have an Apple Max laptop and do not have a CD inserter but as soon as I plugged the usb cable to my laptop and plugged the electrical cord, it asked me if I wanted to add the new software. I says yes and in less than a minute I was ready! The print quality is amazing!!!!! I love this little printer with so much power! It's also wireless!!!

Reliable B/W Workhorse

I have now owned 3 printers from this line of HP LaserJet Pro 1000 line and every single one of them has proven to be extremely reliable and durable. I would absolutely recommend the latest model to anyone looking to purchase a no-nonsense printer that will last. The LaserJet Pro 1000 line may not have all of the bells and whistles that are currently available on the market, but to be honest, that is a feature as nothing ever seems to break. The P1102w's ability to connect wirelessly has been really helpful in a house with multiple devices and we've even been able to print from the iPad. I regularly print double sided without issue. Additionally, the LaserJet is extremely portable so it's very easy to bring along to events, etc. I have been amazed by the payout of the investment. When buying a printer, my #1 concern is the cost over time given ink replacements. Most color printers I have owned have required frequent ink replacement for ridiculous costs. With this black and white printer, I rarely have to replace the toner (once every year or two depending on my usage). When I first got rid of my color printer, I was skeptical about whether the B/W LaserJet would sustain me, but I have been surprised at how easily I've been able to locate a color printer on the rare occasion I need one. If it were not for two long distance moves, I know I would still be using my original LaserJet 1022n I purchased in 2005! (In fact, I think my mother might still be using it now). Our second printer (LaserJet P1102w) died because we plugged it into a European 220v outlet without a transformer when we moved to Germany so just be careful if you take it overseas. You actually can buy a 220v version instead when you are in Europe for those considering the transition. The Hp Laserjet Pro P1102w is a staple to any household and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a durable B/W printer!

Great printer for home or small office

I have purchased and used several of this model as well as the previous USB only model. Once connected to a network the printer works well in a shared environment. First copy is quick. It's easy to print envelopes. Although manual, duplex printing is not difficult. I highly recommend this printer for B&W printing.

We had trouble setting up our printer, but our son set it up for us. I love being able to print from anywhere in the house. I even print from my IPad using the wireless printer. Good value and good price! I definitely recommend this printer.

Can't get it to work

I have used HP printers exclusively for 20+ years, and I am stumped! This is a simple machine. Hooked it up properly and all indications are that it is functioning the way it should, BUT IT WON'T PRINT! I had a techie review the whole process and set it up again, and IT STILL DOESN'T WORK?

Great Printer

By aap1

Just purchased this printer. It took me about 10 minutes to get it up and running, most of that time was spent unpacking it. The driver download from the printer is a nice touch. The print quality is great and it is very fast. I installed the driver on three different machines, two Vista 64 bit and one XP 32 bit, the driver worked first time on all computers. A nice thing that can be done is to enter the IP address into the browser and then install the driver directly over the LAN. Truly a ve...
