RICHARD B : is there a connection for a pc hookup or do I need a WIFI router?CLAUDIA M : There is a usb port connection for direct pc hookup; you don't necessarily need the WIFI router, but it is an added bonus if you happen to be working on a laptop in another room!R. W : Both, You can do either orSIDNEY H : You can connect to PC by usb cable or wifi router. I would caution you, however, that my printer has been nothing but problems from day one. It appears that HP released an "e-wireless" printer while knowing that the "e" part had major problems. Google the printer name and "stops printing" or "printer error" and you will see the message boards. I work with HPs tech support for months and many many hours on the phone only to realize that their "line tech support" had no clue. They replaced my printer twice and the new one had the same problem of malfunctioning with small print jobs that included images. Finally, two weeks ago I called to talk to upper management and learned that an update patch has finally fixed the problem (although this was the FIRST time they admitted that they knew of a problem). I uploaded the patch and finally the problem is fixed. However, today I just realized a problem with faint lines on some of my print outs. I will be calling HP again tomorrow. I think its a good printer but it was released too early before that had the bugs worked out. I know you didn't ask for all of this but I thought you should know. SidneyMARTIN A : it has an RJ-45 jack (a network cable) from ur PC to the printer. it has WI-FI too, but if you have a network cable attached to the printer, it auto disables the wireless feature. Can't have both connected at the same time. Awesome printer. worth the price. also a fax, scanner. go to HP and read more about it.WILLIAM S : You can choose either pc to pc or network (eithernet)TED A : 1 USB 2.0; 1 Ethernet; 1 PictBridge; 1 Wireless 802.11b/g/n; 2 RJ-11 modem ports; memory card slots
Shopper : Are all of your products new?CYNTHIA C. W : I would strongly recommend using Adorama for your purchase. We purchased this item last month and it came packed and sealed as if purchased directly from HP. We have used it daily, with no issues whatsoever. We purchased the same product approximately one year ago from our local Office Max and paid $ plus tax, plus ink cartridges. There is no difference in the units other than this product is the updated version. Hope this helps with your decision.ROBERT D : My wife had an HP 8500 that she loved but it was taken out by lightning. Our insurance agent told us about this site. We replaced her 8500 with the 8500A, brand new in the box at 1/2 the MSRP. My wife was estatic over the deal. She loves the device.DENNIS P : YesSHARON D : The 8500A was purchased new, yes.
Shopper : do you have a store where you can see printers?

Great printer!

This printer was great! Very small issues. I would buy It again if it was available to buy. It was the best printer I had so far that was multifunctional. It had all functions I needed and more. I had mine for over 6 years before I had a printhead and ADF issue in which I had to buy a new printer. I loved it!

Worked first time and everytime out of the box

Use this printer primary for a home based business. Print about 2000 pages/month and it has never missed a beat. Only thing I don't care for is the the tray/shelf that catches the paper after printing, Sometimes it can be a pain for others to get reseated propewrly if you haven't done it before. If you print a lot and don't like adding paper every couple of days to a printer, the extra paper feed is nice. Also if you use the printer as a fax machine, you really don't have to worry that the fax machine will run out of paper while you''re gone (assuming you remember to fill both trays).

Wonderful printer

I have had the printer for a year and must say that I wouldn't have anything else. I have a small business and it meets my needs in every possible way. The wireless printing is fantastic. The following features are fantastic in my view: double tray, touch screen (and it's functions), envelope printing, faxing abilities, legal copying/faxing surface, printing speed, ease of clearing a paper jam (should it occur), ink and printer quality, ease of changing printer cartridges, color and eye appeal in my office, scanning functions (especially to save on computer), and HP name and reputation. I would purchase another if I was in the market to do so. Hit em straight!!!

Unusual performance

We have this 8500 Office jet in our office and it works well with all of our computers (Windows 7 ). This printer is on a wireless network environment and has performed well. We purchased one for our home. This printer was not on a wireless network environment. The second one loaded fine on one computer with the software already loaded and we plugged it in and it loaded the drivers with no problems. The other computer (that has the same OS) would not load the printer, nor the drivers nor the software. We tried loading it 7 times, even the HP driver and software from tech support would not load. I worked with the HP tech support for over an hour. It just would not load onto the computer. ( All of the computers that our original 8500 are loaded on, are HP DV7's). They called back a second time and tried again, and it still would not work on one computer and said it was a software issue. We returned the second 8500 to HP without any problems. Our review is mixed, as the original one works so well with all of the computers, even the tempermental one. The second one worked well, but the interface between the tempermental computer and the printer would not work. Customer service was very helpful.

Worst Purchase Ever

Well, I am waiting for my third replacement now. So far neither printer has worked properly. It needs to be said that when I call HP, they run a test and offer replacement (after spending 1.5 Hrs on the phone) - i.e. refurbished printer only. Then you get it and after installation you just keep praying that it will work. Not in my case. They simply do not work right. I would have bought a different brand by now but have spare cartridges that I want to use. Do not buy this one for sure. HP cannot get it done right seems to me. It is the last HP printer in my life. In the meantime I will be calling HP till they supply printer that will be working as it is supposed to work.

Excellent Printer

I have been using the printer for a week now and am very satisfied. I use it with my PC and with my iPad2 and it works beautifully. The printer takes about 30 minutes to set up. Once set up, I have no complaints.

Since 1993 I have purchased HP printers and they just keep getting better! Touch screen takes a little getting used to, but is fantastic, quiet and dependable!

Good print quality but has other issues

Never had a printer that had to work so hard to print. This machine takes several seconds before it actually makes the copy, and in the meantime, it certainly makes a lot of noise, like it is having to work very hard to print. I've had cheaper printers that made the first print quicker and with less noise. Also, the selling point for me on this particular printer was that it came with a second paper tray. I was happy to read that and intended to use the second tray for envelopes so I don't have to take the copy paper out of the tray and load it with envelopes, and then put the paper back in. But I was disappointed to see that the second paper tray did not adjust narrow enough to accommodate an envelope. Then I figured I would keep envelopes in tray 1 and set tray 2 as my default with paper. Even though I set it that way in the print settings, the second paper tray does not work. I've gone online and read about this from other dissatisfied customers, who have written that the second paper tray is nothing more than a paper "storage" tray. That is really sad and needs to be addressed by HP. I am pleased with the output of the print, but not pleased with the mechanics of the machine itself.

Overall very happy with product. Printing envelopes is a pain, luckily I got second paper tray so you can use one just for envelopes. Like everything else these days, instruction manual is extremely vague. Very happy with shipping speed & price.

Excellent Printer Choice

I am a grad student and also do accounting work out of my home. I purchased the Officejet Pro 8500A Premium to use for both of these applications plus personal printing. While researching printers I read a few negative reviews of this model and am now so glad I chose to ignore them. This has been a great printer. It has handled a very heavy print load with only a couple of paper jams and no other problems. The text and images are always clear and sharp. Those negative reviews I mentioned tended to be about having difficulty loading the paper tray. I have not had any difficulty in adding paper to my printer. Also, I like being able to just open a small access door to change the print cartridges, unlike my HP 6500 which I have to lift the whole top up to change cartridges.

Good Value!

We love the quality of the print over previous ink-jet models owned and used. One disappointment however: The fax function will not work with digital/internet-based telephone systems ... this is not discussed in promotional materials available preceding purchase.

Better than the rating shown

I read the reviews before I purchased the printer over two weeks ago. It took me two days to decide because of the wireless issues and some comments on the fax speed plus the 3.5 rating. I must say that I did not experience any of the issues others mentioned. I gave a 5.0 rating because the printer was easy to set up and functioned much better than I thought. If you have a wireless router, you need the SSID code (or Wireless Network Key) from the back or side of your converter which is the security code that allows the printer to communicate with the router. If someone brings their laptop in and wants to connect to your internet, you need to provide them a pass key which is the same number you enter for the printer. I am not a computer wizz but I found the wireless connection fairly easy. Just take your time and make sure you choose the correct hook up you have (DSL, Broadband, etc.). Once I entered my network key, the printer and router connected quickly. The fax feature was better than I thought and the speed was not an issue as some claimed. I found the processing speed much faster than my HP 6500 and quieter. Having the second tray is great. Just note it DOES NOT attach to the printer. If you go to lift or move the printer, make sure to grab from the bottom tray, otherwise you lift the printer off the second tray. I tested the second tray and after the printer attempts 3 times to find paper in the first tray it then goes to the second tray. Print speed is good and better than my 6500 Office Jet printer. I really love the touch pad, it makes it much easier to adjust settings and use other features. When the printer sits idol for awhile, the screen goes to sleep. When I hit print on my laptop, the printer wakes up and responds quickly. So far after two weeks of use I am extremely pleased with the functionality and performance of the 8500A premium Printer.

best upgrade ever

i was going to purchase the low end version of this model from a large national electronics retailer for about 60% of the price i paid for this one, but decided to check out hp online store & got so much more including a 4.3" screen instead of 2.4", a platform with extra paper tray & extra ink cartridges for 60% of the original purchase price. A VERY GREAT DEAL!!!!!

Like it

This is my 10th or so HP all-in-one printer. I have a home office, and I wear out the HP printer in about a year or so. So far I am really enjoying the features on this one--much better than last year's printer (same series, different model). It doesn't clean its printheads after EVERY use, so it is not down a lot like the last one was. The copies and printed material are very clear and speedy.

great printer so far

I just purchased the 8500A-A910G to replace an HP L7680 all in one. My old machine worked fine, but had paper feeding problems from day one. This unit , once I figured where to install the printer heads, was a snap to install. I was worried about the wireless network connection, as well as the eprint feature. Not to worry, it pretty much installed itself and was running after the initial setup and head alignment. My only gripe is that HP, just like everyone else, continues to pander to Apple. It includes Air print for printing from Apple hardware, but nothing for Android. My wife is not happy that her Moto Zoom tablet cannot print a recipe by just hitting print . So I am still looking for an android app that will simply allow you to hit print at home in the network without a bunch of steps.

So far its great!

I'm not sure what all these bad reviews are about. I've owned this printer for about two months now and think it's great. I've had no problems with it including NONE of the dreaded paper jams that so many complain about. I've printed around 500 sheets so far, mostly using two sided printing. In terms of ink cost, it is the most economical cartridge printer on the market with a spec of 2200 pages on the XL cartridge (1000 pages on the standard cartridge). Speed and ink cots are equal to many laser printers. The ony reason I rated it 4 stars OVERALL (instead of 5) is I think the documentation for initially setting the printer up could be improved. I had to call tech support 2-3 times during set up to resolve basic questions that should have been answered in the documentation and was not.

Awesome Printer

When I started back to school I wanted to find a great wireless printer that was easy to set up and had a low ink cost. The initial cost was not a huge concern because the major expense with printers is their ink cartridge replacement cost; however, the initial purchase price for this printer was very reasonable. Setting up was a breeze, I had no issues at all connecting it to my home network. All 4 computers (an HP, Dell, older custom PC, and a Mac powerbook) on my home network have no issues printing at all. The interface is easy to use and the low ink cost has been a huge savings to me since I print out all my text book readings from online. When printing photos the crispness and vibrant colors are awesome. Two minor issues with the printer. First, it sometimes ghost jams when I print more then 100 duplex pages but simply opening the print cartridge door, closing it, and pressing 'ok' it starts right back printing where it left off. Second, it took 9 months for the second quirk to show itself and that is if one of the color cartridges it out it will not print until it is replaced even if you are only printing in grayscale or black & white. All in all, this is a great printer one of the best I have ever purchased.

Not a good choice

I rarely write reviews. But I do read them and they often influence my decision, so I hope people find this helpful. I’ve been (and remain) a long time HP fan. All of my printers and calculators have been HPs. I decided to buy this printer to replace my HP Color LaserJet 2605 because the print cost was less and I wanted the scanner function. I bought the Pro version. Well, since the first print, I’ve been unhappy with this printer. First, the overall print quality is not very good. Especially when it comes to horizontal lines misprints, the printer often leaves off a row of pixels across the entire page. Very ugly. It does this for images and text. I’ve gone thru all the help to fix this issue and it remains. Next, it has not standard single-feed paper slot with envelope guides. This makes no sense. I quite often print an envelope or a set of labels. Every other print I’ve owned had this feature, why did they leave it off here. So, that brings me to my next negative, the paper tray itself. It’s not a tray, it’s more a cover. But a cover that likes to remain in place. There is nothing easy about this setup. While you can lift the cover to add paper, it’s not easy to add a lot, and forget about removing the paper. The second paper tray is a tray and works better, but it’s hard to seat back in correctly. Also, the paper just flies of the printer unless you have the catch set, which then sticks out and look very ugly. I’m sad I bought this printer. I still like HP. But from now on, I’m going to be much more careful about what products I buy from them. I should have returned it right after the first bad print. Oh, and I’m very glad I kept my LaserJet 2605, even if the cartridges are expensive.

Replacement of 8500 Premium

I had an Officejet Pro 8500 Premium A909n that was about 15 months old. It started skipping raster lines or overprinting raster lined several times per page output. No alignment or replacement of printheads had any effect on the quality. This printer the 8500A A910n only has one or two very small lines similar to the older printer. Other features seem to work well.

I LOVE THIS!!

All of the not-so-favorable reviews on here almost scared me away from buying this machine but I just couldn't resist trying it because it has everything I wanted and needed. This is by far the best printer ever! I am so excited about it! It was easy to set up, easy for everyone in the house to use. I love having the two trays so you can keep plain paper in the lower tray and envelopes, checks, photo paper, etc. in the upper tray. It helps you conserve paper, too, by easily printing on both sides of the paper when you choose to. Copies come out perfect. It's easy to reduce/enlarge my original. Scans come out perfect. It's easy to name and save the scan in the format of my choice. I have not set up the fax but it looks as simple as everything else. And then there are the extras, like being able to e-mail directly to the printer and having games or a recipe file right on the screen! Cool. I don't understand why people have had a difficult time with set up, switching between trays or anything else that has been brought up. All of the instructions are simple - even if you have a paper jam - it tells you how to fix it. The only negative thing I can possibly say about it is that it takes a while to boot up but that's understandable given how much this machine does. I have gotten into the habit of just leaving it on and it will go to sleep after a few minutes. It wakes up immediately when you need it. I feel so lucky to have this printer/scanner/copier/fax in my life!

Good purchase, one odd flaw

We use this in an office of two. People come in and out all the time faxing, scanning, copying besides us. (I think it's ridiculous to expect this model of printer to function in a large office, but perfect for small) Ever so often it will start blinking and will say that it needs to be turned off. I hit the power button, it turns off and then "checks its printer heads" for about ten minutes and is ready to go again. I don't know what the issue is with that, but it seems to be its' only odd flaw.
