I purchased this an an upgrade for additional features to be able to print from my phone or table. The plus benefit was being able to have an additional paper tray. The down fall is that I am not able to assign these trays as to how I want them. I would love to put either color paper or checks in the top tray and have the bottom as everyday printing. Also, this printer disconnects from my computer on the wireless side. Overall, great printer.

Other manufacturers software is so much easier to use, next time I will forgo a good machine for easier to use software. Customer support really poor to reach. To difficult to get through. Would not need customer support if the software was better.

I am amazed at the quality of the printing - especially color documents and pictures.

I was very excited by the qualities on paper, especially it is supposed to be the cheapest cost per black page on the market: which was the main reason to buy it. It is really disapointing. and the printer is emptying good new HP cartridges by cleaning head without reasons: destroying the printer and the cartridge. not recommended. i'm considering moving away from HP after 20year of use.

This is the worst HP I have ever had. It bent paper while printing and had to be replaced. It would not pull from the second tray. All in all a real disappointment. It took over 3 hours to originally get it installed and I guess that should have been a sign. I read the reviews and ignored them-never again. The copy and scan features worked well but bent paper can not be tolerated.

I have several HP printers and expected that this one, like the others, would work well out of the box. It did not. The printer could not recognize photo paper and transmitted that letter size paper was loaded, even though fields were set correctly on the preferences/options pages in the driver menu. So, neither Airprint nor HP e-print worked properly. The printer could not recognize and load from Tray 2, even though the driver showed tray 2 as installed. I wasted hours trying to get this to work properly. I should have checked the support community here before buying this, as many people have had the same problems. Updated printer firmware did not help.

The 8630 is a wonderful printer. Best and easiest scan to email you could ask for, along with its other great features. Excellent mileage from the XL ink carts. You can't go wrong with this full function unit.

This product is horrible. Do not waste your time with. It has a mind of this own. It prints when it feels like it- I spend so much time trying to make it print. The scanner no longer scans using the feeder. Disappointed.

Great features and print quality. Mostly. Unable to use the printer when low on a color without having to interact with a warning that is trying to get me to buy more ink. But the real problem is how much ink it goes through. We rarely print in color. It would be a maximum of one line of text every few days. Yet it runs out of color ink within a couple months, and surprise, they all run out at the same time. Once I put in a new one, suddenly they all need to be changed. Another major issue is once you have caved in and replaced them, you get incessant pop-ups giving you "rewards" which are merely the opportunity to buy more products. I seriously HATE this printer.

HP batted a Grand Slam with this all-in-one Officejet printer. Price is really good if we take into account that it comes with an additional tray and an additional set of standard cartridges, plus the useful OCR software. Automatic double sided print and copy, color fax, versatile and responsive big 4.3" touchscreen display. This printer is fast, though it is not a Photosmart printer, the quality of pictures are really good by using the proper paper. All my printers has always been HP due to its quality but also the excellent support HP gives to their customers. I come from my great HP Photosmart 3310 still perfectly working. Even so, I bought the Officejet Pro 8630 because of its modern new features. Definitively a great choice! I highly recommend to buy this printer.

This is the best all-in-one printer on the market as of today. 1st) It is ergonomically sound – The entire work area is accessible from the front. Which means that the area required for its foot print doesn’t have to any bigger than the size of the unit or the cabinet you’re setting it on. Unlike other type units that have side trays or them very silly back trays. 2nd) It prints flawlessly every time, and in every setting; great color matching; great picture printing. Although the ink is fast drying, I find it better to allow ink to dry 24 to 48 hours to completely cure to a complete smudge proof print. I even ran it under the faucet to see how it held up. While it did great after 48 hours it’s not something you’d want to do to a print you want; sort of dulls the color. 3rd) All the other features worked flawlessly well, also; paper feed; double sided feature; display; etc. 4th) Display is easy to use and read once you get used to it. 5th) The software program is awesome; easy to use; and is a joy. Some reason my disc didn’t load so well, but the one from HP’s web site was a snap. HP you make me feel like you took heed to the complaints and suggestions I presented to your corporate CEO a few years back; your ALL-IN-ONE is a dynamo I am proud to own and recommend; high five to your team members. Continually strive for excellence. Auto Paper type and tray selection is still an issue to be improved on, but a lot better than before. As a work around I just make sure to slightly pull back the tray I don’t want to use, so system doesn’t automatically go there when I run out of paper. Of course that really doesn’t work when receiving letter and legal size Faxes and no one is around to make sure it’s pulling from the right tray.

Purchased the printer to print photos of our Grand-kids, professional quality pictures, highly recommend the printer. The features are easy to use, scan to email and to computer without a problem. The only thing we haven't used is the fax.

I bought an HP printer a few years ago and it worked great until it randomly broke when I was trying to print a document. I got this printer instead because I had a good Experience with the other one. It looked like it had good features and it had great reviews. The printer works about %5 of the time and when it does work it takes half an hour just to print one page. The scan doesn't work. It says it has sent it to me but then I receive no email with the file. The copier has terrible quality and turns the document 10 times blurrier than the original. It always says there is no ink and paper right after I load ink and paper into it. Then it refuses to print because there is no ink and paper. Also it always randomly cancels prints in the middle of the printing. Overall I hate this printer and I will never buy from HP again.

I have been using HP products for many years and found them to be a solid platform for all the features I'm looking for in a all-in-one. This model set it self up all I had to was plug it in and follow the prompts that it showed me on the display. I use it on my home network and now everything I have connected can use it. I would also recommend the Instant-ink program to go with it. It, by far, is worth every penny I paid for it.

I purchased this in April and waited until now to review so I could give, in my opinion, a more accurate review. I have used HP printers for over 15 years and every time I try a different brand, I wind up returning them and going back to HP for one reason or another. I absolutely loved my 8600 series from a few years ago but it was hit by lightning and had to replace it so purchased another in the series, I believe an 8610. I replaced my 8610 with the 8630 for only one reason, to get the extra tray as I do a LOT of envelopes, NOT because I was unhappy with the printer in any other way. With the 8610, I had to remove the paper, load the envelopes, remove the envelopes and reload the paper. Very time consuming and irritating to say the least, not user friendly like my previous version in this respect. The printing is clear, clean and crisp. The scan and copy modes are great. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is due to that extra tray. I have preset tray 2 (plain paper tray) as the default tray and this works great when printing, but not when copying. When you copy, you still have to choose settings - tray - select tray 2 - go back and then print. Sounds like a minor thing but if you forget, out pops an envelope since when copying for some reason, the default is tray 1. I tried to set tray 2 up for the envelopes and tray 1 for the paper but this is not an option. A minor irritation but would be a nice software fix if HP could make the default tray the true default tray. Bottom line, great printer, highly recommend for durability, scanning and print quality.

After 1 printer with print head problems, then the next with printer carriage problems, I finally got a printer that prints. The scan works fine and I haven't tried fax yet. but back to the printing aspect. The quality of the printing is great. It just takes too long to print a document. It took 15 minutes to print 25 pages of a one-sided document with a color image on it. luckily I was able to repair my OfficeJet 8600 (which HP sold me this on to replace) that prints like a charm.

THEY HAVEN'T! I have now bought one for home and have recommended it to others. If it were to break down tomorrow, I'd go out and buy another. While I can sympathize with those justifiably resentful of the HP ink issue, I suppose I have not had an opportunity to experience it, as my black and color apparently run out at about the same time.

I bought a 8630 and set it up (HP very helpful). Within two days the printer would work sometimes then fail to produce decent copy. After about 4 1/2 hours with their company techs. they decided that the print head needed to be replaced. Since it was only 3 days old Office Depot replaced it without any problems. Took the second unit home and set it up. Sometimes the paper would come out crinkled on the bottom left corner and the unit completely failed to use paper from the lower (largest) paper drawer. HP decided to replace that printer with another at no cost but I am seriously looking for a more reliable printer. It seems to me that HP tried to put too many features into this printer so it seems very cheaply constructed.

My old printer finally died in late February. It was a workhorse and printed many reams of paper over almost 10 years. I did extensive research again for the replacement as I was worried somewhat as there was nothing out there that had really high marks. I went with this one since I wanted the two trays, wireless printing from all devices, good speed and of course two-sided printing. I had some issues setting up one of our computers (iMAC) and called HP support. They were good, fast and explained what I need to do - and actually did it. So I have had it over 3 months and have had no complaints - hopefully this printer will last almost 10 years like the last one. Quality of print is better, speed is better and I can print from my iPhone, iPad. I am impressed and that is not easily accomplished. Anything less then excellent would be unfair to how well the 8630 has been working. Oh and I thought who needs an all in one but I have used the scanner too and I love being able to scan directly to a flashdrive in seconds and put my old HP scanner in the closet.

So far this has been a great printer. Love having the second tray added to it to have one full ream of paper stored inside. The larger touch screen displays the needed icons and is very easy to read. Wireless setup was a snap on my home network, much easier than I thought. Very easy to use with the setup guide as I was able to sit at my laptop and complete everything without even touching the printer. Color quality on this has been great so far but I haven't printed pictures on anything glossy so I can't vouch for that just yet.

Prints great but will Not print on transparencies. As a Fax/scanner it also fails. The unit will transmit the scans fine, but the auto feed function is worthless. after about 5 to 7 pages it will pull 2 to 4 pages at once and jam. at which point you have to start all over and what has already been scanned is lost. Not recommended if you want anything more than a printer or need to print on anything except paper.

HP printers used to be the best available. Now they are mediocre, at best. This one doesn't print Quicken checks easily, loses communication w/ my desktop frequently, (it's located very close to the router and there is a strong signal), and the other features are difficult to manage. HP customer service is still prompt, easy to understand and very good, but they could not solve a couple of my issues, even after elevating them to a higher level.
