good monitor

I had a HP 22" at home, and a HP 25" at work, and was/am very happy with both. The 25" has a small label/sticker on it, so I know what some people are talking about (although it is too small to bother me on the 25"), but the 27" did not have any stickers at all. Shrug Decided to upgrade my home monitor, and decided to go for the 27". That was probably a mistake, I should have gotten the 25". Not critizing the 27", but my eyes are getting old and I have eye problems in general. So far, I haven't been able to adjust the 27" to suit me. It is definetly BRIGHT at factory defaults. For watching movies, or graphics in general, it is just great. But web pages, with all that white space, way too bright. Again, maybe I'll hit on the right settings after additional tinkering. On HP monitors in general, I love the glossy reflective type screen. But, if you don't, then think again about HP monitors. As far as speakers, I have never cared about quality of speakers, so speakers in the monitor has always been just fine with me. However, all three of the HP monitors I have/had, the volume level is just barely not quite enough. The 25" was the best of the 3 as far as volume goes, btw. In addition to my eyes, my hearing is getting bad also, so thats a factor, but the speakers definetly just don't have enough volume. As an aside, why are some settings available only if using VGA?

The brightest monitor ever

I bought this monitor form HP.com and even though it says the free shipping takes 5-7 business days, I got it in 2 days. I read that the plastic tape covering the frame of the monitor is leaving an adhesive residue on the monitor but that was not the case with me, it pealed right off with no residue traces left so maybe HP had fixed that problem or maybe I was just lucky with mine. The monitor is super bright, I got it as an upgrade from my 22" Asus and it is significantly brighter and has more vivid color display and contrast. I use it strictly for gaming and it has been preforming perfectly so far, it starts up very quickly (unlike other brands that take a few seconds to start making accessing the setup menu when you start your pc tricky). it comes with the power cord and both the VGA and DVI cables which is nice considering my Asus only came with the DVI and no power cable. but on the other had, No HDMI cable, but so far I havent seen any brand that has HDMI cable with their product. overall I couldn't be happier with my purchase (got it on sale for $319 and I used a $30 off coupon so I ended up paying $308 after taxes). same price as some of the off brand monitors for that size but much better quality.

wow

I just received my HP2710m. What a lovely product!! I simply cannot understand all the negative stuff about tinge etc. - come on folks, this is unbelievably good. Regarding glare - it is true that the monitor has a glossy finish and so tends to pick up glare from behind the user. But this is very nominal, and doesn't bother me much - and I am very picky about glare (I gave up using my laptop because of it). I also bought a S2031a some time ago, and the difference in quality (only on "no-glare" quality) is 100% for 2031a and 99% for 2710. Will I go back to S2031a because of the glare issue? No way! Although I don't understand why HP didn't use the same S2031a technology on the 2710m ...

As close to perfect as you can get

Amazing display, I bought it on good faith of other HP monitors and really wasn't 100% sure what I was getting until I plugged it in and saw it. From the box to desk this monitor is almost perfect. The only thing even remotely negative that I can say (and I kind of hate to mention it) are the speakers - most people who invest in a 27" monitor aren't really looking for a set of anemic speakers attached to it but I guess they're handy if you're in a bind. *IMPORTANT: the sticker issue that people had mentioned in previous posts has been resolved. The only thing I had to remove from the monitor was static cling packaging and an instruction sheet.

best money spent

word of wisdom! don't use the product GOOF OFF remover to get glue off after removing the sticker it will take the color out and turns it white! this monitor is awesome and worth every penny! bought it at sam's club and didn't realize how big it was going to look in my home after seeing it in wide open sam's!when friends come over they think i'm watching a tv!you can't go wrong with this monitor!

Colors Aren't as Good as the HP 2509m

I had both the HP 2710m and the 2509m and the colors were so much better on the 2509m. Compared to that, the 2710m looked like it had a bluish film to it and couldn't be adjusted to be nearly as good as the 2509 m. So it all depends on whether you want a bigger monitor size are better colors.

Hands down better than the competition!!

I am absolutely pleased with my purchase of this HP 2710m monitor. I bought this particular model because of these reasons... Solid high quality build construction, low response time, and clarity. This is my very first HP monitor, and I have to I am seriously impressed with the quality of this monitor. Its rare to find a company that gets everything right! Bravo HP on an excellent monitor. Pros: HP customer service ***** Black levels Brilliant Clarity Deep Saturated Colors Cons:Has a bit of an overscan problem when the overdrive option is set to "On" .

REALLY AWESOME PURCHASE

I looked for a large monitor for the several months. After hours of research and price comparisons on the internet and in retail stores, I selected this 27" monitor from HP.com. I connected it to my HP p6710f Desktop with no problems in about five minutes. The sticker problem in other reviews is not a problem as the monitor came without any sticker. The stand was no problem in adjusting it as previously mentioned. On start up, the screen brightness is intense but easily adjusted by clicking the Menu Button and making the adjustment that you feel is appropriate for your personal viewing. As for the sound, it is just fine, if you are not an audiofile or a fanatic gamer. I have run a number internet movies on railroads and toy trains and the sounds are good and very realistic. Actually the sounds are better than the sounds coming from my external Sony speaker set that I had on my previous PC. Only caution I have is this monitor is huge and you need about 24 inches between you and it for good ergonomics. If space is a problem for you, you might want to consider the HP 25" or 23" monitors. Unfortunately, there is no mounting holes on the back of the unit for wall mounitng. It would be a good feature for HP to provide in the future. In summary, if you are looking for an awesome high quality 27" monitor at the best price and fast free shipping, I highly recommend the HP2710M and buying it from HP.com.

O M G !

Just because I could buy and install an HP 27" HD monitor doesn't necessarily mean that I should have! LOL All kidding aside, this monster is overwhelming. I knew I was moving up (BIG TIME) from my 22" monitor, but I had no idea what the final destination would look like. I'm still taking it all in, but right now I'm stunned with its performance and features. And, like others who have written, toning down the brightness level is a must right off the bat. Other than that, it's "Come Fly With Me" time!

great monitor

great price for a 27 in monitor. I got it from HP with EPP discount, came out to 311 including tax. Overall, picture quality is great. the only a few minor gripes/suggestions - The sound from the speakers is pretty shabby (this is kind of expected though) - Displayport would have been nice - The stickers at the top are very difficult to remove. But, I found a good way to remove the residue....microfiber cloth and zippo lighter fluid....trust me it works, and it wont damage the plastic bezel. Just make sure you don't get the fluid on the screen itself, cus it might remove the coating. - the reflection on the monitor is not as bad as some other glossy screens, but you can still see yourself in it when the background is dark. Best thing to do ti to turn off the lights.no more reflections and even better image!!!. I understand why HP uses these glossy coatings, and I commend them for not taking it too far :)

Very Nice Monitor

I purchased this monitor about 3 weeks ago and I love it. I purchased it based on other customer reviews. I was a little skeptical at first because some of the reviews included some minor issues that I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with, but the price was just too good to pass up. I am a multi-tasker so this monitor is perfect for my needs. I often need to view two documents at the same time and have my calculator or web browser visible. I also like to browse the web and watch TV or listen to music at the same time. Also this monitor is great for playing PC games. The monitor does require some tweaking, so be patient. I am still performing a few tweaks here and there. No matter how you hook it up (HDMI, DVI, VGA) you get a beautiful display. For those of you who complained about how difficult it was to remove the HP sticker that was on your monitor when it arrived, I want you to know that HP heard your cries. After reading your suggestions on how to remove the sticker, I was prepared to deal with this issue. When I removed the monitor from the box, the first thing I did was look for the sticker, to my surprise there was no sticker. Thank you HP! As for the built in speakers, you were right, they are not that great. This was a minor issue for me because I have always used external speakers and will continue to do so. HP really could do better in this area. I wanted to give this monitor 5 stars, but I did have a major issue that kept me from giving it that extra star. My VGA cable was defective and it was replaced with a VGA cable that did not fit the PC or the monitor. I purchased my own VGA cable and everthing works just fine.

Best Price to performance/ratio period

Don't even bother shopping around for a better price. HP direct is cheaper then Newegg and any other store. I bought this monitor to replace my dell 2407w ultrasharp when it crapped out after 4 years of heavy use. Of course the dell 2407 Ultrasharp out performed this monitor but I am very happy with this at nearly half the cost. Pros: -Fixed sticky residue from packing tape on the edges( In a lot of earlier reviews) -Cost -Performance is just incredible for the price - Shipped to my door in less then 48 hours after placing order (Free Shipping option used) Cons: (Im picky): -Slight backlight bleed around edges - Minor tearing effect during high FPS graphic intense gaming(can be almost eliminated with adjusting video settings) - does not support 1900x1200 resolution This monitor is perfect for 99% of users. Picky gamers or Photographers with extra money to blow go with the dell Ultrasharp series. Stay away from apple monitors because they have no DVI or HDMI inputs. New HP customer for life.

Like looking thru rose colored glasses

I would not recommend this monitor for office or photography use, but I did like it for video games where color reproduction is not that important. When displaying a mostly-white image, parts of the screen that aren't viewed straight on are a pinkish color, an issue common to TN LCD panels. The pink effect occurs even at 10-degrees off center, and it's hard to look at every pixel straight on with such a large monitor. I turned down the Red from 255 down to about 215 which made the off-center areas a little more tolerable grey vs pink. When displaying a mostly-black image, the screen has a mirror-like glare. It's a bit distracting to see myself in the screen, but I guess the good part is that people can't sneak up behind you without you seeing their reflection in the monitor. The sharpness adjustment only has 5 levels, but it should be set somewhere between 3 & 4. When using the analog VGA input, the automatic clock/phase adjustment did not eliminate ghosting (caused by electrical signal reflections) or motion artifacts on greyscale images. I don't know if this is an issue with my HP laptop video output or with this monitor. The stand height is a bit low and can't be raised or rotated. The sticker on the top of the monitor is a bit difficult to remove, but I managed to do it without using a razor blade which would have scratched the plastic. I would also have preferred a 16x10 aspect ratio.

Excellent Monitor

The HP 2710m is a great monitor It is a huge monitor in the good sense. Just what I wanted. Very easy to install. Terrific HD picture allowing you to pick up tiny details Supports HDMI, and it is beautiful. The monitor speakers are not so great since they are installed at the back of the monitor. Not a problem for me because I have a separate powerful speaker system. But if you don't have a similar one, you will not get a great sound. Well I don't want to be unfair, anyway monitors are not meant to provide a high fidelity sound experience. Removing the HP sticker along the top of the monitor is an annoying experience. I used a hair drier as recommended by some other reviewer and heated the leading edge in order to peel it off slowly. But there is still some glue residue on the bezel. I wonder if HP staff will solve this problem ever since there are three reviews already and the problem persists. This something that can be solved easily by HP and that could give great customer satisfaction. Other than this little cosmetic (non-functional) problem the monitor is great. I love it big time

Great Monitor...but agree with others

Really nice monitor except I agree with others on "why the extra glue on the sticker?" I carefully pulled the sticker off but it still left glue on the bezel. I carefully used a little "goo gone" on it and then used LCD cleaner. After some time of VERY CAREFUL use of the products It finally came clean. Do NOT get the "goo gone" on the LCD screen itself. Like another reviewer, I gave 4 stars just because of the glue issue. Now days, with all the non-sticky labels there is absolutely no reason to use such a messy solution for a sticker. The good news is that once the sticker is off it is a great value and an awesome monitor.

Great display, don't rely on the speakers

I bought this LCD monitor as a television replacement because I live in a small apartment. The display itself is fantastic but the speakers are terrible, don't rely on them if you need sound. To put things into perspective a car driving by outside is enough to drown out the sound from the speakers or a small indoor fan. Whats worse is that if you use HDMI the unit has NO alternative way of outputting the audio signal with RCA or Optical so unless your device has the ability to output a separate audio signal for example PS3 you're out of luck. HP should consider upgrading the speakers to regular television speakers, I would have paid extra or even a way to output the sound from the LCD to powered speakers would have been nice.

Wonderful Purchase

Don't hesitate to buy this monitor, if you're in the market for one this size. I had no problem removing the large label on the monitor, so HP must have fixed that issue. I've made no adjustments to the monitor, the settings right out of the box are perfect for my liking. A great value for the money.

Good deal for the money

This is a good monitor for the money and anyone who wants to watch movies from the computer should consider it. There are much better monitors out there, but not anyone at this price. The Good: - Big! - Great design and easy set up - Very bright - Sleep function - Fast refresh rate The not-so-good: - Nasty sticker on the top of the high gloss bezel WILL NOT COME OFF easily. Took me an hour and I had to use goo gone and isopropyl alcohol to try to remove the glue and still not all came off. CAUTION. Rubbing hard with paper towels on the bezel will scratch it! This is crazy. I am completely at a loss why hp would do this and put a advertising sticker on a monitor that cannot be taken off. You will not be able to take it off without damaging the finish of the bezel and I would call hp before I'd order again and make them guarantee that there is no sticker on the monitor. - Colors are over the top and not realistic. It is tricky to find a realistic setting too. This is probably my biggest complaint. - Black rendering is not good and some sort of darkish gray. - The speaker output is insufficient to watch movies. Volume form some DVDs is so low you cannot increase volume enough to hear it. If you want to watch movies you MUST have additional external powered speakers. Again, it's less than optimal .... but for the price it's great!! You simply cannot get a 27 incher for around $300 in this performance and quality even considering the drawbacks.

3x 2710m Eyefinity

After I researched some and found out whats the best price for a decent 27inch monitor I found this one at Frys. I love the picture quality, of course with calibration. I now have 3 of these in eyefinity setup and its amazing, once you use this monitor you will never go smaller :). I like the new LED ones from HP, will like to see how big they go with those.

Its a great monitor and like all monitors do not get it for the internal speakers. I do wish there were a few more input options but otherwise this is a beautiful screen that allowes me to plug in my Xbox via HDMI and PC via DVI.

Very Happy

I was going to first get the 25-inch, but the rebate and my thoughts of keeping whatever monitor I buy for the next few years changed my mind. I think they fixed the front sticker problem. I slowly peeled them off at room temp with no issues. Yes, the speakers are poor quality, but I have a couple Bose speakers I'm using and love. The picture quality is fantastic. Setup was a snap. My 22-inch Samsung is great, but does not even come close to the 2710m. Very please I dropped a little extra money and got the the bigger display. Use the HDMI connection if you can. A very good choice for an upgrade or companion with a new PC.

Stunning but a bit limited on features

This monitor is absolutely stunning on a desk - elegant design, huge display and crisp resolution. Love it. Only gripes are: 1) HP puts a sticker across the the top that you have to remove. I ordered six of these monitors and it took me an hour at least to remove the stickers. Horrible setup experience easily solved with a less tacky glue 2) it is limited in features, ports, connectors, etc

What I Wanted - Best in Its Class!!!

I really shopped around to get this amazing HP 27" monitor! While price was somewhat a factor in my buying decision, it was this product's exceptional design and sleek features that swayed me to get this unit. I got this from HP Direct online because they offered the best price with various payment schemes. I had scoured quite a number of hours online reviewing the competition's models of the same size, features and prices as well as numerous trips to several retail stores (near & far) - studying how each one of them will look in our guest room. This monitor serves both as a TV (via streaming media) and gaming/computer screen (optimized with an SSD drive). In my opinion, 27 inch seems to be the ideal size and HP seemed to realized this need by coming out with this unit. 32" inch LCD TVs are just too big to serve as a PC/Mac monitor specially if you're using them for a few hours. Just absolutely perfect. Just take it out of the box, tilt the screen and put in on top of your choice desktop/media furniture! No messy pedestal with screws to deal with! The built-in speaker is a non-issue. I'm a believer that if you wanted really good sound, hence, use a separate powered speakers. I actually tried another manufacturer's 27" model that boast of a world's best, 1ms response time (had to return it though because of a dead pixel issue), but, it didn't come even close to the beauty of this HP monitor on top of my desktop. To name a few: The elegant blue power light that turns amber when not in use, the intuitive OSD menu, & perfect screen trim design! Turn it on and enjoy the vibrant colors as seen through the nice Brightview Display! Boy, this HP monitor look even better than our very expensive, big screen LED TV!! I have this monitor for only a month so only time will tell if HP's quality & reliability will deliver! So far, I really have to thank HP for making this really, really beautiful monitor to our guest room!!!!

Speakers on HP2710m

PROs- Love the idea of having a large monitor on my desktop. Can have several windows open for viewing and editing work easily. Love it. CONs- However, not excited about the built in speakers behind monitor. Sound is distorted and audio sounds like one is in tunnel or in a cave and echos. Wish HP had put some speakers holes in front. Now I need to buy speakers to listen better with while working.

What a gooey mess :(

I wish I had read about the heat gun - or any other solution to prevent leaving glue residue from the sticker placed along the top bezel before I tried VERY CAREFULLY to remove it. There seemed no way to prevent the residue primarily along the bottom part of the sticker. I still have glue residue that I have tried to remove using mild detergent. I am wary of using stronger solvents which may further mar the bezel. That is the only reason I withdrew a star.

Very very good monitor

It is really a great monitor for video and pictures. Video and pictures were bright and colors were accurate. There are very few monitors out there in 27inch screen size that supports 1920X1080. That means I can see the full HD with the whole screen. Also I don’t have to sit too close to the monitor to read the text on the screen. Other monitors in the market support higher resolutions and that causes characters to appear too small. I noticed a problem when it comes to display of text as I had seen ghost image on some characters like m, j, s etc., in red color. To be fair shadow went away with different font and/or operating system. So I am not sure if I am ready to blame the monitor yet. I called the customer service for the above problem they were good not necessarily excellent. Overall it is a great monitor and you will enjoy it.

Great monitor - hard to remove sticker

It sounds stupid to comment on removing the HP sticker along the top of the monitor - but it is VERY DIFFICULT and you can easily mar the nice finish if not done correctly. Get a hair drier and heat the leading edge and it will easily peel off with no residue if done slowly. It makes a HUGE difference. Otherwise the monitor is beautiful. Remember, a monitor this size at this resolution really should not be closer than 1.5 to 2 feet from your eye. Get a smaller screen if you want the monitor closer.

Best Monitor Ever

I bought this monitor for my wife, even though, she did't want one.I had bought the 2509 for me,due to I have a small area for a monitor, and the 2509 just fit,and the 27" would have been to big for my computer desk.My wife was useing a Viewsonic 22",but when she saw mind, she liked it.I new she wanted one,but she said she was happy with the 22".Well anyway I bought the 27" and set it up on her computer desk, while she was at work. When she saw it,she fell in love with it.Both monitors are the best we have ever owned,no dead pixels like the two Viewsonic's we still have, will keep them for spares, just in case we have any problems. The only problems with these monitors,is the stickers, they put on them, getting them off leaves a little mess, but otherwise, they run great. Thanks HP for another great product.

As others have mentioned, huge productivity enhancer. This is one of the best purchases I have made (or should I say 3 since I bought 3 of these). Don't think twice...excellent in every way and what a great price. The ambient light censor is also really sweet as it automatically adjust to the lighting in the room. Don't think twice, buy now!
