W : I want to shoot color portrait and scene's and mabey black and white ,,believe it or not a little old farmer full of years has asked to photograph him in with some of his favorite cow's ,,,I have just bought the Epson 3880 ,,,havnt set it up yet, I want the best ink and paper what should I choose for paper?RON L : "What paper should I choose?" That's like asking what brand of Cola do you prefer. It's a matter of artistic taste. Various papers do different things with your image. The same image printed on Hi-Gloss could look completely different when printed on rag matte. The one you choose depends on the aesthetic you want to achieve. As far as brand is concerned, that also varies just like in the film days you got different effects with Kodak v. Fuji v. Agfa, etc. Some brands are warmer whites and some have a bias towards cooler whites (yellow tone to bluish tones). It's up to your preference. To solve the dilemma of of choosing if you are just beginning, many of the manufacturers have "sample" packs at low cost which allows you to try them out. BTW, I seem to prefer Red River papers, but vary from that occasionally depending on a different effect that I might be going for. Also the Epson 3880 is excellent and you should ONLY get the Epsom ink cartridges specifically made for it. Anything else might clog up your machine and certainly won't give you true color resolution.LINDA G : I use Hahnemuhle Matte Photo Rag, 310 gsm 100 % Rag, Smooth, Extra Bright White Inkjet Paper, 17x22 , 25 Sheets with my 3880 and am pleased with the results. I print mostly nature photographs in color. Paper choice is very personal, though.
