Rugged & Fully Functional!
I just recently upgraded to this housing from the Canon housing for the same camera. I love the fact that this housing is so sturdy and can handle the bumps and bangs of diving with me. The camera is fully functional in this housing and works great. I'm totally sold on it!
Fully functional housing
I have bought both the Ikelite and the Canon housing for this camera. While the Canon housing is nice and compact, it's nowhere near as sturdy or rugged in it's construction. My underwater cameras take a beating sometimes in rough conditions, and this is the perfect housing to put up with some abuse and still work perfectly. It's weighted so that it's neutrally buoyant in the water, but a little heavy on land. Great housing though, I'd highly recommend it!
The Ikelite compact digital housing is molded of corrosion free, virtually indestructible clear polycarbonate. An unobstructed view of the main o-ring provides assurance that the case is sealed properly. Its heavy duty walls allow it to operate safely to 200ft (60m).
All functions of the camera are accessible through the housing. A flash diffuser is included to aid in improving lighting quality when the camera's built-in flash is used to illuminate subjects underwater.
An external port adapter is required for the use of accessory wide-angle and close-up lenses. Order the #9306.81 for use with 67mm threaded lenses such as the Ikelite W-20, Inon Type II, and Epoque lenses. Choose the #9306.80 adapter for use with Inon bayonet mount lenses.
Removable external color filters #6441.32 for tropical blue water and #6441.72 for green water settings provide color correction in sunny conditions up to approximately 80ft (24m). For use without a flash. Filters sold separately.
For optimum lighting underwater an optional external strobe (flash) is recommended. Ikelite strobes are brighter, recycle faster and offer wider coverage than the camera's flash. Being farther from the camera lens, the strobe aids in reducing the illumination of particles in the water which helps to eliminate backscatter.
Complete strobe systems are available for either automatic or manual exposure.
