Questions & Answers

L.A.F. W : Do you have the original viewfinder for the D-Lux 4? Please inform. Thanks, L.A.F. WhatelyTONY R : Yes, I have both viewfinders. The D-Lux 4 viewfinder does not zoom electronically like the D-Lux 5 viewfinder. The former is optical and latter is electronic and more useful. Hope this answers your question. Tony RDAVID M : Yes, I still have it. I never take it off the camera.ROBERT K : No, I only have the D-Lux 5 with the Leica EVF-1.
Shopper : Hi - Is this part compatible with my D-Lux4? Thank you.TONY R : Not compatible with the D-Lux 4 which has an optical viewfinder available instead. The attachments for both cameras are ideal for shooting in strong light when it is difficult to discriminate images on the LCD. The electronic viewfinder on the D-Lux 5 has the advantage of zooming in-sinc with the lens. Tony RROBERT K : I am not familiar with the D-Lux 4. Sorry, Bob KellyPAUL K : No, you would have to buy a D Lux 5.KENNETH B : No. The D-Lux 4 is not wired for an electronic viewfinder. Leica does make a viewfinder that can be used with the D-Lux 4, but it is not electronic. It is basically an optical 24mm viewfinder that slides into the hotshoe. Both these viewfinders are very high quality and easy to use but relatively expensive. Any optical viewfinder that will slide into the hotshoe, from Leica, Voightlander or other makers, can be used with the D-Lux 4 but it will not be coupled with the zoom feature on the D-Lux 4.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?TONY R : In sunlight this is a necessity and it adjusts the frame as you zoom. Much better than the fixed optic viewer for the prior D - Lux models.

Great to use but comes easy off

I fell in love right away in this rangefinder-style viewfinder, bc you can frame pictures without the screen and shoot on street like a pro. The only inconvenience is that unlike the flashes that mount in the hot shoe this view finder has no ball bearing or any way to fix it to the hot shoe and therefore slips easily from the hot shoe and I dropped it a couple of times (a design flaw?).

Reliable, but takes getting used to.

The viewfinder is a quality product and one which has been well thought out by Leica. Initially, I was a little disappointed that the time taken to attach the EVF was cumbersome in spontaneous situations. However, in spite of the compactness of the camera, Leica did an excellent job of utilizing the space available. Once familiarity with the camera and its accessories was accomplished, using the EVF became a delight and made the initial tradeoff worth while.

Leica EVF 1 Electronic Viewfinder for D

The biggest advantage of this viewfinder is that it zooms in and out and really shows you what the picture will look like. There are optical viewers that don't zoom. If you intend to use the camera outdoors, it is almost essential

The high-aperture, black, attachable viewfinder can be mounted on the flash shoe without utilizing any electrical power. As a result, the camera can be used with outstanding success even in extreme light situations.
