Questions & Answers

RHODA P : Can a badly scratched LCD be replaced? V-LUX 2JURGEN S : I recommend to contact a Leica dealer with this question. In principle, everything can be replaced/fixed - it's usually just a question of price!TERRY T : I'm sorry, but I don't know the answer to this question. If I were to guess, I'd say it probably could be replaced. This is a high end camera.
Shopper : I readhat when buying the v lux 4, it came with a copy of Lightroom 4 from Adobe. Does anyone know if this still true?ANDREW B : I did some internet exploring and found out that apparently you have to first register your Leica camera online then can get the free download. I have yet to do this for my newly purchased Leica V-LUX 4, but will try very soon.KLAUS S : IT WAS NOT PART OF MY PURCHASE !TERRY T : As I recall the Lightroom 4 from Adobe was included. There is a link with Abode in your purchase that gives you a code where you can download the program from Abode. In my case I was unable to do the Lightroom 4 because of my system, Microsoft XP. I had to download the previous version Lightroom 3. Now all I have to do is understand how to use it!ELEANOR H : I did not receive Lightroom.JAMES A : I do not know if the offer is still part of the package. I received Lightroom 5 with my purchase. You should contact Leica. I am sure they can tell you.MICHAEL G : I bought it in August and I did not get a copy of Lightroom 4. Sorry.MITCHELL T : I believe it should come with Lightroom 5.ILA R : No, my camera did not come with lightroom 4MORRIS S : I bought my Leica V-LUX 4 a while ago and I did not get Lightroom 4 (or any other photo processing software) with it. I suggest you get info from someone who has bought it recently. Whether you get processing software or not, the camera is awesome!!! Morry ShechetRICHARD H : I don't know about Lightroom 4 from Adobe. I did purchase the complete kit from Adorama but it did not include any lightroom kit. Hope this will help you.
FRANK D : In still photo mode, how many frames per second (burst rate) at highest quality setting will this camera do?STEPHEN M : If I understand your question then at the 12 MP setting(highest quality) it will shoot 12 FS up to 12 exposures OR 5.5 FS up to 100 exposures. That's according to the specs given. I tried it at various settings and I didn't see any difference in quality when I put them in the computer. I never did go to the maximum of 100 exposures at 5.5 FS but it sounded like an old fashion movie camera up to 15 or so exposures before I stopped shooting. Hope this helps. It should work well for action shots if you have plenty of light.JAMES A : I am not sure. I believe the data is in the manual which is on the disc supplied. I have done at least 3 frames per second. Have not attempted a faster rate.ELEANOR H : I have no idea...I have hardly used this camera.JOHN B : Sorry, but I don't use this camera in the burst mode This camera has been a disappointment to me and I've used Leica cameras for 50 years.

Great little camera

As I've gotten older, hauling around a heavy DSLR and multiple lenses has gotten to be a chore. This compact camera, with its 24X super zoom and constant F2.8 lens is ideal for much of my photography, macro to street. It's photos are sharp, bokeh is good when needed, ISO at 6400 is noise-free, although, with the F2.8 lens, I seldom need to go that high. I shoot in raw which gives me added flexibility in editing. The only drawback is that the electronic viewfinder is small and easily moved out of focus. The solution for me is to use the 3" articulated screen, which does decrease battery life (I bought an extra battery-no big deal). I had no problem with the instruction manual as I didn't need it. I found the use of this camera to be intuitive. Things are where I expect them to be.

Not bad so far

This is a very good all-around camera which you can use just about anywhere. The zoom feature is especially good, but you should use a tripod or solid surface, such as a picnic table.

The Camera is Great. The manual is horrid

I was a U.S. Navy photographer went thru all Navy Photo schools. This camera is great, I've taken some great pictures with it. I can usually read instructions and figure out my camera. The instructions written for this camera are so poor that I've even contacted the manufacturer in Germany for some answers. They referred me to the US Reps who have been very cooperative. I'm starting to get comfortable with this great piece of equipment.

This is a very good all-around camera which you can use just about anywhere. The zoom feature is especially good, but you should use a tripod or solid surface, such as a picnic table.

The Leica V-LUX 4 Digital Camera is an advanced point-and-shoot camera with a newly developed CMOS sensor and a fast 24x optical zoom lens with f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range. It brings to the table high resolution, fast and reliable performance and the quality guarantee of the Leica name.

First and foremost, the V-LUX 4 boasts a newly designed Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens with a 24x optical zoom which allows it to traverse the range of focal lengths from 25-600mm in the 35mm format. That huge range of focal lengths takes you from true wide angle to ultra telephoto and incorporates almost any type of shot you can imagine. More so, its fast aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom is equal to that of any professional grade interchangeable zoom lens. You can confidently shoot in low light and with long focal lengths knowing that faster shutter speeds will keep your images sharp. And the integrated optical image stabilizer will further reduce blur and the effects of camera shake on telephoto and low-light shots.

The autofocus of the Leica V-Lux 4 reacts to changes within the image frame in less than a tenth of a second and makes it possible to reliably capture fast-moving subjects, making it ideal for sport photography and for shooting continuous sequences.

A great lens like the Leica 25-600mm f/2.8 deserves a great sensor and the V-LUX 4 abides. A new 12.1MP CMOS sensor delivers exceptional image quality and fast autofocus. An increased ISO sensitivity range up to 6400 provides low-noise imagery in limited light and you can expect sharp details and saturated colors when shooting fast moving subjects in telephoto lengths.

High image quality is true of video as well as still photography and the V-LUX 4 shoots Full HD 1080 AVCHD video at up to 60 frames per second. Fast moving action, such as sporting events, is captured in crisp detail and the full range of 24x zoom is available while shooting. Also, a one-touch dedicated button can switch you from video to photo and back again in an instant. Added convenience comes in the form of MP4 video capture as an alternative to the higher quality AVCHD. Save your videos in MP4 and you're able to directly upload them to the internet without conversion. A built-in stereo microphone with wind filter allows for quality audio to match your video.

For image composition the V-LUX 4 provides two options, an integrated high resolution (1.3 million pixels) electronic view finder and a 3.0" LCD screen. The view finder offers 100% image view and ultra sharp details for fine focusing, it also displays all the menu settings and capture options. The LCD, which provides superb playback, can tilt and rotate for composing from low-angles, from overhead or in a manner more discreet than bringing the camera to your eye.

Fast performance is also part of the V-LUX 4 package. It starts up in less than one second and can autofocus in less than a tenth of a second. Its burst rate is as fast as 12 frames per second in full resolution when you need to capture that one perfect shot amidst a flurry of activity. And the V-LUX 4 saves its images in both JPG and RAW so that you have more options for creative control in post processing.
