William R : What????? No RAW format - only a series of Jpeg formats? One step forward, one step back. The question is: why?William R : Hi, Charles: Much thanks for taking the time to answer my question about whether on not the new Leica X2 shoots in RAW. When I checked the specs online, only Jpeg formats were listed, not RAW. It's a glaring omission which I hope Leica will soon correct. Speaking of Italy, I took my Leica M3 with me and used it during my 3+ years of living and working there (1967 to 1970). It got the job done, of course. I hope your son enjoyed Italy as much as I did. Thanks again for your response. Best wishes, Bill R.CHARLES K : The X2 shoots in RAW and in Jpeg, you get both for each shot. You can choose just jpeg, but RAW is like the M9. My son (in college) uses this camera and the results are nothing short of amazing. Toted it around Italy this summer and brought back stunning images. Highly recommended. Also, the electronic viewer is very useful and the Olympus version is very reasonably priced compared to Leica.PHILIP S : Hi- I bought this camera last year, and it does RAW, RAW+JPG and JPG. Great camera- its got limitations of course, but what it does well it does really, really well. Lens and cam both true blue German mfg, impressive contrast and sharpness from the lens. The IS feature is not ideal, so I don't use it. I shoot the cam in RAW mode only.

Good quality but not what I needed

I likes the case but I returned it for the leica half case. I wish the leather piece that opened up when you wanted to access the camera was not sewn in at the bottom. It makes taking a picture feel awkward.

Falling in Love with It

I went from awe to disapointment at first to loving it. The moment I openned the shipping box I was in awe at the unpackaging and then when I first laid eyes on the Leica x2. I loved the size, weight and how relatively easily I was able to set it up to take photo's right away. However my first images were disappointing and I wondered if I had made a big mistake getting it. I then began to 'read" the manual and to play with the settings, I then got down to the nitty gritty - realizing x2 wasn't just any camera but it was for a thinking photographer. The more I played and started putting it through some "tests' low light, taking nature photography, feeling how the auto focus, and then putting it into manual focus -- how the camera reacted I soon began falling in love with the camera. I've only had it for about 2 weeks now -- and I NO longer wonder if I made a mistake -- but rather I wonder where and what I can shoot with it. I look forward to going out and shooting with it to discover more about myself as a photographer and how x2 can help me realize what I want to conceptualize and capture using it. I keep falling in love with it more each day. It's not a camera for everyone - but if you want to grow as a photographer the Leica x2 is the camera to grow you up!!! For right now this early into know it I'm giving it a 4 stars -- but I have a feeling that soon it will become 5 stars!!

The Leica X2 is the second generation posh point-and-shoot from Leica. Featuringa 16MP APS-C CMOS sensor which Leica claims produces very low noise, high dynamic range and accurate color rendering, the Leica X2 is said to have a new autofocus system that the company claims is fast and silent. Leica has changed the touch and feel of the shutter release and dials, added leather trim, a latch trip for the pop-up flash, and an optional electronic viewfinder. (The X1 had an optical one). Other features include a 24mm f/2.8 ASPH lens (35mm equivalent: 35mm) and a 2.7-inch LCD monitor. The Leica X2 is bundled with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
