FP4 is perfect for resuming 4x5 photography and home processing after many years. Wide latitude is forgiving for exposures to test alternative film developing with coffee-based developer (Caffenol). Thanks to success with this, I ventured into unexplored territory with imitation vanilla developer which I call Vanillinol. This is cheap imitation vanilla flavoring, not the expensive extract. Again, FP4 produced beautiful negatives.

One of my favorite black and white films, very fine grain, not too contrasty but with enough contrast in good lighting conditions. Subtle tonality and usable for many subjects.

I would definitely recommend this product. I purchased this ISO 125 speed black and white film to load into my Nikon N6006 film camera. I wanted to see if film is better than digital, now that I know more about taking photographs. The photos came out great and I may now go back to film.

Ilford FP4+ in 120 format was a great choice on a sunny day in the winter. Very sharp with low grain.

This is my personal view, you can find all technical details easily. Film is made by Ilford and i don't have to say anything else. In my humble opinion, the best films available on market these days are made by Ilford. I use fp4+ in medium and large format from years. My only regret is that I can't photograph more.

FP4 is my go-to emulsions for everyday shooting. Shoots well at box speed. Nice balance of smooth grain, clear contrast, and sharpness.

Love this film for moody, character filled shots, when dynamic range of scene is mild to moderate.

FP4+ has become my go-to medium speed B&W film for portraits, especially in 120 roll film and 4x5, where the tones really shine. Its ability to render the transition zones between light and shadow has the smoothest gradients (to my eyes) of any film I've used. Great stuff!

Terrific film for contact or enlarging. Responsive to contraction or a bit of expansion in development. Consistent quality. I use with Pyrocat

First time with this film on a Minolta SRT201 w/ functional light meter. Blacks are really vivid and the grain is subtle even in harsh light situations within the foreground. I will soon do a portrait shoot with this film (indoors) with one light on the model.

Absolutely terrific film..for everything

I have been using FP4..in 35mm, 120 and 4x5 sheet film sizes for over twenty years now, developing in Acufine and have consistently been getting excellent results. Good tonality, sharpness and fine grain all the time. Afterall..my 20 years of loyalty to this marvelous film speaks for itself....!!!!
Exceptional Film
By callmeBe
This film is today's standard by which all B&W films are measured (in landscape photography). This film can be pushed 2 stops without adding appreciably to graininess, and processes well with many types of developers. (It will be your developer that limits it's ability to expand--rather than the film)! For pyro fans, this film is just about perfect--with slightly less stain than several other films on the market, but the ability to push much further (which more than makes up for that slight l...

ILFORD FP4 Plus is an exceptionally fine grain, medium speed, black and white film. It is ideal for high quality indoor and outdoor photography, particularly when giant enlargements are to be made. In addition to general photography, FP4 Plus is also suited to copying and internegative work and has many applications in scientific, technical and industrial photography. FP4 Plus is robust and will give usable results even if it is overexposed by as much as six stops or underexposed by two stops. It is compatible with all major processing systems, including those which give the standard short fixing and washing times.
FP4 Plus 35mm film is coated on 0.125mm/5-mil acetate base and is available in 24 or 36 exposure cassettes or in bulk lengths of 17 and 30.5 metres (56 and 100ft). FP4 Plus 35mm film is supplied in DX coded cassettes, suitable for all 35mm cameras. FP4 Plus sheet film is coated on 0. 180mm/7-mil polyester base with an anti-halation backing which clears during development. It is available in a wide range of standard sizes. The emulsion faces the user when sheet film is held in the position shown.
Exposure Rating
FP4 Plus has a speed rating of ISO 125/22deg. (125ASA, 22DIN, EI 125/22) to daylight. The ISO speed rating was measured using ILFORD ID-11 developer at 20deg.C/68deg.F with intermittent agitation in a spiral tank. Best results are obtained at EI 125/22, but good image quality will also be obtained at meter settings from EI 50/18 to EI 200/24. It should be noted that the exposure index (EI) range recommended for FP4 Plus is based on a practical evaluation of film speed and is not based on foot speed, as is the ISO standard.
Filter Factors
FP4 Plus film may be used with all types of filters (eg color, polarizing and neutral density filters) in the usual way. Follow the instructions given by the filter manufacturer. The exposure increase in daylight may vary with the angle of the sun and the time of day. In the late afternoon or the winter months, when daylight contains more red light, green and blue filters may need slightly more exposure than usual. Cameras with through-the-lens metering will usually adjust the exposure automatically when using filters. With some automatic exposure cameras, the correction given for deep red and orange filters can produce negatives under exposed by as much as 11/2 stops.
