Super fast transfer but sometimes it won't be recognized by my computer...I have to plug and unplug and jerk the cable for a while...

The reader has a solid feel to it and reads quickly. I have not had a transfer error yet. The deep path to plug into the reader is not like the cheap usb readers and the plug in is solid. My only negative remark is that it takes a lot of force to plug it into the reader and it must be plugged in "fully". If I had it to do over again, I'd buy it again. Its a great reader.

I use this to transfer RAW files. Without it I would grow old before the photo files would be on my computer. The firewire interface is the way to go.

I tried to hook it up to my Imac the interface was hard to get to work finally I got a light tried to put my card in... tok a while but it would not enter correctly at all, finally I reverted back to my USB reader and it worked fine. Next day I tried again to get it to work... no luck plain Garbage from this manufacturer. I am sorry I wasted my money.

I`ve gone thru 3 card readers in a year.why because they were poorly designed and kept bending the pins. This card reader has a long track that guides the card in perfectly.

First review ever of a product for me and this one was given away last night to a student after it corupted yet another card. As a working Pro, the thought of losing images is just too much and after 5 cards having to be retrieved with software, its just not a risk I am going to take. Losing a Bride's photos is just not worth the risk. Reader costs way too much to act like this. When the reader worked it was fine and pretty fast, but it chose when it wanted to work.

I have lost all the files on my card two different times. I opened the card then edited one of the files on my card and then proceeded to save as and then when I tried to open another file the card was empty. I thought my card had gone bad so I had it replaced and it done the same thing with the new card.

I have CF cards with speeds of 15, 30 & 60 MB/s. Sizes range from 4GB to 32GB. This reader transfers to my computer (Mac) in half the time or less than the USB reader I use when I'm not at my desk. My Lexar has worked now for about a year flawlessly. Inserting a card took a little getting used to, but now, I have no issues.

This reader made an hour-long process (using a USB card reader) take mere minutes... but only on my MacBook Pro with native FW800. I have two other laptops that use ExpressCards to get FW800 connectivity, and the card reader has never worked with them. I even bought separate power supplies for the cards, and have spent hours on chat with tech support, and no love. I really like this card reader; wish it played well with everyone, not just machines with FW800 built in.

I bought this unit before I got my UDMA card and it was plenty fast in displaying and downloading my pictures. When I purchased my UDMA card the difference was fairly significant. I shoot RAW files typically around 12MB per shot and this thing pulls them off the card really fast. I am totally satisfied in the investment in this card reader.

This product failed to recognize my cards. After three months of good service it just decided to stop recognizing some CF cards and not others with inconsistent behavior. I called Lexar tech support to try to resolve the issue. FAIL! Lexar tech support is horrible! Even if you have better luck with the product than I did, if you ever have to call tech support...good luck to you.

After pushing the eject button it is a little bit hard to get a grip on the card to remove it if you have fat fingers.

This reader is VERY fast, especially when used with the Lexar Pro 300x cards. I'm downloading 8gb with this faster than I can get 4gb of data from my older USB reader. I don't have any scientific numbers to use here, but it's fast. On the downside, it's pretty bulky, frankly ugly, and it doesn't seem especially well-made. The door that protects the port when it doesn't have a card in it looks cheap and there is a ton of resistance when putting the card in. You have to push very hard to get the card seated properly and it's very easy to think you've done it right only to have it not read the card - so you have to push harder. But you get used to it. The pro of the speed overcomes the con of the construction for me. It hasn't damaged my memory cards (to my knowledge), so it's OK. I'd give it fewer stars, but it's so darn fast and saves me a lot of time, so I just can't.

Design could be improved on to make it easyer to anchor in place. It is so light and small, it does not stay in one place.

I've been using this with sevreal 300x Lexar CF cards and the transfer speeds have been great, incredibly fast. I was previously transferring directly from my camera, needless to say this is a huge improvement.

This reader works exceptionally well and is very fast. Card recognition on the Mac is almost instant and the card contents are transferred at good rate of speed. This is definitely my preferred CF card reader. I highly recommend it.

Nice that it comes with both a short and long Firewire 800 cable. For travelling, I just bring the short one. Very fast. Nice for the bigger RAW files from my new camera. On the con side, the only problem I have is that it is considerably bulkier than the older Firewire 400 reader that it replaced. Basically twice as big all around. I wish this newer one was smaller.

Fabulous product. Sooooo much faster than my USB reader and takes the place of my card reader on my old Mac Powerbook G4. I am using it on a new MacBook Pro and connecting to the 800 firewire port....it screams....

This is a great product. even with the non udma cheap cards it read and transfered them about twice as fast as my usb 2 reader. and it is extremely fast with the lexar udma compact flash cards. about the only con i have found is that you have to hold the card reader and use a little force to get the card to go in alll the way and when you press the eject button the card just barely pops out far enough for you to pull it the rest of the way out. and so far it has worked flawlessly on mac pro via firewire 800

I use this card reader to download my 4K HD Video from RED ONE Camera on 8 Gig Lexar CF Cards. It does an amazing job of handling the information in a speedy fashion. It will download a full card in less than 3 minutes. Only drawback to reader is that the insertion of cards is a bit tentative. Not very positive seating.

Fastest way to get images from CF to PC
By Ian
For reading CF cards, this is the best reader I've used. It is extremely fast and multiple units stack very nicely right on top of one another. For those not familiar with Firewire 800 ports, they are NOT the same as a standard Firewire port. For most PC's, you'll need to add a Firewire 800 adapter card to uses this reader. However, if you use large capacity CF cards the speed difference with this reader is significant and definitely worth it.
