Fantastic film. Great resolution and grain. High contrast. And C-41 process. Perfect B+W film in my opinion.

XP-2 is an underrated black and white film that is a great value. It is sharp with good exposure latitude and can be processed in color or B&W chemicals. Either way it is excellent at an excellent price!

Ilford XP2 is a fabulous B&W film which can be processed like color film at your local processor, or in B&W chemicals at home or in the lab. Either was it looks great with sharpness and good latitude: blacks are black, whites are not blown out and there is plenty of shadow detail. The price is right, also!

Maybe because of the emulsion thickness, this works wonders with Epson flatbeds. It's easy to see the gain in sharpness compared to an HP5.

Shoots well at box speed and over, develops easy as any other color film.

Fine grain and nice shots. Was having initial trouble finding development times but it was all good in the end.

Easy and cheaper processing. And scans well since digital ice works with this film to cut down on dust issues.

This is a beautiful film - someone wrote it is a "days of summer"- film, and I couldn't agree more. It likes light but gives wonderfully sharp results without being overly hard - in good light I always get great results. Definitely recommended, you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful black and white film, sharp, contrasty without being overly so (compared to Delta), great film for sunny days. Very low grain even though it is ISO 400. Like most films, doesn’t handle underexposure too well, but apart from that, beautiful results. Definitely can’t go wrong with this film.

Because we have a local inexpensive lab that runs the right color chemistry for this film, and develops every day, I decided to experiment with XP2 in various vintage toy plastic cameras, and found that, with a goodly amount of exposure it could indeed sometimes exhibit some of the magical silvery qualities of standard BW film in these quirky cameras. (My darkroom needs a good cleaning before I'll be developing a traditional BW film there.) I used Vuescan to obtain digital files to adjust, and plan to make digital negs for later GSP's. This is affordable, easy, quick and fun.

Great quality film in pixels and in ease. It does not get rigid when loading. It works great with d76 Kodak developer. Best photos I've had in a while. Great to print on 16x20

Ilford makes a lot of high quality black and white silver negative films. I have and still do use them, however, for those who lack a home darkroom for developing will find fewer and fewer choices for commercial processing. This is where XP2 comes in. It will give you an actual black and white negative for scannng or printing, and cab be processed by any lab offering C41 processing for color negative film.

When we travel to Europe, I carry XP-2 & have it processed in-country. My advice for this film is to expose it @ EI 200 for sunny days; ISO 400 for overcast conditions and ask for normal processing. I carry processed negatives through security without the fear of x-rays ruining my unexposed film. When back home, I can scan negatives to be adjusted in P/Shop & uploaded to the 'net, or print negatives in my d/room. A versatile film. Good for people that may have a favorite film camera but want their work digitally post-processed & printed. It can be home developed using a C-41 kit, or can be commercially processed.

This is a great way to experience film, if you've never tried it before (and let's face it, there are a lot of those folks these days). It provides a fairly tight grain structure and good depth. I find it especially complementary in urban/street photography or in other situations involving subjects with lots of texture. Maybe not as useful if you like landscape with large expanses of sky, where the grain may intrude (although I'm heading out tomorrow to do just that). And when you're done, your local drug store can process it C-41 and probably scan it relatively cheaply too.

I used this film in my Kodak vest pocket. After a day of shooting I new this was the film for me. Its so forgiving. It seems to take the best photos no matter what. I wouyld recomend this to any black and white photographer as its avalable in 120 and 135. Great film.

I bought this film for shooting black and white photos with my Diana F+ camera. I like it because it is processed using C-41 chemistry. So it can be processed anywhere they process color negative film. I like the film's contrast, sharpness, latitude and tonality.

I am impressed with this film. I am shooting this with an EOS A2 and 24 - 105mm f/4L lens. I am using it for portrait work primarily at this time. I am getting the results I want. Also, being C41, if I run out of time, I can take it to the drup store for developing. By the way, the film expiration date on my film is Dec. 2013.

My favorite B&W film

This film requires some practice getting used to its grayscale. Not very flattering for portraits, but really cool for landscapes. Very emotional B&W film for still life and landscapes.
impressive dynamic range and convenience

This film is one of those products that make me keep my film cameras active. I used it as 120 roll film and as 35mm, e.g. outdoors, indoors, wedding, fine art studio photography. It is one of the most convenient and flexible b/w films I have used, and it delivers consistently high quality negatives. Its main advantage consists in its outstanding dynamic range that makes it possible to take pictures from 50 iso to 800 iso on the same roll of film, with the same development, getting for each p...

XP2 SUPER is a sharp, fast, fine grain black and white film. It can be used for any photographic subject, but ensures excellent results when there is a wide subject brightness range. XP2 SUPER has improved exposure latitude compared with XP2, and gives exceptionally sharp, crisp prints. The excellent highlights and improved shadows of XP2 SUPER give enhanced negative contrast for optimum black and white print quality. XP2 SUPER is easy to expose, and has extremely wide exposure latitude. XP2 SUPER is easy to process. It is a black and white film which is processed in C41 type processing chemicals alongside color negative films. XP2 SUPER is very easy to print. Negatives are printed on black and white paper in the same way as conventional black and white negatives.
XP2 SUPER is a chromogenic film. This means that the dyes which make up the image are formed during development rather than being present in the film or added later. The extremely wide exposure latitude of XP2 SUPER is the result of the unique relationship between exposure and grain in chromogenic films. The best balance of sharpness and grain is obtained when XP2 SUPER is exposed at EI 400/27. However, down-rated or overexposed XP2 SUPER negatives have finer grain, the opposite of that expected and obtained with conventional films. Up-rated or underexposed XP2 SUPER negatives have only a slight loss in quality. Furthermore, standard C41 processing is recommended for the whole of the exposure range.
XP2 SUPER 35mm film is coated on 0 . 125mm acetate base and is available in 24 or 36 exposure DX cassettes, or in bulk film lengths of 17 and 30 . 5 meters. XP2 SUPER 35mm film is supplied in DX Coded cassettes, suitable for all 35mm cameras. XP2 SUPER roll film is coated on 0 . 110mm clear acetate base with an anti-halation backing which clears during development. It is available in 120 lengths and is edge numbered 1 to 19. Following international standards, XP2 SUPER roll film has a red exposed label to signify color negative processing.
