KRISZTINA S : Hi, Can I use this card reader with my brand new mac book pro 15 inch as I only have USB and Fw800 connections?KRISZTINA S : Thank You all for the helpful comments! I did purchase it and compare to my 4 year old Mac Book Pro and Lexar FireWire combo even without the USB3 connection the speed is an amazing 4 minutes vs 2 hours previously. Wow!WILLIAM G : My PC only has a USB 2.0 port (at the present time) and it works fine so it should work with your Mac however it won't transfer data as fast as it would if you had a newer USB 3.0 port.MARY L : That sounds like a manufacturer's question. I have a PC and we love it , it is so much faster. It should work in the usb port.ROBERT R : Yes it works great on any Mac system with a USB port. I use mine on a MacBoot Air and a Mac Pro. I really like that the reader's slots are deep as this helps with aligning the pins on CF cards. The only down side is that you can't share the cable with older USB devices as the end of the cable that plugs into the reader is the new USB 3 type.CHARLES D : Yes, you will be able to use the Lexar reader using the USB connection on your Mac Book.HARLAN H : Yes- But Apple will not support USB 3 so it will work but only at Usb2 speed still a good move as you are future proofing yourself for the day Apple adds Usb3LOUIS O : I am not familiar with Mac and don't know if they are using USB 3.0 yet. If your Mac supports USB 3.0, buy it, because you will be impressed with the tranfer rates compared to USB 2.0. If not, it's only advantage in speed would be if you used UDMA cards.KENNETH T. L : I don't use a Mac but I see no reason that it cannot be used. I really like the Lexar USB 3. It is very fast and I can download large files onto my Dell XPS 9100 without hooking up camera equipment to it. I think it works excellent. Make sure you have a USB 3 for faster downloads over a USB 2. Also, give Lexar a call as they can certainly answer your question Best Regards KenAMBER B : Yes. The USB 3 connection is backwards compatible to USB 2. As long as you have a USB port on your Macbook, you should be good to go, just at slower speeds than if you were using Firewire or USB 3 ports. I have found the speed to be a bit faster than a traditional USB 2 transfer, however, which is nice.JEREMY S : You can but it won't be as fast because the MacBook pro only has USB 2. You are better off getting a FireWire 800 card reader if you want speed.KEVIN K : Yes you can. It works very well, is fast and is good quality. However, I don't believe you will benefit from the speed unless you have a USB 3.0 connector and I don't know if the MacBook Pro has one. You might want to check into that before you buy this card reader. It is backward compatible to USB 2.0 but if your mac only has a USB 2.0 jack then Lexar also makes the same card reader but that is only USB 2.0 compatible but is quite a bit cheaper. You may be able to save yourself a few dollars.ADRIENNE S : Yes, it still works in a regular USB outlet. I have a 13-in mac book pro and it works with that. A USB 3.0 connection will just give you the highest output speeds (I use the USB 3.0 port on my desktop and can tell it's a bit faster when transferring images). But it works fine and is pretty fast with a regular USB outlet on a mac book. Hope this helps!KEVIN H : That is exactly what it is meant for and it works great. I plug it into my imac USB and it takes very little time to upload all my pics. I recommend it!CRAIG M : I don't have a Mac but I have successfully used this on computers with USB 2.0 and others with USB 3.0
Shopper : I have purchased another brand in the past and after a couple of uses the pins bent and that was the end of it. The fit was much tighter than the fit of the card in the camera. Any feedback on whether you've had this problem?PETER P : Funny you should mention bent pins. I had the USB 2.0 version of this card reader for years and loved it. A couple of months ago two of the pins got bent and it went in the trash. This new USB 3.0 version is physically identical but so much faster. No trouble yet and the insertion of the card is smooth without that excess tightness you're talking about. I suspect the bent pin problem might be more an issue with the CF card itself.ROBYN N : Hi! Although I haven't had this card reader for very long, I'm very happy with it and it's worked just great. I love it and have not had any issues with my CF cards fitting into it. I haven't tried other sized cards, but overall I'm glad I purchased it.AARON J : I have only used the Lexar Card Reader twice, but no issues so far. Everything has worked very well. I am very pleased with my purchase.GREG F : I know what you mean - I've had to throw away a couple CF readers for the same reason. The fit on this one looks solid to me.JONATHAN G : Actually, I did need to return the first unit I purchased because it stopped working--but not due to bent pins. I suspect it was a mechanical failure on the USB 3.0 connector on the back of the unit which was no match for the forces being applied to it by the USB 3.0 cord and plug. The good news is, however, Lexar customer service was very friendly and prompt. They replaced the failed unit quickly after I mailed it back to them. The replacement unit works great--as did the first one before it failed. I've had no problems with the replacement unit after several months.SANTA G : I used the Lexar USB 2.0 Dual Slot Reader before this one for several years with no problem. I have had the USB 3.0 for a few months with no problems.STEPHEN L : I haven't had any problems with the Lexar- the card fit is snug- just like it would be in the camera. This is true for both slots. I also like the fact that it closes keeping the dust out.HOWARD M : I bought the Lexar USB 3.0 Dual Slot Memery Card Reader at the end of September this year just before a 2 week vacation to take advantage of the faster download speeds. I downloaded compact flash cards for two shooters each day and have had no issues with bent pins. I previously owned the Lexar USB 2.0 card reader for several years and it performed flawlessly.KEN F : No problem at all with this thing getting bent pens. We have had that very problem with Compact Flash to Express Card adapters we've used, but not with this Lexar Reader.JAMES W : Seems to work fine with my CF cards.ROBERT B : So far, I've used it a couple of months and it's work fine. And I don't expect to have any problems with it. The reason I bought it was that it loads photos very quickly. Highly recommended.JEANINE C : I have not had any problem with his unit. I bought this product about 6 months ago. The fit is snug, but I have not had any pins bent. I like the Lexar because it is fast and reliable. I believe Lexar guarantees their productGLYNN M : I love my lexar card reader so much that I bought a second one for my other computer. The pins have pulled out of my built in CF card reader in my computer. I bought the Lexar and the cards go in with a positive feeling that they are going in right. I recommend this product. I would buy it again.GLENRICK K : I too have had pin problems with other brands. I have had this one for almost 3 months and so far I have no regrets. I also love the speed.KENNETH E : No...I can't say that I have. I only use SanDisk CF cards.WILLIAM B : I love this reader. No problemsBRUCE M : No problems here, I've used both slots at least a dozen times each. The fit is just a bit tighter than my Nikon D90 or Nikon D2Xs. Hope this helps.
Kelly B : Will it read Sandisk Memory Stick Pro Duo??VANCE M : Sorry, have only used it with Lexar CF and SD cardsTIMOTHY E : No, only SD and Compact Flash (CF) cards can be read. Memory Stick is a Sony product that is not supported by this card reader.KEN F : Sorry, it only has two slots and it will only read the two mainstream generic (non-proprietary) memory card formats: Compact Flash and SD (Secure Digital)JOHN S : To the best of my knowledge it is for SD and CF cards. Your Sandisk Memory Stick Pro Duo most likely will not work. I have seen adaptors for micro SD to stick pro but not Pro to full SD. If you have a USB 2 reader or laptop you can see if the Pro fit the SD slot (don't power up).LOUIS O : It's a CF and SD card reader only.ROBERT L : I use lexar professional and sandisk extreme 111. They read both and at a fast speed. Should read your card also. Hope this helps you out. P.S.-you won't regret having this reader.ROBERT LINDSAY G : As the description states, it supports CF (various permutations) and SD (various permutations) only. No Memory Stick permutations.

I Like this

I use this with my UDMA card and it works well and very fast. I like the way that all I had to do was hook it up and it went. It is made to protect the itself with a popup/down catch. this is very nice and small for travel, but not the smallest I have seen. It is about 2.5"x2.5"x0.5" All around great product or the price.

Geat Card Reader, you got to love USB 3

The reason you buy a USB 3 reader is you want faster performance and this unit gives it. I have a Cannon 40D and I shoot in raw format. I preformed a test to give you some idea on what it did on my system copying raw files. The data below was using a 300x 8GB Transcend CF card. I basically just copied the files from my hard drive to the card reader and then copied the files back to my hard drive. If you have one of the faster CF cards then you will see even better performance. The data I used are 116 raw files with a average size of 11.5 MB. The total amount of data moved was 1.29 GB. The time to write to the card was 43 seconds which is a average speed of 30 MB/s. The time to read from the card was 7 seconds which is a average speed of 184.3 MB/s. I have owned this card reader for 8 months now and have had no problems with it. I highly recommend it.

Lexar Card Reader

I needed a reliable card reader that could handle the transfer of images quickly. I use Lexar CF and SD cards. I like that it closes up when not in use.

May or Maynot Work

This was my first USB 3.0 reader, and it is fast. But, it quickly startsd giving me trouble. On my desktop it would freeze the computer if I left it plugged in while working in LR3 or PS5. On my laptop it would start and stop ever few seconds. Lexar took it back and replaced it. But the replacement was a Refurb and older judging by the serial and version #s. Strangely, it worked fine in USB 2.0 ports.

Impressive speed and elegant design

As promised the USB 3.0 delivers fast transfer rate, I have stopped taking jpegs since the transfer speed of the Raw images to my PC is so fast. The design is elegant and compact, much better than my old SanDisk card reader.

Works well

I purchased a different product and the pins bent after a couple of uses. THis one fits the card much better so it doesnt need to be forced in and out. It was a good solution for me when I purchased an L-bracket to allow vertical mounting of my camera on a tripod, which blocked the port for the USB cable. Now I can download pics without loosening the bracket.

Lexar ROCKS!

I finally (finally!) got around to upgrading my card reader. I just bought a new Fuji X10 and needed a reader to transfer SD cards. I can not believe just how fast USB 3.0 is transferring my images! I've been a professional Lexar user since going digital in 2003.

Wow. This is so worthwhile.

I have been using a Fire wire reader and it was disappointing how long it took to download 24 megapixel files. I installed a USB 3.0 PCIe card in my PC. Bought this Lexar Card Reader. The download of files is so so fast, I can hardly believe it. So worth it.

A Photographer's Dream

I take many sports pictures for the local school. I shoot all "raw" and jpeg" combined. I usually have at least 200 pictures to download. This process (with my old Lexar) usually takes anywhere from 10-20 minutes. The first time I used this I had 200 pics to download and to my amazement it took only 1 minute. Anyone who shoots a lot of large image files will love this product. Well worth the money....

Worth the Investment.

I owned the USB 2.0 version and when this came available, I jumped on it. It does make a difference. I did need to buy a USB 3.O card for my computer. Worth every penny.

Fastest Card reader Available!

I am a professional videographer that purchased this to transfer my video files from my SD card to my computer for editing/archiving. The files range from 1.0GB to 6.0GB in size. Those transfers used to take FOREVER with a USB2.0 reader. They are significantly faster with this card reader. I also use it when I transfer stills off my Canon Powershot point-n-shoot. I transferred 300MB of pictures and it was an instant transfer...no progress bar. Certainly a fast card reader. WORD OF WARNING THOUGH! I have an ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 motherboard, and the on-board USB3 slots don't work. ASUS knows about the problem, but apparently doesn't care. So this did cost an extra $30 to purchase a 2 port PCI card. Still worth the money though!

A must if you have a lot of data to push

I use this reader to take my Raw photos from a Compact Flash UDMA card and I find it faster than my older card reader. I like the way that it closes to keep dust out and the way that it sits neatly on my desk top. The price is good and the product is good, well made and reliable.
