Questions & Answers

BLAIR W : Which SD card would be better suited for my Canon 60D shooting in burst mode (I now have 4 Lexar Platinum II, 16 GB) or these Lexar Professional 400x XDXC memory cards? The only thing I shoot that I need a faster transfer rate is motor sport and I want to be able to take full advantage of my cameras 5 FPS. BTW I for the above I wouldn’t be shooting in RAW and may set my camera to a lower quality setting to achieve a faster frame rate.NAM L : I actually bought these cards for my Canon 60D bird shooting. In burst mode, the max that 60D can go is 5.3 fps. At the setting, AV + large jpeg - these cards offer more speed than the camera can handle (5.3fps)...so it's perfect choice - you don't need to pick faster card and pay more. However if you use 60D for video, then consider the thumb rule: faster better.DMITRY S : Any card would doBLAIR W : Hi MAKEDA D.. I’m not a professional either just someone who enjoys this hobby. As far as setting a lower quality setting it will transfer / write to your memory card because the file size is smaller. Shooting at 5 FPS is just taking 5 pictures per second. For me I’d use it during a car race to catch the pile ups in a crash. I just select in drive mode / Continuous on my 60D and it will keep taking pictures while I keep the shutter button pressed although there is a limit I’ve noticed its around 55 total in high quality JPEG and 99+ in lower settings. RAW is much lower and RAW+ JPEG is lower yet like a maximum of 7 that may have something to do with my SD card or my camera processing the image. I’ve had several film SLR cameras since the 70s but I need to learn a lot about digital I finally made the conversion so I also come here to learn.MAKEDA D : I don't consider myself a "professional" photographer; just a photo enthusiast who enjoys shooting grandkids dance recitals, births, family events, etc. I don't even understand the 5 FPS or how or why "change to lower quality setting to achieve a faster frame". Plan to take classes - but haven't found the time to do so. I will say that I have benefitted from Q & A about products on your site, and haven't had any problems with the SD card, but I don't have any experience with other cameras or sports events to be able to intelligently answer his question. Sorry :-(SRINIVAS G : I have been using both 16 GB 400x speed and 32 GB 600x Speed on my cameras Pentax K5 and Canon 6D. They just work great. I never had the problem of slowing down. In fact I shoot all my pictures in RAW + JPEG. If you are shooting JPEG along these cards will be a breeze. I haven't used a Canon 60D but Canon 6D's continuos shoot speed (4.5 FPS) is comparable to Canon 60D. Hence I don't see any issue on 60 D as well. Trust this info helps your decision making easier.RUDY P : I use Lexar 16gb 400x in my Nikon's. Theyu work Great !STEVEN R : The Lexar Professional series is all that I use in my Canon 5D Mark III. I use these as much for their reliability as for the speed. Theoretically they will be twice as fast as your old cards but that will mostly only be shown when you download from the card to the computer. You will see some difference inside the camera but will be limited by the camera processor itself. That all being said...you can't go wrong with these cards. They are faultless, fast, & dependable.BLAIR W : ok thanks for the quick reply .. BlairTROY B : For shooting sports, you want the fastest card you can afford. I use the 1000x CF cards.
Shopper : I have a Nikon D90 and will be going on a 25 day trip to the Galapagos, Machu Pichu & Lake Titicaca next month. I was wondering what card (s) to bring (thinking 5, 8GB cards) and which ones I should buy?JOSEPH A : I would plan for storage based on the maximum amount of images you plan to capture for the duration of your trip. To be on the safe side I would add a couple of the larger cards just in case you need more memory. If you are going to backup images in the field then you"ll only need a few. But in an instance like this I would rather be safe and have extra memory than regret images you could have captured because you ran out of memory. I would also suggest you test the cards in your camera prior to departure for compatibility.TED N : Lexar is a good brand. I have always used Lexar. You want to have plenty as for sure they will be more $$ on location IF they are available at all.ROB G : I have a D7000 that I took on a 10 day cruise & land tour of Alaska last fall. I took 2 16 GB cards and came back with 3500 photos. Don't short change yourself. I also transferred the photos daily to my tablet.:-)WEN-HUAI L : I usually purchase Lexar or San Disk brands based on personal experiences along with professional photographers' recommendations. 8 GB offer plenty of memory for pictures on the D90, which I own myself. You can consider 16 GB for videos. Sounds like a wonderful upcoming trip to the Galapagos.JIM O : I'm a professional, have been shooting with Nikon Digital cameras for 12 years, and never used anything but Lexar Cards in them. I own dozens of CF cards and several SD, and I've never had a card fail.JIM O : I shoot NEF (RAW) files on everything, and with my D3, those average about 15MB to 16MB each, so you're looking at writing roughly 500 images to each 8GB card; 1,000 to each 16GB card. Your D90 shoots the same size files, so five 8GB cards will allow you to record about 2,500 RAW files. That's only about 100 images per day of your trip. You'll no doubt see a lot of things that you'll want to shoot, and having enough space on your cards is the very last thing that you want to be worrying about. At current prices, I would recommend taking at least four 16GB cards in addition to what you already have. That will give you an additional 4000 frames, and the added convenience of changing cards less frequently. Have a great trip!BRENT G : If this is a once in a life time trip, make sure you are taking plenty of memory cards unless you are going to download and erase each day. If I were you, I would take at least 4, 16 GB cards. Make sure your camera is set to the highest resolution setting. Do you only shoot Jpeg or also Raw? Raw required a lot more memory. I have also experienced card failures while on a trip, so make sure you have backup for those memories. I would say purchase several cards and keep them for when you return to work on the captured photos.DOUGLAS Q : If you are shooting jpeg 8GB should be fine. If you are shooting raw you might want to go to 16GB or 32GB. I prefer Lexar but my second choice would be scan disk.MARQUE D : To Prospective Buyers: I have a variety of SDHC Cards from different manufacturers and came to settle on the Lexar Pro.16 GB as my card of choice. It excels in price, speed, capacity and reliability.Since my compact Canon digital camera shoots in 1080HD video, the deciding factor was the speed at 60MB/sec.(400X)which gives me smooth video and a longer run time. Also, you can shoot a high frame-per-second rate if your camera is capable of it.But for most cameras,a 30MB card is sufficient for common everyday shooting. Nevertheless, it is better to have (4)8GB cards than (2)16GB cards in case one fails and you can't buy any during your trip travels.Don't put all your eggs in one basket. In the end, it all depends on your camera equipment capability, type of shooting you do, and your budget. Hope this insight was helpful for you, and good shooting in the world God has made so beautiful....JENNIFER S : May want more if shooting raw. But you will love them...reliable. DAVID C : Hi, if it were me making this trip, I'd say 5 of the 8GB cards are enough, given some assumptions: 1. shooting RAW. 2. backing up with a notebook and to an external drive DAILY. (i.e. making 2 completely independent copies of every shot before you reformat the memory card.) I did this on a trip to Alaska, and added burning DVD's as a 3rd copy every night. Before I left for home, I mailed the DVD set so that even if everything else was lost, I'd still have the originals. Today, I'd just add a 2nd external drive and mail that. If you're not taking a computer and drives, I'd take about 20 of the 16GB cards. This sounds like a trip of a lifetime, so don't let capacity be the constraint!
Nanci G : Will an SDHC card work in a Cannon Rebel t2i? The SD card I have now is so slow my camra tells me it is busy after a few shots, when I'm shooting in RAW.BOB D : Sorry , I'm shooting Nikon and don't know about CanonDENNIS O : Yes it will work. If your current card is too slow, make sure you pick up a higher class card (class 6 or higher especially if you'll be shooting some video) whether it's a regular SD card or an SDHC card (even SDXC cards will work on your camera). These cards are awesome. I use them in my Nikon D7000 and have never had a problem =)DMITRY S : Yes, this card will work with Canon Rebel t2i.RUEL O : Hi NAncy, Yes it will work perfectly, the speed is amazing, plus the T2i and the Canon 60D that I have run the same Digic 4 processor, so I'm definitely sure. I love these SD cards, they are very well made and I have never had issues with them! Hope this helps.JAMES P : Nanci. I can 't answer your Q about using it in the t2i, presumably the folks at Adorama can. They are great in my mk3 shooting raw. I've never had to slow down, although, I don't shoot for very long on high speed. Baseball swing, dive into a pool, you are good. The only problem I have with them is that they are so small, they are easy to lose. I really love that my new MacBook has a slot for sd cards. Transfers faaaast! Good luck, Jim MARTIN Z : Hey Nanci, I don't know what brand name SDHC card you have, but you can ALWAYS trus on Lexar Pro cards and also Sandisk SDHC cards to perform superbly. Your problem lies in either a cheap brand or the "Speed" of the card. I'm sure this 400x speed on this card will sufice your needs. But if you need more speed, go for a higher "x" speed. That simple. GodspeedJIM O : The problem that you are running into is a lack of buffer capacity. When you shoot quickly in RAW mode, the buffer fills and the images must be processed before the camera will allow you to shoot again. According to tests published on DPReview, at full speed the camera will only shoot 5 to 6 frames before the buffer is filled, but can record RAW files at a sustained rate of about one frame per second. If you want to shoot a number of frames at a high rate, you can switch to JPG-only format (even the largest size, at highest quality) and record up to 100 frames before the buffer is filled. I faced the same dilemma with my first digital SLR (a Nikon D100). If you are conscientious about getting your exposure and color settings correct as you shoot, you shouldn't notice a tremendous difference in quality between these JPG files and the processed RAW files. I used that combination professionally (and quite satisfactorily) for three years until faster cameras became available. Your ability to make major shifts in exposure or color from the JPG files will be lessened (too much adjustment introduces a lot of noise), but with such big high-resolution files, you should still be able to get great shots that you would have simply missed at the lower speed.

WILL BE BUYING MORE

I bought the 2 pack and so far it has been a great choice. I do alot of event photography and 400x speed matches well with what I am trying to do. So far I have used only 1 of the 2 because it downloads quickly and is ready to be use again. I will be buying more for back ups.

Nothing beats speed and reliability

I now own 4 Lexar sd cards, (2) 16BG 400x, (1) 8GB 400x and (1) 16GB 600x. They offer incredible burst performance and very fast downloads. I have never had an issue with any of them and they are very competitively priced.

Used it for mass family portraits. Put both in my camera to make sure I could keep shooting. Never used up the 1st card. Will do the same for my trip to Ireland next week.

Lexas Memory Card

Good quality memory cards. Recommended by Nikon for CoolPix 7800. Good price. I prefer to use memory cards that don't store too many pics so I can change cards when they get full rather than lose everything if a card goes bad. Each card can store about 400 photos (Raw + Fine JPEG).

My card of choice

I use these cards on my D600 & my D5100 and have never had any issues. They write fast enough for most shooting scenarios & store around 1000 shots oer card on the D5100 when shooting RAW. They are well priced & provide everything I need in a SDHC card.

faster for Nikon D7100

I have been using 400x cards in my D7100 and sometimes it seems that there is a delay due to transfer. I haven't seen any of this with the 600x cards. Have used Lexar for years and always stick with what works.

Great prices for 2 Lexar 16GSDHC

To get two Lexar 16GB Professional 400x SDHC UHS-I and at those prices I order, two twin pack which a was wonderful investment. The free shipping also helped to seal the deal, and was surprise when there was a Memory Card recovering software for free by going to Lexar website as an extra bonus made this purchase even better.

Nice cards for the price

Use if for both pictures and video in my DSLR and the capacity is nice. Don't use any bigger size as it is easy enough to change cards and therefore avoid lost files if a card goes bad. Never had a Lexar card go bed thou.

Is that the best you can do?

I am a professional photographer using these Lexar 16gb memory cards in a Canon 6D. The SDHC cards are small, compact and economical. The title "Professional" and the 400x speed still weren't enough to keep up with rapid sports shooting that I do. I have experienced lag or writing time during a shoot. My only complaint, but it's a big one, one I wouldn't have expected from Lexar. My next cards will probably be SanDisks.

Great product!

So far, so good. As a matter of fact, I wear out the decal on the cards before the cards give out. 16 gig is the perfect size for my camera to do lots of quality photos but not so large that if a card ever goes down that I loose a whole lot of images. Knock on wood... That's never happened to me with Lexar media. Great product, great price!

Very good product

I do a lot of astrophotography and day photography just as a hobby. As a detective I use my camera to photograph crime scenes. I keep my camera settings on medium size photos and normal quality. That gives me about 7,100 photos that I can take per card. Incredible amount. I've downloaded 210 photos from my son's birthday from the card to computer in about 20 seconds (give or take) and 450 photos from a recent crime scene in less than a minute (again, give or take). With my other cards, crime ...
