Excellent camera. This little Canon is wonderful. Not only is it small and lightweight, which makes it a perfect travel camera, but the pictures I am getting with the 600 zoom, handheld, are very, very good. The one glaring fault is the lack of a built in optical viewfinder which is absolutely essential. With the optional EVF attached, the camera is perfect for my needs, but I feel Canon should have designed this camera with that feature instead of making it necessary to spend another $200.

This is the perfect bundle. It contained everything I needed. The G3X is an awesome camera. I’ve been able to take pictures at all times of the day with excellent results.

With one (fixed zoom lens, you cover a vast range of lenses, which is great for travel. But, the auto focus is slow and occasionally inaccurate. All and all, it is convenient for travel.

I do like this one a lot but I dont like the LCD the way its exposed :( why cant you all come out with the same model and dont change none of the features so far just Nothing, But add a Flippy LCD like the G5X. as of now the LCD is more likely to be scratched if your not careful

The G3-X has performed very well so far. As a beginner, I feel that this camera is very easy to use initially, with auto functions that do a great job. Learning how to use the manual functions of the camera is very intuitive. The quality of the photos is fantastic and I am looking forward to using it in my future travels. All of the accessories seem to work great so far.

It is nice to have a viewfinder that can be removed and adjusted up or down. The camera is just the right size.

My Canon Powershot G1X is a great camera, but it didn't have the zoom range to be an 'all in one' outdoor camera, so it was relegated to small indoor events. The Powershot G3X has the zoom range to be that 'all in one' outdoor camera and it takes the fantastically sharp EVF-DC1 from the G1X. This allows viewing in bright conditions and stabilizes the camera for long zoom pictures.

I have been shooting Canon for years, 80D and predecessor with 100-400 L glass. It's amazing how this camera comes very close to the images I get with three times the weight around my neck. Just spent the weekend with the GX3 around my shoulder for the New Orleans Jazz Festival. I saw many a poor soul lugging long lenses and I guarantee I got more and better timed shots simply for the reason I had it handy ALL the time. Great camera Canon, well done.

Excellent camera with fantastic lens and features. If you don’t want to lug a lot of camera equipment around, choose this camera. 24-600 DSLR equivalent is awesome for close up and zoom needs!!

This camera is good for someone who is not at pro level but knows enough about functions to use the Manual features. Battery life is not good, you'll need 2 or 3, if you're using it on trips or photowalks. Video mode is good. Weight is heavy though zoomed all the way out provides high quality shots. This camera is slow to focus and get the shot. Touch screen is cool, wifi feature with canon connect works well. Even transfers short hi-res videos well. I recommended it to a friend who sails and travels a lot and wanted a good quality camera point & shoot version. He's happy with his. Mine, doesn't work for me & my skill level. Bad experience with Canon customer service to top it off. 14 days to return a product? Placed the order Feb 1, got it Feb 6. Got an RMA but no return shipping?Even if nothing is technically wrong with the product, it's inferior and that's why I'm returning it. Unhappy with what's supposed to be my favorite camera company.

The G3x has two competitors, Sony RX10 III and Panasonic FZ2500. The G3X has 25x zoom, the Panasonic 20x and the Sony 16x. The G3X also has touch screen. I've already owned a G3X for two years and I love it. If the touch screen and the extra zoom aren't important to you then the others may have some advantages. I think that Canon did a really nice job with the touch screen and I'd have trouble going back to all those knobs and buttons, but I do still touch the screen by mistake aoccasionally and change a setting unwittingly. Why am I getting my second one? This summer the zoom lens motor started to fail when I was pointing the camera vertically downwards, and now the zoom button is failing (the return spring no longer works. At first I thought 'only 2 years?' but then I checked my photo count and realized I'd taken 19,000 photos! I'd guess that's not bad for a motorized zoom/focus lens.

Recently used this camera on a trip to Nashville and it performed very well both in low light and outdoors. The optical zoom is terrific. Great alternate to my 70dMarkII & 28-300 lens.

Got this camera as an intermediate between a fullsize DSLR and my phone. In terms of usage, I would say the G3X is the perfect traveling camera. Between a smartphone and the G3X, you'll cover almost every situation you encounter. This 600mm equivalent zoom really comes in handy for distant shots as well as death of focus control. The downside is that the auto-focus is not nearly as fast as other cameras, but it's understandable given the wide range of focal lengths.

My relationship with the G3 X is a love/hate affair. This camera is awesome--I get stellar photos from Birds In-Flight to Flowers and can take both sharp and soft artistic pictures. That's why I love this camera. What I really don't like is the AF system can be finicky meaning that the camera will not lock on target when zoomed in say to 400 to 600mm. Also, I went through 3 of these camera's because of a "Lens Error"--of course Canon covered them under warranty! But--still a pain in the tosh and my confidence in the G3 X's ruggedness is now shaken considerably. With that said--I consider the G3 X a great camera (who doesn't like 600mm optical in a small package) that gets lots or great shots in camera without the need for post processing. So, I recommend the G3 X but with reservations!

I've had this camera for a month, and I have since taken over 1000 photos of tall buildings. Its wide angle of view and weather sealing make this a superior camera. My first for the Powershot series and a Canon. It's also great for taking photos over the lake and animals at the park with its 225mm zoom. I'm so happy with the photo quality of my portraits with the EX 270 II flash I bought with the camera. I look forward to dealing with Canon again in the future.

I like this camera and even though it is my wife's, I plan to use it when I need to travel light. Amazing zoom range and good optical performance. It has low noise until about ISO 800. It has the functions I rely on, such as white balance tweaking, raw files, exposure compensation. The vibration reduction function works well. It actually has many functions I do not use but that's now, maybe later I will understand their value.

First, thank you for this camera, Canon! My experience has been this so far: The G3X has an AMAZING 24-600mm equivalent zoom! See my attached images, most of which are zoomed to 600mm. Sharpness and clarity does not fade at all! I included two shots at a baseball field: one at 24mm, the other at 600mm so you can see the extreme ends of the range. It simply does not disappoint! Image Stabilization is a true 4 stops! I have repeatedly shot hand-held images, at full 600mm zoom, at 1/40th second. Secondly, I love the weather sealing, which the G3X provides equivalent to the mid-range EOS cameras. You don't have to worry about dust creeping in or having to pack everything up if it starts to drizzle (Canon says not recommended to use in rain). I wanted to be able to attach a speedlite (the 430EX III looks perfect on this camera) and have control of the flash from camera, like EOS cameras. This camera does that! Finally, image quality does not disappoint for what this camera has - a 1" sensor. Too many people compare it to a full-frame DSLR, but that is just comparing apples to oranges. It's not even the same sensor size as an APS-C. I find this camera to be exceptional in well-lit situations, or with use of fill-flash for darker areas. This is NOT a low-light shooter, despite the IS. You will still get grainy images once you go past 800 ISO (even 640). The EVF is certainly a must when you go outside. It a fantastic aid, and is made of metal (i.e.: durable), shows all the data you'd see on LCD, and provides a crystal clear image of what you are shooting. Overall, I am very pleased with this camera. It is not perfect, but it suits my needs perfectly. It is extremely versatile, compact compared to a DSLR, and produces sharp, clear images, even at 600mm!

I upgraded from the Canon SX-50. The transition was smooth, but the electronci view finder for the G3-X is incredible. Don't buy the camera without it. The viewfinder on the SX-50 was a weak spot. I had trouble finding small birds. Not so with the G3-X. Also, the photos that I take with the G3-X are much sharper.

Let me start with saying that this is a good camera in a way it takes good quality pictures for a 1-inch sensor. What else would you ask for? How about these: integrated viewfinder, better use of the lens ring (like for zooming), fully articulated display panel, customizable speed of continuous shooting, ability to charge the battery via USB connection, built-in GPS, ability to use glass filters without special adapter. Instead, you get some silly features, e.g. face recognition and storage, smile detection, image effects, hybrid-auto mode. The biggest drawback is the EVF attachment, it just screams for being damaged or lost.

The zoom range is amazing however it didn't seem as quick to focus or as crisp as the G7 Mark ii.

My workhorse camera has been the EOS 70D with the EFS 15-85 mm zoom lens and I recently added a Sigma 150 - 600 zoom lens to replace the EF 75-300 zoom for those distance shots. I needed a general purpose camera package that I could pack in my carryon bag when I travel by air so I got the PowerShot G3X w lens hood & EVF-DC1 Electronic Viewfinder primarily for that purpose. It worked out awesome for my trip to the 43rd Annual Daytona Turkey Run. A couple of surprise features I really appreciated were the 90 degree electronic viewfinder and ability to shoot both stills & video in AUTO mode without having to set it back & forth. Except for the wide angle 15-85 mm zoom lens on the 70 D camera and its faster lens speed, I now prefer using the G3X out of sheer convenience for most of my shooting. It isn't perfect but for the hobbyist, it is a fun camera to use, particularly being able to use the 600 zoom range without having to change lenses. The two-piece lens hood and adapter is tricky to master as it has to be disassembled & reassembled for the stowage position. The video button is flush mounted and I have to use my fingernail to actuate it. The image erase & AF Frame selector buttons location require getting used to. G3X image quality is not up to the 70 D but acceptable for most of my needs and there is a delay time for the electronic viewfinder to come on when turning the camera back on that can be annoying when trying to take an impulse shot. I have yet to set up using the WI-FI feature with my smart phone which was another reason I selected the G3X.

The perfect travel camera!

Now you can capture stunning photos from 24–600mm – without the need to pack an additional lens. Decades of Canon optical know-how went into creating this 25x Optical Zoom. Amazingly compact even at maximum telephoto, the zoom works together with the large sensor to deliver superior image quality even if your subject, from birds to other wildlife, is at a very long distance, plus high IS performance through the entire zoom range.
The camera’s 1.0-inch, 20.2 Megapixel* CMOS sensor helps to capture more light in every pixel to deliver the rich detail and gradated image quality that make images come to life, even at high ISO speeds all the way to 12800. The high-sensitivity sensor works in concert with the camera’s lens to create soft, natural background blur as well.
