Questions & Answers

Daniel G : Can you focus the image? My slides are bowed and either need to be flattened or focused.Bela N : Es, scanner will focus
Stephen B : how does the braun differ from the Pacific Image PS5000?MIKE M : I do not know how the Braun and Pacific image units differ, other than brand name. I own the Pacific Image. It looks identical to the picture of the Braun.ELLEN H : sorry - We don't know anything about the Braun product.JOANNE P : I have no experience with the Braun MULTIMAG but use the PS 5000 and I like the results. It's noisy, and it skips slides, I have to watch it carefully, and I don't do more than 25 slides at a time because then it skips some slides. But I like that I can adjust the resolution and many other features the way I want. If it's a special photo or slide, I can get a very high resolution (takes about 2 minutes for high quality). I use ViewScan software with the PS5000 and it's well worth it. Three of us split the cost and we all have thousands of slides. It's been going for about a year and not disappointed that we purchased it, even with it's quirks. (It takes time to get used to it's flaws ... e.g. don't put a slide in the first slot as it often gets skipped.) I can show the slides on our 60" TV and the quality is fantastic. It does a great job of bringing color back to faded slides, but Vue Scan doesn't handle speckling. Have to use PS for that. Hope this helps.HUSAIN A : I have asked this question to a sales person from another store. Knowing that they have a big price difference, his answer was shocking: "They are the same, they only differ in the brand name."! Frankly, I did doubt the answer, but I bought the PacificImage scanner. I need to have both in hand to know the difference.JOHN B : I don't know. I would never buy the Pacific Image scanner again. Software does not work and patch suggestions are not correct for Windows 7 or 8.ROBERT M : Other than the Braun costing twice as much there is no difference in the scanner. However, the Braun slide trays cost less, hold more slides and work better than the Pacific ImageJAMES S : I don't know.Stephen B : Many thanks for your answer.JEFFREY J : As far as I could tell, the difference was the name on the outside. But you might be able to find out more than I did. I have used the scanner a few times for blocks of slides, which was the point of getting this one. I have gotten usable results. If I were buying again, I might be happy with a scanner that did fewer slides at once and cost less. I seem to end up giving the scans individual attention anyway: dusting each slide before; cleaning up the corners of each scan of the ones that had cardboard slide mounts with rounded corners; doing what's reasonable to clean and correct each scan, since they don't seem great right out of the machine. Scanning an individual slide on this machine is possible, but it's more involved than with a machine not intended to scan batches at once. The software is what I'd expect with a product that doesn't sell a whole lot of units, it's a little clunky. With more experience, I might deal with it better.David C : It's the same scanner. You can use the Braun magazine on the Pacific Image scanner.
Lori G : Is there a way to fix or re-calibrate the machine once it starts to show rainbow streaks in the film images?PAUL J : Cannot help as my machine developed jamming problems and I returned it.
