LEWIS N : Would it be better if I went to the BHL 3 ball head when using the Sigma 150-600mm Sport and the Canon 100-400mm II IS lenses?Rudolph R : When it comes a ball head, I come from the school of thought that says the more robust the better. The more weight that a ball can handle, is all the better. As far using those big lenses goes, a ball would work great for composing shots on a tripod. I would not recommend a ball on a monopod, where tilt or pan/tilt head would be best. If you're looking to capture fast action with those big lenses, then a ball would work, but it will work against you more than with you. A gimbal would be ideal for a long lens, at a relative stationary location, to capture birds or sports. A good tilt, like the Kirk, on a monopod would work better with the big lenses if you need to move and reset quickly for a new shot. Hope this helps.JOHN R : For sure if your using long lens it would be much better and better for panning. The pistol grip will not be a good fit for a long lens.
