I bought this to cut down on the weight for long hikes. It worked great on the first trip from the North Rim to the South Rim at Grand Canyon NP. I didn't try it with 200-400mm lens but I don't think it would support the weight fully extended.

The build quality of this thing is amazing. I went from a garbage tripod I rarely used to this + the PHQ-1 5way panhead and I was shocked at what I was missing. Very very pleased. It opens fast, it closes fast, it's dust/weather proof. Lovely!
