Review Summary
Designed with high-performance multitasking and multimedia environments in mind, the Initio Speedway series PCI-UltraSCSI bus master host adapters deliver up to twice the performance of conventional FastSCSI. Speedway supports the latest UltraSCSI and UltraWide SCSI peripherals at up to 40 MB/sec, and takes advantage of the 133 MB/sec burst rate of the PCI bus to provide unmatched I/O performance. Speedway supports all popular operating systems including DOS and Windows3.1, Windows 95/98/NT, OS/2, SCO UNIX, UnixWare, NetWare, and Linux.
While Speedway host adapters are capable of keeping pace with the most demanding applications, they offer complete compatibility with your existing SCSI peripherals. You can combine up to 15* SCSI-1, SCSI-2, SCSI-3, or Ultra SCSI peripherals for optimum performance and value.
Speedway host adapters feature SmartSCSI, a user-friendly, BIOS-resident setup utility that allows individual device configuration and host adapter termination via the keyboard. The Initio Manager Set makes your SCSI software installation under DOS and Windows simple and painless.
The Speedway host adapters include both auto-configuration and auto-termination for Plug-and-Play installations in PCI based systems. Speedway host adapters will run in Intel compatible PCI systems.
The I/OSPEEDWAY series utilizes a unique PCI-SCSI engine integrated into a single chip to provide the highest performance while maintaining maximum compatibility with today's and tomorrow's peripheral products. The PCI-SCSI engine employs a distinctive Integrated Scatter/Gather Engine (ISGE) to provide more performance with DOS/Windows, Windows95, Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups, OS/2, SCO UNIX, UnixWare, Linux and NetWare. All with exceptional overall value.
All Initio host adapters include DOS device drivers for CD-ROM, Magnetic Optical (MO)/removable media and a DOS format utility. MO drivers and format utility supports 512, 1K and 2K bytes/sector block sizes.
Comprehensive support includes the following devices: SCSI hard disk drives, CD-ROM drives, CD-ROM writers, rewritable optical drives, WORM drives, multi-function optical drives, floptical drives, printers, scanners, removable drives, DAT tape drives, QIC tape drives, 8mm tape drives, and others.
