This lens was exactly what I needed to take better close up. Lightweight but Nikon quality. I am still learning how to use it but I have already seen some improvement in my photos.

This amazing lens is an essential for street night photography by it angular field of view, it sharpness and it high aperture, which all together aloud to freeze the situation at an ISO relatively low . Here a picture I took by night in old Quebec at a speed of 1/40 at 800 ISO.

This was my first lens after the kit 10-30 and 30-110 kit lenses. I enjoy shooting cityscapes/architecture so a prime lens was essential for me. I took it on a trip to Mallorca and I would like to include a few results but the 5MB limit (imposed by Nikon) compromises the quality of this lens. I also have the 10-30 kit lens which did not seem as sharp as the 18.5 especially in selfie mode. I have the J5 and used the selfie feature and the color code feature as well and this lens did very well with both features. Although not as wide as the 10-30 for those selfies when you want to catch more background blur the sharpness was far better. I would certainly recommend this lens. If you enjoy land/city scenes you cannot go wrong with this lens. For most of the trip I kept this lens attached only to take it off when I needed a closeup of wildlife that happened to land on something. The selfie feature of the J5 was made for this lens.

This lens is definitely worth the money. It is very forgiving, fast and light weight. Simple straight forward prime lens that does exactly what it says. I read other reviews that said it was equal to a 50mm lens on a DSLR and it is. The kit included a cleaning kit, filters and cap leash. There are three lens protectors in the kit that are very cool the blow brush works well and the filters are quality. I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend to anyone.

I just recently purchased this lens and I really love using it. I was looking to replace the kit lens for everyday shooting and this lens is the one I decided to purchase for my Nikon J1 camera. This is my third Nikon camera I have purchased over the years. There are many other lenses that I want to purchase for this camera. I also recently purchased the FT1 adaptor. I prefer to take my smaller lenses to photograph, rather than taking a dslr lens.

Great 'normal' lens. Only thing missing is optical stabilization, I'm sure that will be coming in the future, but for now this lens is wonderful in corner to corner sharpness.

I use this lense for indoor and low light photos. It's great for portraits and getting good close ups. The lens is sharp at 1.8. I used it first on my J1 and upgraded to a J4 and I'm even happier with it because of the creative function on the j4. The selective color process makes it fun to take portraits. I've included some pictures that I have taken with this fantastic little lens.

This is the perfect lens for your Nikon 1 system. It's fast and well made. I returned it but I will buy it again this summer because it is the perfect lens to take close ups in the woods. Adorama returned my money within days.I buy all my photo gear at Adorama.

This lens is a great in low light!! It works great on videos with both my Nikon 1 V1 and Nikon 1 J1. It matches my Nikon 50mm 1.8 d lens.

Instantly improved the photographic quality from my daughter's V1. It is the Nikon 1 equivalent of the Nifty 50. Great price, and the first extra lens you should get to make this system shine. Will get the external flash to round this out.

...the nikon 1 system offers great image quality and a fun factor that is off the charts...the 18.5 continues that theme...affordable, fast 1.8 aperture, superlightweight, blazingfast autofocus, a 50mm FOV...and really, it's just GREAT !!! ...just get one and enjoy the ride with a prime lens.

If you are using the Nikon 1 system, this is the one lens you must have! Sharp, light, cheap, fun. If you have been wandering around with the kit lens, this will be just the ticket to start taking some real photographs. Highly recommended!

I was a little hesitant about purchasing this lens because it did not have a zoom capability, but I wanted the faster speed it offered. This is now my favorite lens on my Nikon V1. It takes incredible pictures. I took pictures of Christmas lights that were stunning. I wish now that I had purchased this last summer for a wedding. I am now using my V1 more than my DSLR.

I bought this lens so that I could have some fast(er) glass in my V1. With kids who don't stop moving, the fast focus it provides allows me plenty of keepers.

Recently bought this lens along with the 6.7-13mm....to round out my Nikon 1 system (also have 10-30 and 30-110). This is a very good, sharp lens. Nice fast focus and quite sharp wide open. This lens is very handy, especially in situations like shooting video indoors where you want to keep you ISO down to avoid noise. Used this at a local home show today....light was 'ok' but not great in the exhibit hall. This little lens performed wonderfully and I was able to shoot at ISO400 or under all day long. If you own a Nikon 1 this is a must have lens.

I bought the white 18.5mm lens around 5-6 months ago, and I haven't taken it off my camera since. I hardly used the 10-30mm or the 30-110mm. The lens is small, making the J1 a very portable camera overall. The pictures taken with this lens is noticeably sharper than the 10-30 and 30-110 lens. If you like pictures with shallow DOF, this lens does deliver. If you are like me and you want a lens that works well under low-light conditions, this lens definitely fits the bill. I found the focal length of this lens to work for everyday photography 90% of the time. It is capable of creating some very flattering photos that make you look like you know what you are doing, even if you are just an amatuer like me. I really like this lens for both portability and performance. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who owns a Nikon 1 system!

This little lens, takes me back to the days when a decent camera would ship with a fixed 50mm 1.4 (or similar) lens. Most consumer level modern digital cameras, even the quasi dslr's ship with a do it all zoom which lacks any kind of aperture. This little lens, with it's 1.8 hasn't come off the camera since I put it on. Forget the bland 10-30 (or whatever the thing is) that comes with the camera. I plan on buying the fixed 10mm, since I now consider this camera worth investing in. I wish they made a fixed portrait lens like a 135 (which would be a 50 in the the Nikon 1). I highly recommend swapping to this lens as soon as you buy your Nikon 1.

I love the V2 camera though I wish it had a tilt or flip screen but this review is about the lens 18.5 1.8. First its a excellent price for a fast lens. Took this lens out last week to see what it could do. Been a while since I walked around with a prime lens. Easy to fall back into zoom complacency. Got home and loaded the pic files on the computer and WOW! Highly recommended!

I have tried all but the super zooms on my Nikon 1 camera. This lens is by far the best lens made for this system for my use. I take portraits and not being able to isolate the subject has been the biggest downer for Nikon 1. I only got the Nikon 1 V1 and later J1 because of this lens. With this lens you are able to get decent bokeh in your portraits. Nothing crazy. You will get a subtle bokeh which I personally prefer over the very blurry bokeh with indistinguishable background. Also on top of getting a decent bokeh, this lens is sharp and produces good contrast and color. Much sharper and crisp than the 10-30mm kit lens which I almost stopped using. (I only use it when I may need the wide angle.) Also, 18.5mm length is perfect. (50mm equivalent on full frame) It's good for portraits and general walk around. This length has diverse use! I even used it to shoot indoor basketball shots around the hoop with great results. Fast focus and fast aperture make it possible to shoot even indoor sports. Indoor shots in natural light is very possible. I even like the noise produced in the picture... I like the vintage look it produces in the pictures... I carry my Nikon 1 and this lens everywhere. My only complaint is that although the size is ok, I do wish it was 10mm f/2.8 size... Don't get me wrong. This lens is tiny! I just wish that it was tinier... It's just an awesome lens and a must for Nikon 1 cameras. For $186, you must try this lens. Don't miss out on what your Nikon 1 camera can do when paired with a quality lens like this.

Everyday shooting, some portraits. I love carrying this when I'm just casually shooting and don't need the big DSLR. The white looks great and different from the cameras around everyone elses neck. Easy adjustments, settings, would be great with an EVF but I get by without it. Great camera!

This is the only choice for those who needs a 50mm(equiv) f1.8 lens. And thank goodness it is a good lens. I bought it for my V1 because none of my Nikkor FX/DX lenses come close to that focal length and aperture because of the 2.7 crop. IQ is very good. Bokeh is acceptable but not as creamy as the DX 35mm f1.8 on my D90. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. It's a bit pricey(was expecting ~$140). It is not exactly pancake size too.

I own the Nikon 1 V1 & the d3200, and this is the sharpest lens on either camera. Better than the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 and slightly superior to the 50mm f/1.4, although the latter has much better low light performance. I'm planning to return the Nikkor 35mm because it just doesn't compare.

This 18.5mm f1.8 lens is currently the fastest prime lens available for the Nikon 1 system. It is also the lightest and almost the shortest compared to the 10mm f2.8 Nikon 1 Nikkor pancake lens currently available. It, like it's more expensive and but slower sibling prime lens have rapidly become my favorite "street photo" lenses. The glass quality is typical Nikon "excellent" across the spectrum. Great for capturing indoor, candid shots at parties and other similar festivities with or without flash illumination.

Great performing lens. Found myself using the auto setting on the camera most of the time since it worked pretty well in maintaining the widest aperture and lowest iso setting needed to achieve proper exposure. Indoors it's also a great performer with faster shutter speeds than the 10-30mm lens. Now I can take pictures without having to use the flash to freeze motion in lower lit areas.

Wonderful Lens

Just received this lens today. I really wanted to give it a quick try out, so I did a little wandering in my back yard. Both shots were at f2 and the results are more than I hoped for. Extremely Sharp and the color is great. Not quite as much "Out of Focus" Bokah as I had hoped for, but I figured that going in. This little baby is a Keeper.

The 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 is a normal, 18.5-mm (angle of view equivalent to 50 mm in 35-mm [135] format) fixed focal length (prime) lens with the fastest maximum aperture, f/1.8, in the 1 NIKKOR lineup. Its lightweight size makes it conveniently portable. Adoption of an aspherical lens element to the latest optical design results in extremely sharp rendering, as well as reproduction that expresses the beautiful blur characteristics and three-dimensional feel expected of a fixed focal length lens. As the lens itself is so fast, it is not only capable of capturing sharp, blur-free images indoors under dim lighting without increasing ISO sensitivity, but it also supports incredibly fast shutter speeds up to 1/16,000 s, enabling capture of photos utilizing the lens' beautiful blur characteristics even outdoors on bright, sunny days. With a weight of approximately 70 g, the 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 is the lightest lens in the 1 NIKKOR lineup, making it extremely easy to carry around. When used with the compact and lightweight Nikon 1 J1, J2 or V1, the incredible portability of the entire system makes it easy to take additional lenses wherever you go, increasing the possibilities and enjoyment of photography in any situation.
The 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 is a single lens perfectly suited to those new to fixed focal length lenses as it easily allows users to expand their power of expression through interchangeable lenses. It is best suited to scenes in which a portrait subject stands out clearly from a beautifully blurred background, whether it be at a party or other special event, or with standard portraits.
1 NIKKOR lenses continue in the tradition of the Nikon F mount, which has a history that goes back more than half a century. 1 NIKKOR lenses employ the new Nikon 1 mount, and are developed for use with Nikon 1 cameras. The optical technologies and superior image quality Nikon has long cultivated along with the latest cutting edge technologies adopted for NIKKOR lenses ensure sharp rendering not only with still images, but also movies. The 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 is the sixth lens in the 1 NIKKOR lineup, following the 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 normal zoom lens, the 1 NIKKOR VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 compact telephoto zoom lens, the 1 NIKKOR 10mm f/2.8 slim, wide-angle, fixed focal length lens, and the 1 NIKKOR VR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM lens equipped with a power-drive mechanism recommended for movie recording all released last year, as well as the 1 NIKKOR 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6 2.5x normal zoom lens.
