This lens is absolutely amazing. In first, I tough it angle of view would be a little to narrow, but finally, it is absolutely not because it allow you to be ''out'' of the scene and making you more discret, leaving the subject to still at it own natural. I took this picture in Cuba on the beach in night time, lighted by small lights and a fire on te beach at 1/20 of second at 1.4 and 400 ISO. The other picture being took in Quebec city also on night time at f 1.2, 1/60 of second and 400 ISO.

The new lens is fantastic. However the diaphragm broke after 18 months and the aperture is stuck closed. I foolishly bought this from a so called "gray market" retailer for a measly $150.00 savings, so a replacement of the A Unit will cost me $270. I would recommend against buying such a costly fragile product. I am an Engineer, and one of my main principles is that you should not offer a product that you cannot really make; i.e. that does not have appropriate robustness or repairability. This lens at this cost is a perfect example of too little life for too much money.

This is the only f/1.2 auto focus lens in Nikon's entire inventory. This lens has a 35mm format equivalent of 86.4mm and works wonders as a portrait lens. This lens has resolution that compares to Nikons best FX lenses. Below is a photo of my granddaughter taken with a Nikon 1 V1 camera body, a shutter speed of 1/125 of a second, an aperture of f/1.4, and ISO of 450, Auto White Balance, and Matrix Metering.

This has got to be the best lens in the Nikon 1 lineup. Not only is it fast, but the quality is very good. Bokeh is fantastic for headshots. I know I will be using this for headshots and close portraits so it's perfect. This definitely does the job for me and a very exciting lens to use.

I've had this lens for a couple of weeks now and I am thoroughly enjoying it. It's a large and heavy lens compared to my other 1 series lenses, but it's actually quite small for having a large f/1.2 aperture. Pictures are quite sharp even wide open (though the edges are a little soft) and stopped down to f/2.8-4 it couldn't be sharper. This lens has really helped me take great candid indoor shots of family members because of the huge aperture but it's also great for outdoor photography as well. This lens has very good contrast and is highly resistant to flare (I guess that nano coat stuff really works?). Build quality is excellent and I'm really happy that this lens has a silky smooth manual focus ring. The MF implementation is decent, and after a little getting used to it you shouldn't have any problems. Also, I'm glad that this lens is shipped with the lens hood. I think all lenses should come with them, but because that isn't the standard I'll comment that I was pleasantly surprised that this one comes with it. The only negative that I have noticed thus far is the high levels of CA when shot wide open with harsh light. It's not a deal breaker for me as it's easily correctable using CNX2 and because I don't typically shoot wide open when there is so much daylight. The focal length might be a bit narrow for some people but I really like it and it allows me some working distance when photographing people. This lens combined with my other two favorite lenses (6.7-13mm & 18.5mm) makes for a very capable and lightweight system to walk around with.

Bright and Resolute Nikon 1 System Portrait Lens

This is the only f/1.2 auto focus lens in Nikon's entire inventory. This lens has a 35mm format equivalent of 86.4mm and works wonders as a portrait lens. This lens has resolution that compares to Nikons best FX lenses. Below is a photo of my granddaughter taken with a Nikon 1 V1 camera body, a shutter speed of 1/125 of a second, an aperture of f/1.4, and ISO of 450, Auto White Balance, and Matrix Metering.
The Nikon 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2 Lens (silver ) is a fast medium telephoto-length prime lens designed for use with the Nikon 1 series of mirrorless digital cameras. The 32mm focal length is equivalent to a 86.4mm in the 35mm format and coupled with the maximum f/1.2 aperture renders this lens ideal for portraiture due to its longer-than-normal perspective and ability to produce imagery with a shallow depth of field. Also contributing to offering greater control over focus placement is the inclusion of a manual focus ring, which can be used in both manual and auto focusing modes due to the M/A manual focus override capability. When working in autofocus modes, a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) focusing mechanism provides smooth, fast and quiet focusing performance that is ideal for use when recording HD video.
This lens utilizes a floating element design as part of the Close Range Correction (CRC) System to produce sharper, clear images when working at closer distances. Additionally, a Nano Crystal Coat has been applied to lens elements to minimize internal and surface reflections to prevent lens flare and ghosting in order to create vivid and contrast-rich imagery.
The lens barrel features a silver metallic exterior that is well-paired to the design and appearance of Nikon 1 mirrorless cameras. Its small and lightweight form-factor is especially beneficial for everyday use and well matched to the overall compact system.
