Leaked

Got it a couple of years ago in Hawaii. Loved the camera. But snorkeling in grand Caymans and LCD went out. Investigating the camera noted water behind the anterior lens. It was leaking after minimal use. Do not recommend for 250 dollars

Yet another dissatisfied AW110 customer

I thought perhaps that I was unique with my black screen problem, but now see that this is a very common problem with the "waterproof" camera. I've had my camera for 3 years and was loving the underwater capabilities. On my last trip, I took the camera snorkeling to a max depth of ten feet. I always make sure the camera is completely closed before using, wash it off with fresh water, etc. It has always worked fine until last week. When I went to look at my pictures, lo and behold, the camera turns on but the screen is black as night. It still takes pictures, but there is no way to see what you're shooting or alter the settings. Let potential buyers beware that this seems to be a very common issue. Since it is out of warranty, Nikon will not repair, even though it seems to be a quality issue. I would never purchase another Nikon camera again.

Cheap quality

Owned this camera for less than two years, took it to two trips to Mexico. The camera is now out of warranty and the screen doesn't turn on. Service wants $125 to look at it. looks like the plugs for USB have some corrosion on them and plugging the USB cord sometimes makes everything work for a few minutes. Obviously not really water proof and made with cheap steel if corrodes so easily. ELECTRONICS LIKE THIS SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN TWO YEARS!!! NEVER BUYING NIKON PRODUCTS AGAIN!!!!

Won't buy another Nikon.

I have had this camera for almost two years. The screen has been very hard to see since day one...very dark. Now the screen has gone black. Some blogs said plug it into my computer, none of my three computers will recognize the camera. I will say the pictures taken "not" under water were not too bad for such a cheap camera.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CAMERA!

LCD stops working. After reading reviews this seems like a common issue that does not get resolved. Camera is useless. DO NOT BUY.

Not waterproof

We used this camera for snorkeling a couple of times without issue. However, it broke after 5 minutes of our first scuba dive at only c. 10 meter depth while this is supposed to resist to up to 18 meters. Really disappointed with this product which we do not recommend at all to anyone.

Not a single regret

Had this camera for over two years now. Took it on a 2-month trip through 26 different states, under water, in sink holes, caves, oceans, lakes, ponds, on mountains, etc. Climbed many rocks with it around my neck and it banged against them a good number of times and never broke. The zoom is pretty outstanding for such a small and cheap camera. The videos are great and the features on it are great too. I will probably not buy another camera as long as this one continues to work. All the videos I've taken have been with this camera.

Amazing

I bought this camera year when I drove to Alaska and was working there for the summer. When i first turned it on, I was amazed. My last point and shoot camera was big and bulky and took horrible pics, but this, was almost as good as the big cameras. I was so excited when I found out it was water proof and it took 3D pics. It also has amazing zoom. The pics came out amazing. Then, i took a trip to orlando . I went to discovery cove and went snorkeling with the dolphins with my baby (My camera) I got amazing pictures of stingrays, fish and sharks. In fact, they looked better then pictures taken by the huge under water cameras! I must have dropped the camera like a million times but its still in perfect shape. This is the best camera

Do Not Buy this Camera for underwater use

This camera does take beautiful pictures until the screen goes black after using it in the water. I had to return my first one after the screen went black the first week I had it while using it snorkeling in less than 10 feet of water. Thinking that this was a uniquely defective camera, I stupidly bought another because I liked the idea of a camera that could be used in the water. Unfortunately the second camera did the same thing and I was in a pool only under water for a few seconds at a time over the course of 20 mins and the next day the screen went black. The camera still takes pictures but with no display the camera is useless. So I literally used this camera twice and got 60 pictures out of a $330.00 camera. Since I'm out of warranty I can pay to get this defective camera fixed, if it's even fixable. After reading so many reviews with the same problem this camera must not be waterproof as it says and have bad seals. I feel like an idiot for buying this defective camera twice- DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA!

not waterproof

bought this camera last year, took to mexico snorkeling & after 3 pictures the screen went black & stayed black for 6 months after! It just turned on randomly, we didnt want to risk another black out this year on our new mexico trip so we purchased a under water dry bag to place the camera in. Unfortunately the dry bag leaked and approximately 1 tablespoon of water got into the bag and the screen blacked out again, after the camera dried out the screen came back on. If your looking for a reliable "waterproof" camera for vacationing this is NOT the one. We spent a ton of money out of the country at our resort buying underwater disposable cameras that were more dependable than this expensive one!

It was great...

Camera worked great until I used it underwater. I followed the instructions and tried not to keep the camera submerged underwater for too long. The screen went blank after my 3rd day of vacation in the Caribbean. I found out that it was still taking pictures but the screen did not work so I was unable to change settings. I am very disappointed and very sad.

My AW100 died and Nikon CS took great care of a customer

The camera takes just as great photos as my AW100. My AW100 died but Nikon Customer Service worked with me and took care of me. Great follow through for customer service and what soured my opinion actually came through. The camera is great although I haven't taken use of the WiFi yet. I have used it a few time of my nieces and nephews in the backyard pool and everyone was loving the results.

I thought I loved this camera..

Sad to be rating it as average, as initially it had superior quality! It survived a Tough Mudder, a cruise & never went deeper than 1 foot of water. The screen gave out on me yesterday while at a waterpark, it's useless now as there is no way to zoom in or know exactly what I am taking a photo of, see the options menu. It's like having a GoPro and I already have one of those. Shame! The photos I did manage to get from this camera were BEAUTIFUL quality. It still works as far as taking photos goes but I should toss as without a screen it's not fun to use. I have only had the camera for 3 months. I never once saw this issue in a review before I purchased and now all of a sudden it seems to be a very common issue with other buyers. I doubt I will buy another as this camera was very expensive to just give out at 58 feet less than promised.

Owned for 3+ years and never a fault

Ive had mine since Christmas of 2011. This guy has been to the beach and pool countless times with never an issue. Always cleaned it with fresh water, and I have never doubted the seals. I am hoping the new ones are mostly user error than hardware error because unless there is a bad internal seal somewhere, I really do not see how it can fail.

Gets the Job done underwater, but dissapointed!

Pictures are nice during daytime, blurry at night because the flash is always messing up, after a few minutes the flash goes out and the pics look bad for the night time setting and turning flash on does not work because it suppose to adjust to light . Very frustrating! Screen went out in less than a year, which tells me its poorly made or it just not the way it's advertised.

Camera stop working after dipping only 10 cm

Camera stop working after dipping only 10 cm!!! After I did some research I found that half of the people is fascinated with this camera. This are the ones who had no problem at all. The other half is very angry because, as happened to me, the camera stop working with some few cm of water...

best underwater camera out there

I bought one of these last year at a target store while on vacation in Orlando for discovery cove, for $349.00. It took amazing shots and video at depths greater than 15ft. I was using it underwater for hours with no problems, and no signs of leakage. When I got out of the water, I noticed I must have scratched the orange paint on a rock. The scratch bothered me so much that I exchanged it the next day for a new one. I keep my electronics meticulous. Well took the new one in the pool a week later back home, and after about an hour in the water the screen went black. So I returned that one also, I was so mad at myself for returning the first one that had the little scratch on it, but worked fine. Anyways, Walmart has these on clearance for $229 right now (May 2014), I even asked the manager if she could discount it even more, so she took off another $21. Long story short, so far so good. No problems whatsoever, takes beautiful shots, and no signs of leakage. I guess it's just the luck of the draw with these.

Defective not waterproof

We bought this camera for a trip to Hawaii, specifically for snorkeling. On our third day when it just went into the water it flooded. We were loving it until then. The camera was locked as it should be. We then did some research and found out this is a common problem for the aw100. We should have done our homework better. Nikon does not seem to stand behind this product and we lost out.

Fato: vai funcionar somente fora d'água... se me retornarem a máquina funcionando... :(

DO NOT BUY AW110 camera!

We purchased this camera because Nikon was a good name for cameras and this camera was waterproof. Found out the camera is not waterproof, it stopped working after 7 days of use. We sent camera in for warranty work and Nikon said it had water damage! Really a waterproof camera that has water damage? I have a Canon camera in past and will go back to using Canon equipment. We bought this AW110 for vacation use and it totally put a damper on our vacation because we were without a camera to use.

I highly reccomend this camera!

This camera is great! I got it for Christmas, and have had no troubles with it at all! I've dropped it, it's fallen off my Tripod, and I've dropped it from the height of my horse, totally fine. It also takes really nice pictures. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this camera, and highly reccomend it :)

Easy to use and carry

I bought this one as soon as it was available. I have taken it on some cruises, to the beach, on the kayak and on the trail. I have never had to worry about it getting wet, unlike some of my friends. The is best waterproof camera that I have owned. I have owned 2 others.

NOT Waterproof !!! :(

Purchased this Camera weeks ago just before very expensive - 2 week trip to Mexico!! Very first time this thing hit the water it was dead!!! Unbelievable that this could happen in todays high tech world!. We had a couple days worth of photos on it which were saved on the card but now we had the rest of the trip which included snorkelling and sight seeing to areas we will never go again!!. We had an OLYMPUS For last 12 years and it was bullet proof!! We will be returning this JUNK for new OLYMPUS TOUGH!!

NOT waterproof!

I purchased this unit in December 2013. Took it with my for a family trip with my kids. The camera died the first time I decided to use it in the water. Saw some bubbles and 5min later, the screen died. Brought it back to my room and took the battery/memory card out and noticed some water in the chamber. Also saw some instant corrosion on the micro-USB connectors. I am absolutely disappointed in Nikon for this! We couldn't use our camera for the rest of our trip! The worst part of all this is that they won't cover water damage in their warranty!! Stay clear of this camera if you plan on submerging it in the water. It might be fine in the rain...

AW110 stopped working after 10 minutes of snorkeling in Caribbean Sea

My wife and I got this camera in December of 2013 and was very pleased with its functionality and quality. Everything was great until we used this camera on our trip to Jamaica in February. The camera stopped working after 10 minutes of snorkeling on our 3rd day of our 2 week vacation. I ensured that the latch was properly closed and we were less than 2 meters under the water. The camera was supposed to be waterproof up to 18 meters. Needless to say, we were very disappointed with this product and were left to use disposable cameras for the rest of the trip. (The pictures from the disposable camera didn't turn out well.) I am currently in contact with the Customer Service/Repair team and will keep you updated with Nikon's course of action. (I.e. Will they exchange the camera) - Dennis

FEATURED REVIEWS

Beware of negative reviews

By Rokudan

After flooding my last underwater camera (not a Nikon and my fault), I started looking for a new one. I read many negative reviews for the various brands - usually because it flooded. I'm guessing that this was user error more often than not. I have had excellent experiences with the Nikon brand and when they announced the AW100, I started checking it out. My next big trip was going to be a 28 day cruise in the South Pacific, so I needed something that would last - I chose the AW100 and was ...

Great Hikers Camera

By Flyin A.

I have had this camera (in orange) since it first came on the market (thanks to my loving wife). I have used this on multiple hiking trips in Big Bend National Park and the Grand Canyon - climbing Mt Saint Helens, etc as well as family vacations to the lake in the boat. I have NOT submerged the camera - but have carried and used it in the rain with no problems whatsoever. LIKES: 1. Compact & Ease of use single handing camera while hiking. 2. Water resistance while outdoors. 3. Battery life - ...
