I used this camera about a year and like many features it has. However I bought it liking the idea I could use it in water. However the FIRST time I used it in water while snorkeling, afterwards I noticed condensation at both the viewfinder and rear screen. It stopped working since then. To make matters worse, since the 1 year warranty expired when you go to the Nikon website you're redirected to a repair facility. If you want to send your camera in for an estimate you need to pay for shipping both directions in advance. I'm willing to pay to get it there, but if the cost of repair is too high... I say toss the unreliable camera. Don't take more of my money.

At first, I must specify that I'm big Nikon fanboy and I do own some of other Nikon products (and I'm very satisfied about their performance). This model though is garbage. I bought it in December 2015 and I can say that it did its job in my Cuban vacation (i did some snorkeling). The pictures taken with this camera are good and I didn't expect to beat the quality of my Nikon DSLR. This December though, when I went deeper ( I did some dives in Dominican Republic up to 15 meters depth), after my first dive, the camera quit on me. I went at that time up to 7 meters (being confident that the camera will withstand the water pressure since it was rated for 18 meters depth) and when I've got out, the unit worked for another few shots or so and eventually it quit. At first, it gave me a 'lens error' message and after few more minutes it stopped working completely. I must specify that before this (as per manufacturer's recommendation) I kept it in fresh water for more than 10 minutes and after this I dried it using a towel. I used a flashlight to have a closer look and I could see sand INSIDE the lens and allover the camera screen (inside as well). I thought that maybe I'm simply unlucky but when I checked the web, I could see that this is a well spread problem. I checked even the next model (Nikon AW130) and this one is plagued too so I decided to go with the competition (on this one). Since Nikon won't cover 'water damage' warranties (which is weird, the least to say, for a camera which is meant to be used under water) I didn't bother to call Nikon Customer Support and I disassembled it. It was a total damage (full of rust and corrosion) Too bad I can't have a complete line of Nikon cameras

Great little camera until one day a top to bottom pixel line appeared down the middle of the LCD screen. Then, like a creeping cancer a small screen burn appeared on the upper right hand corner of the LCD screen. The screen burn has now taken over the entire LCD screen. Interesting to note that on page 33 of the Quick Start Guide Nikon mentions screen burn as a possibility. I am a professional photographer, have used Nikon since the FTN days, black body, and the camera has never been dropped, or images left too long on the LCD screen. The screen has never been exposed to direct sunlight either, I know better than doing that. Until all this stuff happened to the camera, it was a great back up camera to my D-90 and D-7200. The under water photos were perfect, but now they want me to send it to some other than Nikon service center, and pre pay, with my credit card, a total of $ 137.50... ouch... For a camera I only used for a few months due to purchasing it, and then having to undergo Rotator Cuff Surgery and not being able to do any photography for 6 months. Yes, folks, I could not even raise a camera and take a photo... not fun... at all... Nikon was nice on the phone but this sure seems like a design error on their part, and they should fix it for less cost I believe.

I accidently drove over my AW120 and it kept on working with no problems! :) (see photo) Image quality is ok, not spectacular, but just fine for the price.

I can't deny that this camera takes great quality pictures and video, BUT the fact that I only got to use it on two vacations within an 18 month period before it broke is very disappointing. After jumping into a pool with the camera, the screen fogged up/got condensation inside and water was also inside the battery compartment that has a locked seal. The camera would then not even turn on. If you can afford to pay $250 for the camera and then another $150 for it to be repaired, then by all means go ahead. I however, will not be buying a Nikon product again since I do not enjoy dishing out unnecessary money in such a short amount of time of owning a product.

This is my second AW120. The first camera I had was so good that someone in Peru stole it from my backpack. The camera takes great pictures and excellent videos. It is rugged and waterproof. I knocked it about Peru and got it wet a couple of times. I bought another one, this time a refurbished one because the AW120 is not made anymore. I use the camera as a backup. My other camera is a D810. I am a semi-professional photographer and the Nikon brand of camera is all I will use.

I have to say the AW100 was an awesome camera that took great pictures and worked under water flawlessly !! The AW120 has a few upgrades but overall my AW100 took better pictures!! The AW120's best upgrade is you can charge the camera directly with a cord not requiring a separate charger. The worst feature about this model is I have had problems with 2 leaking at depths less than 4ft!! Both leaked around the screen and the sense not through the battery bay!! Nikon and there service center gave me quit the run around saying they were going to fix a water logged camera. They have had my camera 2 weeks and I'm still waiting on an out come. I will most likely have to buy another brand or go and look for a retailer with old AW100 back stock!! I hope the AW130 is better because it seems the AW line is getting more options but far less durable and picture quality is going down. Overall I would try to steer clear of this camera if you will be anywhere near water!!!

I purchased this camera specifically for underwater photos in the waters of the Galapagos Islands. We took hundreds of underwater photos, and the results were outstanding. If we set up the photo with care, given the inherent limitations of this relatively simple camera, the result was a quality photo every time.

I have had this camera (AW110) for 18 months, I had the AW100 before this one. I got this for additional under water depth (59'). I have used it in pools, the lake, Jet skiing, ocean diving, snorkeling, beach, dusty mountain trails, etc. Never had an issue with it. I get great pictures from it, not as good as my DSLRs (D750 and D7200) - it is a great camera to take when the conditions do not let me take my expensive DSLRs. I always rinse after dusty and water use, and I always am careful when opening and closing the battery/SD storage door, I make sure there is no dust or debris in the seal before closing. I would highly recommend the camera - just ensure you treat it with extreme care when you open/close the battery door and rinse it off as instructed after water and extreme condition use.

I'm a Scout leader and our troop goes out on a lot of outdoor activities. The AW120 is great for activities like multi day hiking trips, camping, fishing, snow camping and river rafting. It's more rugged than the typical point and shoot and much lighter than a DSLR. It also has some cool features like a compass, and GPS tracking which allows me to tag our hiking trails which comes in handy during presentations to parents to see where their Scouts had been. I've taken wonderful landscape and nature photos, as well as group shots. I've even taken a picture of a trout in the water without problems. Compared to my first AW, the AW100, the AW120 now has a five times zoom and a 2.8 opening, which has been a cool bonus when taking photos in dim lighting. I'm also able to turn on the camera, focus and press the shutter while wearing gloves. That said, there are other point and shoots that are cheaper and can take better photographs than this camera. If however, you would like to have a rugged, reliable camera to use for the type of activity I mentioned earlier, then the AW120 should be on your short list.

I bought the camera for a very rugged hike. The fact that it was waterproof and shockproof were exactly what I needed. The camera worked great. Upon return getting the images off the camera proved to be a chore. The software supplied by Nikon is mind boggling. I was expecting to plug the camera into my laptop and easily see the images. You can't see the images on the camera. ?? You have to navigate a plethora of features you will probably never use to move all the images to your laptop. Forget about selecting one picture that you want right now. You can't even see the images. The camera is great however without being able to easily manage the images it makes it product undesirable.

The photos taken with the AW120 are good as long as the light is adequate; images begin to deteriorate in dark, cloudy days, for example. The post-exposure processing is slow even for a small camera, so don't expect to do a lot of rapid shooting! Also, the waterproofing seems to be good; I haven't tried dropping it yet.

I was rafting on the Nantahala River in North Carolina, and my daughter had my AW100 Nikon around her neck with a Lanyard. Unfortunately she was discharged from the raft during a sequence of Class 3 rapids. Another raft picked her up, but in the process pulled the camera from her neck and it was lost in the 40 Deg F rapids. It was gone, and I was heartbroken but obviously over joyed about my daughter's safety. The camera had served me well on many AT hiking trips, beach trips, and cold weather camping. After several weeks of moping, I decided to visit the Nantahala again during the off time of the dam release. After walking up river a mile or so, I found the glistening Orange Nikon in about 2 1/2 feet of water probably about 200 yds from where my daughter's discharge took place. It was battered and scratched up pretty badly from bouncing off of the rocks and I expected it was toast. When I got home, I was very surprised that it powered up and I was able to retrieve the pics. Hard core camera for the money. I'm saving now for the AW120, with the new silicon sleeve, I expect it will be even better!

I bought this camera (AW110) as my wife has several DSL Nikon Cameras (D40x, D5000, D800e). I have always used a Sony camcorder with a underwater housing but decided to get a under water camera after seeing my brothers Canon. I took it to our trip in Maui and Kauai. It lasted a week, failed the first time I took it into the water.....2 weeks, no camera!

I've looked at several other reviews on this camera that were saying it was junk, not waterproof, breaks, etc. they are totally false! I bought this camera for a week long canoeing/backpacking trip in Canada. I took over 450 photos and videos with it and all of them look gorgeous! I used it underwater too and had absolutely no problem with it. Great photos. I will say that to make it through the week I used two batteries. But it's really not that bad at all! One battery is like 10-12 bucks people. If you are buying a 300$ camera you can afford another $10 to DOUBLE your shooting time. I've had completely no issues whatsoever with this little camera. Trust me, buy it! You won't be dissappointed!

I have only had this camera a couple of weeks so it's still in the testing stage, but so far I am satisfied with its features and picture quality. I have not as yet tested it under water, so we will see. The only downside is the battery life between charges is not what I have been used to with other pocket cameras and I hate the fact that you can only charge the battery inside the camera. What was Nikon thinking when they decided to not provide a seperate charger. I will need to buy a spare battery and I need to research if there is a compatable wall charger for this battery.

I purchased the camera for a five day canoe camping trip. With a fully charged battery, I began the requisite camera setup. I only got as far as entering the time and date when the camera would do nothing more. The screen remained black. I tried powering it off (I wasn't certain if it was off or no) and starting again, but the screen remained black. The only way the camera would respond was by removing the battery and reinserting it, then it would power up - but never advanced any further than the time & date setup screen. I had great expectations, but after subsequently reading mixed reviews regarding customer service and the waterproof qualities (or lack thereof), its probably best the camera failed from the start. It was returned the next day. And, so the search for a reliable (and operational!) camera starts again.

Bought my AW120 a few weeks back and am totally satisfied with the purchase. Being an avid diver, I wanted a waterproof camera that could be used in and around the water without fear of getting ruined. I haven't had it in the water yet but everything else has been great. The pictures are sharp, both in daylight and low light situations. I also love Nikon's Wireless Mobility Utility app that allows me to look at and transfer pictures to my phone. This allows me to take that perfect shot and upload it almost immediately to social media and other online sites. It is also fun to take photos remotely using my phone now and then. At this point the only negative that I have encountered is with the lens placement. A couple of early shots contained a nice close up of a finger in the corner of my pics. I have now used it enough that I automatically grip it with my fingers out of the way. I am looking forward to taking my first dive with it and seeing how those shots turn out but so far so good!

I bought this as a Lumix replacement on a vacation- I worked great until another vacation and used it in a pool and it had catastrophic leakage. I don't think any underwater camera will ever be any good.

I bought this camera a month ago for a trip to Egypt. I took it everywhere, including diving, and I'm really impressed with the photos and video both above and below water. My only caveat is that this camera was definitely designed for a right handed person, since the lens is on the top left side of the camera. This was fine for me since I'm right handed, but we have a bunch of photos and videos of my left-handed husband's fingers!

More than I had hoped for

I have had this camera for nine months now, and it has been to Alaska during a fishing trip, to Barcelona, Spain, Rome, Florence, Venice and Paris. I did not baby the camera and it took some abuse from being in my pocket or getting wet in rain and/or sea spray. It has provided great pictures that remain clear even with enlargement. Most recently I took it to the Bahamas and took numerous shots while walking in the water with my wife. I gave one to my son and he traveled to Fiji and Thailand f...
