Great quality for photos once you know what you're doing with it. Video mic isn't the greatest but a program can fix that. I've attached some samples of zoom quality.

I bought this camera in May of 2013 and have loved the pictures I get with it when it works. The problem has been that it frequently locks up and is stuck for some time before it resets. Then it will often immediately lock up again. Sometimes it seems to reset and work better for a while and I can take a bunch of pictures before it locks up again creating much frustration. I have missed several good picture opportunities because of this problem. I have searched all the online databases for help and have not been able to get it fixed. I missed the 1 year warranty period which was my fault so Nikon may have helped if I reported the problem in time. I just purchased the S9900 to replace it. I hope that one works more reliably.

I really liked this camera, looks, feel, picture quality. I couldn't ask for more for the great price. However now after 1 1/2 years the camera will not turn on. Camera was well taken care of and handled well. I really expected it to last longer. Not real happy with now trying to find a repair center and paying for service. Maybe after many years of use I would expect the need for service.

I brought this camera thinking I got a decent camera for the price. Went on vacation and took plenty of pictures, not happy with the quality of my pictures. The majority of my pictures were not clear, a little fuzzy not sure why any help would be appreciated.

The L820 produces quality images from great quality made camera that features a sharp Nikkor zoom lens. I compared this camera to my old Nikon SLR camera systems that I used for my guilty pleasure hobby of amateur photography. Upon the advent of digital cameras, it took me a while to ease into digital photography, so after years of playing around with the L20, I moved up to L820. I must admit I love the camera's feel, touch, handling, and ease of use for an essentially point and shoot camera. I am very pleased and look forward to creating many memorable images with this diverse tool.

I am probably not your ordinary person who would buy a point and shoot, but am a avid DSLR user. We live in the west where hiking is very hard at times. I don't always like to take my DSLR equipment with me so started looking for a more compact camera with a good zoom to take on some trips and hiking in the mountains. I first found a Lumix point and shoot and purchased it...only problem with it is that it only had a wrist strap and I accidentally dropped it bringing it out of the bag. It fell and went into the hotsprings...started looking again and found this one and you had it on sale! Yay me! I like the zoom, especially being able to use it on the lens and I love the neck strap. It takes awesome pictures. The cons: The battery compartment door was hard to shut, but there might be a trick I do not know about and the lens cover should be made a little different so not to have an error on it if turned on with it on. It is so easy to forget!

I got this for a birthday present, and was so happy since I broke my other camera. This is the nicest camera I have ever had. I love that it will zoom in and out during video. I love that the shutter side provides a grip for holding the camera comfortably, I love the color. At a soccer game, the wind was 30mph sustained. We thought all of the pictures would be blurry. They were so clear and focused. I highly recommend this camera. I love that it is refurbished. I feel like I got a steal on this.

So far so good. My pictures come out blurry however and I hope to figure out how to correct that.

I bought 3 of these cameras, all refurbished for myself and my two teens for Christmas. Two of the three hadproblems, but these were resolved very smoothly by Adorama. They send me return labels by email, and I was able to ship them back at no cost to myself. We got the new cameras shortly after, and have had no problems since. My daughter is really the one who loves to take a lot of picsand videos, and she has had great successwith this one. The only drawback is that it will not fit in your pocket, but we knew that when we got it. I chose it for myself because I like to take close up nature shots, which can be difficult sometimes unless you have an awesome zoom. This had the highest powered one we found at this price.

This is my first Nikon product. I am very pleased with the quality. There are some issues getting good indoor shots. The zoom is great. I have captured some great shots with this camera. I hope in the future to purchase a DSLR. Great price great camera.

This is my first Nikon and I love it! For the last 20 years I have only owned & used Canon. While I am still exploring/learning about all of the features of the Coolpix L820, this is the best camera I have ever owned. I am highly impressed with the cameras zoom capabilities & the picture clarity when the camera is in zoom mode. The camera is easy to navigate and use. I can honestly say that this camera has made me a Nikon fan for life. Any future cameras I purchase will be Nikon because I am highly impressed with the camera I got for the price I paid. I paid much more for a Canon Powershot and I was never able to get the exceptional quality of picture I have gotten with my Nikon Coolpix. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone, especially people like myself who are not professional photographers but want to capture the shot just right.

I've waited until I've owned the camera for at least 6 months to write the review. I've taken it on two long trips, one was almost three weeks. In that time, with the best NiCad batteries in it, it took shots for all the time I was on the longest trip without changing. Maybe because it has four of them, but you just don't worry about it. Plug in a LARGE SD chip and you have all your movies and pictures on on chip. Everything about it worked as it should. The anti shake feature gave clear pics even when I was in motion. Colors and the flash were flawless. I can't figure out what the ones that sell for two to three times more can possibly do that this one can't do. I LOVE this camera so much, I'm considering buying another one "just in case"... What a darn good deal, what a darn good camera.

Right out of the box this one amazing camera! The features are very easy to operate, set up is amazingly simple. I am old school all of the way but I have wanted to update to a digital camera since the old days of film cameras. This camera is a great entry level camera with many great features that I would expect in one many times more the dollar amount. Needless to say I am impressed beyond words! I would recommend this camera to anyone on a budget who wants the affordability, but wants the features of a professional; this one has it all. Kudos Nikon!

I read the reviews at CNET and from some users and it was the quality of Nikon and what goes into a refurbished Nikon (100% hand tested and diagnosed) that got me to try this camera. I am a casual photographer, but enjoy some features to capture the perfect sunset, birds in the back patio, the blooming fruit trees, and various travel photos. I was concerned about the various drawbacks from reviewers, but am not quite sure why they found one tenth of a second a slow recovery or what was wrong with the low light capture. ALso, I have had the camera for about three weeks and have still to notice any loss of charge on the batteries. My pictures are sharp and clear and the zoom is fantastic. I do not lose the sharpness when I zomm in all the way. For the cost, and the extended warranty through Adorama, this camera was a bargain and only $30 more than the camera I had lost which did not do half the stuff as well as this Nikon. I feel that this camera is an excellent point and shoot camera for anyone except a professional or camera afficionado.

I bought the L820 as a self indulgent retirement gift for my-self this past November. As good as the Canon point and shoot I also own is, I felt limited by it's 720 resolution abilities. The L820 was on sale and the price was too good to pass up.There's a lot to like about this model Nikon, it has more features than I'll ever use which is okay as the features being used so far do a terrific job and exceed my needs and expectations. The only thing I find as a negative is the lens cover.Only once have I forgotten to remove the cover and fortunately the camera didn't seem worse for the experience.Olympus uses a spring loaded design where by four over lapped lens covers permanently attatched move aside as the lens moves out from the housing. It's an excellent design and one I would like to see used by Nikon.Another plus if possible for the price point would be an old fashioned view finder.Sometimes the flat screen on the back would wash out in sun light.A feature I like with the L820 is at the 1080 resolution enlarged images don't lose crispness or clarity. The video is all I could ask for, with good sound capture and fine detailing in the imagery. The use of double A batteries was a surprise but in hind-sight it makes sense.Like Coca-Cola,double A batteries can be found anywhere you go in the world and you can also buy them as rechargeables too.The L820 got a serious work out for the two months I was gone over seas and I'm very happy with my buying it. Really a great camera, so much so I think if used by professionals on a daily basis it would give a good account of itself given its pricing..."Boomer48"...

Camera disappointed because in moving images are blurred very sad truth, worst when the L810 camera has another family and do not have this type of problem. I can not send examples of images that are larger than 5MB

The ad says that it was refurbished, and it was (in a box from Nikon Service center), and I can find nothing at all on the camera to show it. Works perfectly and takes great photos at all setings. Very pleased with it, and the savings in price is a bonus.

Bought refurbished unknowingly. It was like new and except for the warrenty being 6 months shorter, couldn't tell it from new. With the $50 saved, I bought a 2 year extended warrenty from Square Deal. Unsure yet but camera may not be as sharp as it should be. Pictures so far are good.

Nice little camera with the ability to produce great color in your photos. This camera is very user-friendly and one can be up and running in a short time. I'm a bit disappointed in a couple things. One, it needs four AA batteries. That can become a hassle. Second, you really need to hold the camera very still to produce a picture that isn't blurry. So it isn't good for action shots. I purchased it to use at my business for brochure and web design photos and it will work out great for that. I also wanted to use it with my nature photography in my kayak and I'm thinking it will not be useful for that. Not only will the watercraft be moving but so will the subjects I intend to photograph. I will have to wait and see just how successful I am with this camera out on the water. Maybe there is a setting that could assist in those issues that I have yet to find out. I will research this more. In conclusion, if I would have known that a very steady hand was needed to obtain a descent photograph I probably would not have purchased this model. I was sold on all the other features this camera holds and never thought that it would be so limited in the uses I was intending it for.

The Nikon Coolpix L820 camera is an excellent camera for the novice holder. It contains a lot of features in the menu as it does not have the dial listing like the higher price camera's does, which is one drawback as when you try to catch a constant moving object or person performing on stage, it is hard to keep track of the action in the window since it moves a lot. (: You have to read the manual good to understand when to look for a specific action to lock the camera on. But the great thing about the camera is it has a great HD video recorder built in and it beats the higher price camera's hat I own from Olympus and Minolta. By and large a great product for the price..

Pros: 1. good battery life. (I'm using 2500mAh Ni-MH rechargeables) 2. good video recording quality 3. acceptable picture quality for the price 4. Good Wide Angle 5. AA batteries. Cons: 1. artifact effect in pictures, 100% zoomed pictures look like water color paintings 2. dark images in low light condition, minimum shutter speed is 1s and highest ISO is 3200. You can't use the 4s shutter speed in "Fireworks" mode to Take a picture in the dark, It produces even darker images than "Auto" mode (you can't set ISO in "Fireworks" mode). 3. Lens motor noise in quiet environment. 4. VR in still images doesn't act that well. 5. Auto Focus is not accurate in Macro mode. 5. high speed video requires more ambient light for higher frame rates (NOT A CON) 6. No Aperture setting. 7. No shutter speed setting. 8. No Manual Focus Setting. 9. Self-timer not customizable. 10. Not that Compact. Improvements that are missing: 1. there are 2 Tele/Wide sliders that do the same exact thing, one of them could have been set for fast zooming and one for slow zoom. 2. a viewfinder could help outdoor photography. 3. less MP or a bigger sensor could improve picture quality.

My parents gave me this camera for Christmas and it is the best present ever! I'm so impressed with the quality of it. The pictures are so clear and the detail is surprisingly crisp! Concerning the video, the picture aspect of it is clear while the audio is also. The only problem I've had with it is the battery/memory card door. It was difficult to open and close and you have to perfectly line it up or else it doesn't close probably. But, after getting the hang of it, the door has become less of a problem, if one at all. Thanks, Nikon for producing such a good camera. PS, I love the selective color option it comes with. Definitely a bonus for me!

I've been looking for good camera for a long time. Ive had a fugifilm, an Olympus, Kodak, as well as a Nikon coolpix s570 but none of them seemed to do ANYTHING that I wanted. I never seemed to be able to get real crisp clear pictures, which is important for me b/c I want to get into doing some freelance work. I also coach high school volleyball and like to get good action shots of the girls so I can make a collage for them for their senior night. So, quality is important, but I am on a modest budget. The 1080p video was outstanding, and the 30X zoom was awesome. A lot of times when you zoom in the entire way pictures can get more blurry and/or grainy. But these pictures were Crystal clear. The ability to take multiple pictures at once is fantastic for sporting events. And the selective color option has been great for doing some of the girls senior pictures. For the money, you couldn't ask for a better camera. I've read reviews where one user had the product 24 hrs and then broke. That can happen with ANY brand and ANY model of ANY product.

Great zoom and HD 1080p video

Amazing

I was comparing a few cameras when I was shopping and I'm so glad I went with the Nikon. So far I'm impressed with everything. The low light imaging has exceeded my expectations as well as the clarity of the optical plus digital zoom. My only wish is that it had a view finder. The resolution of the screen is amazing but a view finder would help in high light conditions as well as being able to stabilize the camera up to your eye for those longer shots. I've included a couple shots as example...

Capture outstanding photos and Full HD 1080p videos from a distance, even in low light, with the Nikon COOLPIX L820. Its superb 30x optical zoom NIKKOR glass lens has both super-telephoto and wide-angle capabilities zoom in for highly detailed closeups, or zoom out and bring the whole scene into the frame. A 16.0-megapixel low-light CMOS image sensor helps you shoot natural-looking, crisp photos at parties, weddings, concerts and more; and it's ergonomic design features a larger grip and 3-inch LCD for maximum shooting comfort, speed and control. From family reunions to travel, you'll bring home amazing memories with ease.
Every COOLPIX is designed around a genuine NIKKOR glass lens, the legendary optics that have made Nikon famous. The COOLPIX L820 features a 30x zoom NIKKOR lens that takes you from wide-angle group shots to telephoto close-ups in an instant. And don't worry about a little camera shake lens-shift Vibration Reduction keeps the shot steady even when your hands are not.
Imagine being able to shoot without a flash at weddings, concerts, parties anywhere your flash normally fires. You won't have to interrupt a moment to capture it, and your photos and HD videos will look more natural and true to your memory. The COOLPIX L820 performs so well in low light situations that, in most cases, using the flash is optional. Of course, when the lighting is extremely poor and you need a flash, it'll be there.
If you want a compact camera that shoots stunning HD videos, the COOLPIX L820 delivers. 1080p Full HD means exceptional video quality. Record the action, then connect to an HDTV and watch your videos come alive. A built-in mic records high-quality audio in stereo. Your videos will look and sound phenomenal.
