I have owned this camera for several years and find it to take as good or better photos than any other camera I have used.

A very nice camera for the price. It is a refurbished unit but could not tell it from a new one. I will deal with Adorama again, fast service with follow up on purchase.

I bought this camera in March of 2013 and use it to take approximately 20 pictures a month. I wanted a point and shoot that was versatile and easy to use. The big selling point for me was the GPS feature. I love capturing wildlife and documenting them with coordinates. The camera proved to be easy to use and offers a lot of shooting options however it failed for me on the GPS as it was inconsistent. After a few months of having the camera the grips started to bubble and pull away from the camera body. It's taken a couple years, but two pieces have pulled away and fallen off completely. Since it is a lightly used camera, I am positive it was a flaw in the glue. Overall I like using the camera for birding (as long as they stay relatively still) and taking pictures of my pets (fairly nice pet feature)!

After several years and many, many pictures, tis is still one of the best camera's I have ever owned. It simple when you want simple and can be as complex as you need it. I have just purchased it newer sibling the L840 as a Christmas gift for someone who wants a better, easy to use, zoom-able point and shoot.

Bought this camera and was excited to use it. Charged the battery and it worked for about an hour and then a code came up that said "Battery exhausted". Tried to charge it again and nothing happened. Removed the battery, tried different outlets, made sure the battery door was closed. Very disappointed in this purchase. Will never buy another refurbished item again.

I actually grab it over my DSLR. The pictures are as crisp and it's less bulky to carry around!!! If you're looking for a great camera. No need to look further!

Love this camera. It fits all my demands without too much complexity. Light weight makes it easy to carry around. Extra battery is a must while out all day taking pictures.

Have a Canon G9, not CMOS but it's way to "buttony"....produces fair files for a CCD chip. Picked up this refurbished P510 for a great price. Love the CMOS chip, awesome lens zoom and operation is so much simpler than the Canon. I'm a retire Kodak Staff photographer and used top end cameras for years. Don't want to get into that again. I have used both Canon and Nikon. This Coolpix P510 has an edge over the Canon in my opinion.....While having great features you don't have to carry the User's Manual with every time you go out to shoot. Files, although not RAW are awesome and super sharp. Very pleased so far and picking up a refurbished one was just the ticket,

I bought my Coolpix 510 six months ago, and have appreciated it from day 1 - but today I really came to understand the magic of this camera! I was shoveling snow in front of my house when I heard a dramatic bird call. I looked up and saw a large bird 200 feet away. With my naked eye I wasn't sure what bird species it was - but I ran into the house, grabbed my camera, and just used the auto mode and zoom lever adjustment to take this shot! (And BTW it looks even better at the full size that exceeds your upload limit.)

Okay, I'll start with this: I am like, a total Nikon geek. I wouldn't have it any other way! I've got the mug that looks like a Nikkor camera lens, even. And you know what? It all started with this camera. I used a Canon Powershot before, and thought it was nice... until I purchased my first Nikon. I love the experience, the feel in my hand, the comfortable weight, and the LONG zoom. The Coolpix P510 has a stupendous image quality, and takes incredibly sharp images. Mainly, I like to photograph wildlife and nature, which often requires a strong lens, which this camera has. The image quality is excellent even at full zoom, and the auto-focus is very fast and exceedingly accurate. (Especially when compared to that ol' Powershot.) It has really great VR, too.

Great all around point and shoot camera, I love it. The Coolpix P510 with its long reach, is perfect for all basic photography. It's not good for sports like the excellent Nikon DSLR are but it is great for everything else. I think that it takes better movies then a DSLR, it's just a really good all around camera.

We own more than a half dozen digital cameras from point-n-shoot to professional SLR’s. Not only is this my favorite among our collection of Nikon cameras, it’s my overall favorite. First of all, for a compact camera it packs a wallop. The 42x zoom is simply amazing, and with the outstanding picture quality, it’s the perfect camera for the outdoorsmen on the go. The full HD video, though not in the same class as my dedicated video cameras, the quality is simply amazing for its size and cost. I’ve only had the camera for month, so I haven’t gotten around to using all of its features. But among the many that I have tried, the camera has performed flawlessly. I’ll continue to use my Professional SLR cameras to impress my clients, but the P510 is my new go-to camera.

I've owned this P510 for several months now, and have taken, literally, thousands of images with it. The results are always consistently first rate, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I have DSLR's and professional equipment as well, but don't always want to carry a load of lenses and the like when traveling and shooting personal photos. This is the perfect camera for those times, and I highly recommend it. Image quality is outstanding.

Merci!

This is a wonderful camera for the "almost serious" photographer. The 42x zoom is amazing. You get high quality photos & excellent detail without the very heavy camera & bulky large lenses.

I love this camera! The 42x zoom is amazing. It catches things you don't even see with the naked eye. The detail is fantastic. After a photo of, say, a flower is taken, zoom on it and find tiny droplets of dew, or a tiny bug you didn't see when you took the photo. You can count the feathers on the birds you photograph. If you don't want to be hauling around all the lenses and other apparatus that go with "professional" quality camera, but still want quality photos, this is the camera for you. --And the price is right, too.

For the price this is the best camera I have ever had. The picture and video quality exceeded my expectations when I made my purchase, and I expected high quality from Nikon since I have used there products for more than 40 years. I only recently let go of my original Nikon 1 that I purchased in Singapore in the early 70's. This camera is very easy to use so you can hand it to any family member to take a photo and know that it will come out well. Obviously it is not in the high end group of Nikons but it's performance rivals the best. Well worth the money.

I purchased the P510 as a warranty replacement for a P500 I bought used that was defective after 1 month of use. The P510 is a factroy refurbished unit and also got the Mack 3 yr extended warranty to avoid any future problems that might come down the road. Overal the P510 is a better camera than the P500. The optics are noticably clearer, and the electronics are faster by far, and easy to use in manual mode, excellent autofocus. The GPS is not as useful as I'd thought, since co-ordinates are not available by any display on the camera but only in the metafile after download. Also the GPS sattellites are not showing as available when other GPS devices can pick up 2-4 sattelites. The GPS always on shortens battery life considerably. If you want at real GPS device, get a wrist watch for $. Overall very satisfied with the P510 picture taking quality.

In spite of being a little skeptical while buying, this camera impressed me very much. I've been a staunch user of Sony and Canon cameras till I decided to try a Nikon. I could have bought a DSLR straight away but I thought of giving this new Hybrid Cameras a chance. I'd say, it would give any DSLR a run for money. A full packed house of extraordinary features combined with its light weight, the Nikon P510 is indeed a great camera for beginners. One thing that I'd like to say about this camera is its extreme night photography capability. I remember taking a shot in the night with all the lights shut down and the picture that came out was beyond words. It was as if all the lights were on inside the room. This camera is awesome for taking pictures of flames, firecrackers, moon, etc. I remember taking a picture of a crescent moon from the top of a mountain and it the outcome of the picture was better than any telescopic lens could have offered. I could see every single crater so clearly. Overall, the camera is one of the best things i've ever purchased! Thank you Nikon.

So far this is the best Nikon Camera that I have owned, I started years ago with a coolpix 5700, grandfather to the P510, an early DSL, D50, a P100, all have been good, however, so far this is the best and most versatile, great telephoto lens with out having to carry extra lens, VR lens holds steady even on long telephoto shots, good sensor, good in low light, the flash is improved over the P100, Great, versatile, fun, easy to use camera for a budget price

drawbacks: 1. out of date firmware. its menus are so 2004. this is very easy to fix, and could help with another drawback, 2. 8 seconds is not long enough for a manual shutter speed. not for a camera like this. 3. manual aperture only lets you take it to f/8 and again, for a camera like this, an f/16 would not be expecting too much. 4. the viewfinder is almost useless. forget to manual focus with it. 5. the charger must be an inside joke from nikon. plug the camera to the wall? the first time i see this. you better be able to keep your eyes on the camera for 4 whole hours if you're not home. 6. i don't care about the gps, but if you do, you should know it's not precise. at all. and you need an external program to actually read it. if it gets to lock a position. the great things about this camera: 1. awesome build. sturdy. quite hefty but that's expected and even desired on something this big. 2. awesome zoom. really. i'm taking the nicest shots of the moon, to give you a clue. dead easy to frame and take a good quality pic of something quite far away, without having to crop an image. 3. fantastic quality pictures. even if you do need to crop. getting surprisingly good results with photoshop. as good with low light as any other non-dslr. 4. decent battery life, provided you don't waste it on the gps. on the other hand, a sub-par battery indicator. that, again, could be solved with a firmware upgrade. 5. light and versatile. imagine a dslr and lenses that cover 24mm to 1000mm. put that in a little over a pound. and fast. 6. big variety of modes, scenes and little useful tools.

Took a Baltic cruise which had 6 ports of call. Took many oictures and never ran out of battery (I did charge it every night). The camera performed very well - i.e., shutter speeds were pretty fast, recovery fast, zoom worked great. Now I have a lot of editing to do.

This is my quick pick up camera at home or traveling. It does close ups to 1000mm like zoom photos. The image quality is very good and the photos post process great.

The P510 (refurbished by Nikon) is a great deal! I own 2 Nikon D5100's with several lenses (35mm; 18-270mm; 150-500mm)which yield excellent results but all that equipment is difficult to transport when flying. The P510 with it's 16MP sensor, and 42X optical zoom, allows me to travel light without sacrificing capability. It has basically all the features of my D5100 DSLR kit (except RAW mode and a good viewfinder! The 3" LCD display is excellent but the electronic viewfinder leaves a lot to be desired!). Do a Snapsort compare http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon-D5100-vs-Nikon-P510 to see how it stacks up to the D5100 or any other camera you might be considering. Just remember to focus on what you want in a camera.

The zoom on this camera is fantastic. I will use it mainly to photograph birds. Haven't had a chance to test it in different conditions, yet, but am very happy with the results so far.

The Good: Nice compact camea. Light weight, easy to carry around. Keep it in my car and use it a lot. Good picture quality. Especialy like the view screen and the White Balance features. In love with the 1000mm telephoto. The Bad: The close up capabilities are not very close up. Hunts for focus A LOT at long telephoto settings. I bought this camera for birding and it's a real struggle to get the camera to focus before the sun goes down. Am currently having qaulity problems with it and am sending it in for warrenty service. Dissapointing.

I had a little pentax optima that I just loved for taking macro shots..... I LOVE taking pics of the smallest things but wanted the detail... my optima did that for me and when it was broke I was ballistic. I tried and tried to find another camera like it that would take those wonderful macro pics... I wanted another pentax... however the website didn't have much to offer so I went to the nikon a brand I was also familiar with but not real into... that is until I gave this camera a whirl and OH MY GOD!!!!!! The camera had all the features I wanted but was so happy to find it went WAAAAAYYYY beyond my expectations. I was able to get all the shots I wanted both very close up to far away with so much clairity it was amazing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this camera and if it ever breaks I am going to die. This is the best camera I have ever had and am thinking about buying a second one and keep it set aside just incase the one I am using breaks. This camera is FABULOUS!!!!!!! Everyone should have one and see what you have been missing. There is only one thing I would change and that is the battery charger. The battery has to be charged in the camera unless they just forgot to put and external charger in my box. I am getting another charger and battery because once I got started taking pics I couldn't stop... THIS CAMERA IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing Camera - Unbelievable price!
By NVdigitalcameraman
Okay so I was thinking about buying the Nikon P510. Searching the Internet for any and all reviews, but nobody had a "hands on" review, yet. I had purchased the Canon SX40 IS... the chromatic aberrations were horrendous! Almost ever picture had that aweful purple fringing! I sold it on ebay and got most of my money back. So...here we go again...Nikon, Fuji, Canon?, Panasonic... They all had the typical good, bad and the ugly comments..but which one. For some reason I really liked the Nikon ca...

Amazing Camera!
By Annie
This is seriously an amazing camera. I can be sitting inside of my house and take a picture of a bird across the street in perfect clarity. It takes amazing panorama pictures and videos with high definition and sound. I would tell a friend to get this in a second. This takes stunning still photographs as well as action shots when in the sports setting. Even after uploading the pictures onto my computer I was worried that even though they were clear on the camera that they might turn out blurr...
