A very nice camera for the price

A very nice camera for the price. It is a refurbished unit but could not tell it from a new one. I will deal with Adorama again, fast service with follow up on purchase.

Worked for 1 hour

Bought this camera and was excited to use it. Charged the battery and it worked for about an hour and then a code came up that said "Battery exhausted". Tried to charge it again and nothing happened. Removed the battery, tried different outlets, made sure the battery door was closed. Very disappointed in this purchase. Will never buy another refurbished item again.

Really a nice camera for the money.

Have a Canon G9, not CMOS but it's way to "buttony"....produces fair files for a CCD chip. Picked up this refurbished P510 for a great price. Love the CMOS chip, awesome lens zoom and operation is so much simpler than the Canon. I'm a retire Kodak Staff photographer and used top end cameras for years. Don't want to get into that again. I have used both Canon and Nikon. This Coolpix P510 has an edge over the Canon in my opinion.....While having great features you don't have to carry the User's Manual with every time you go out to shoot. Files, although not RAW are awesome and super sharp. Very pleased so far and picking up a refurbished one was just the ticket,

Overall very satisfied with the P510 picture taking quality

I purchased the P510 as a warranty replacement for a P500 I bought used that was defective after 1 month of use. The P510 is a factroy refurbished unit and also got the Mack 3 yr extended warranty to avoid any future problems that might come down the road. Overal the P510 is a better camera than the P500. The optics are noticably clearer, and the electronics are faster by far, and easy to use in manual mode, excellent autofocus. The GPS is not as useful as I'd thought, since co-ordinates are not available by any display on the camera but only in the metafile after download. Also the GPS sattellites are not showing as available when other GPS devices can pick up 2-4 sattelites. The GPS always on shortens battery life considerably. If you want at real GPS device, get a wrist watch for $. Overall very satisfied with the P510 picture taking quality.

nice travel camera

drawbacks: 1. out of date firmware. its menus are so 2004. this is very easy to fix, and could help with another drawback, 2. 8 seconds is not long enough for a manual shutter speed. not for a camera like this. 3. manual aperture only lets you take it to f/8 and again, for a camera like this, an f/16 would not be expecting too much. 4. the viewfinder is almost useless. forget to manual focus with it. 5. the charger must be an inside joke from nikon. plug the camera to the wall? the first time i see this. you better be able to keep your eyes on the camera for 4 whole hours if you're not home. 6. i don't care about the gps, but if you do, you should know it's not precise. at all. and you need an external program to actually read it. if it gets to lock a position. the great things about this camera: 1. awesome build. sturdy. quite hefty but that's expected and even desired on something this big. 2. awesome zoom. really. i'm taking the nicest shots of the moon, to give you a clue. dead easy to frame and take a good quality pic of something quite far away, without having to crop an image. 3. fantastic quality pictures. even if you do need to crop. getting surprisingly good results with photoshop. as good with low light as any other non-dslr. 4. decent battery life, provided you don't waste it on the gps. on the other hand, a sub-par battery indicator. that, again, could be solved with a firmware upgrade. 5. light and versatile. imagine a dslr and lenses that cover 24mm to 1000mm. put that in a little over a pound. and fast. 6. big variety of modes, scenes and little useful tools.

Worked great!

Took a Baltic cruise which had 6 ports of call. Took many oictures and never ran out of battery (I did charge it every night). The camera performed very well - i.e., shutter speeds were pretty fast, recovery fast, zoom worked great. Now I have a lot of editing to do.

Refurbished: works fine,great camera

This is my quick pick up camera at home or traveling. It does close ups to 1000mm like zoom photos. The image quality is very good and the photos post process great.

Great image quality in a "bridge camera"

The P510 (refurbished by Nikon) is a great deal! I own 2 Nikon D5100's with several lenses (35mm; 18-270mm; 150-500mm)which yield excellent results but all that equipment is difficult to transport when flying. The P510 with it's 16MP sensor, and 42X optical zoom, allows me to travel light without sacrificing capability. It has basically all the features of my D5100 DSLR kit (except RAW mode and a good viewfinder! The 3" LCD display is excellent but the electronic viewfinder leaves a lot to be desired!). Do a Snapsort compare http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon-D5100-vs-Nikon-P510 to see how it stacks up to the D5100 or any other camera you might be considering. Just remember to focus on what you want in a camera.

I would recommend this camera to friends

The zoom on this camera is fantastic. I will use it mainly to photograph birds. Haven't had a chance to test it in different conditions, yet, but am very happy with the results so far.

This camera is great. I cannot wait until I get the telescope mount to take great pictures of celestial bodies.

Better than the one we lost.

Great range for szoom. Placement of top buttons is too close for a large handed person-easy to hit the wrong ones.

Nikon P510 Zoom from Hades

I use the camera for a variety of photos. I especially like using the massave zoom along with the stabilizer. This "point & shoot" camera has all the attributes of a much more complicated & expensive camera. There are lots of options to manually operate the camera if desired. Some things I don't like, when using the flash, red eye still occurs $ short battery life. I bought 2 batteries & a charger for (cheap) & solved the battery problem quick. Overall, this is the last camera I will ever need to buy.

Nice Little Camera

First the drawbacks. Shutter lag is around 0.2 seconds, which doesn't seem like a lot... until you tray to get an action shot. The view finder image is not good, especially if you are tracking something at full zoom. And last, short battery life, but I have 3 batteries and a AC/DC charger. Now for the good. 24-1000mm zoom is amazing. Image quality is outstanding. Nice size to carry around. Has fully manual to full auto modes and several nice special modes including select a color. I tried Canon, Fugi and Panasonic and this is by far the best of them.

LOVE this camera!!

I have had this camera for about 2 months now and I love it!! I am just a stay at home mom but I was getting sick of my point and shoot camera missing the moments with my two little ones-a smile can change in a second! This camera is excellent-for some reason my girls enjoy dancing to music on Pandora in the dark and I've captured soooo many ear to ear smiles with this camera. I'm so happy and the customer service from Adorama is EXCELLENT!!!!!

Excellent Point and Shoot

I bought this for my wife. I shoot a Nikon D3s and D300s. They are too big for her to handle. This camera is a great size. I've actually found myself using it. The only downside for me is the shutter lag because I'm used to shooting DSLRs. Someone who does not use a DSLR probably won't notice it. I like the video on it too. You just have to use it within its limitations.

Great camera, slight learning curve.

Ive had this camera for several weeks now. I love the high quality photos and the nice long zoom(42x). It snaps the photo when I want it to and the only complaint I've had so far is that my Linux based computer doesn't recognise the camera so I've had to remove the SD card to get pictures off it. No issues on windows computers. The only true con is that there is a slight learning curve for anything more than fully auto. Shutter speed, aperture settings and the like are a little confusing at first. Lucky for me my wife took a photography class years ago and was able to give me the basics. This has been agreat camera over all and I'm very happy with the purchase.

Ended up more camera than I expected.

Small & light enough to carry with me all the time. Use it in my travels for still and video. Great zoom makes it great for nature shots. The f3 lense works better than expected for DOF. Very close to a DSLR.

My first Nikon - I'm in love

I've had Fujifilm and Canon SX40 - I think super zoom is one of the most important features on cameras I use. This Nikon does better than my Canon in low light situations. I'm finally able to take pictures of the moon and stars. The first day I tried it out I shot titmouses, chickadees, doves, cardinals and sparrows - without leaving my deck. The battery life has been good (compared to Canon) but I will order extras to use when travelling. I have tried some of the effects and will use them for artistic details. I make my own greeting cards and use my photos for the front of the card - the Nikon photos are really impressive! So all in all, I love this camera.

I love Nikon P510

I wanted to get the Canon 6D for about $1200.0, but decided to get this Nikon P510 instead. This camera is amazing quality and well as the features they have on it. I have no issues to operate this camera and the pixes turned out so beautiful in low light as well. I truely love the ISO and the Pano features that they have those built-in. The ISO can do to HI1 abaout 6400 while the Pano can take pixes at 180 and 360 degrees. To use it effectively, one has to play with its capabilities and this camera beats out the others out there. I gave it a 5 star rating.

Great for both far and near!

This camera is amazing. When using the Macro mode, you can put the lens as close as you can, and get an increedble shot. The only limitation is if you get in your own light! Additionallly, you can take shots at the full looonnnngg zoom without blurring, even without a tripod. I love this camera!
