Bought this camera refurbished and I do like it, but - small thing - but SO irritating, that it didn't come with a lens cap strap ! Called both the seller and NikonUSA, and there are none available. Such a small thing that ruins the customer service for me.

I have owned this camera since June 2015. Have used it under all sorts of situations, bird watching, party pics, videos, etc., great features in all occasions. Within the past 6 months I have had a hard time keeping the battery charged. The last time I used it was yesterday and charged it for 4-5 hours. The battery indicator showed a full charge. I took 4 photos and a 30 sec. video and the battery charge was depleted. Very unhappy! My previous Nikon 990 I purchased in 1992 and to this day will hold a charge for 2-3 days while constantly using it. As a matter of fact I still have the 990 and after about a one hour charge it will still last for days and days if not used. The newer P610 will discharge within 24 hours if not used. Has anyone else experienced this?? I would still however recommend the camera but would let people know the battery only lasts a couple of years.

I've owned the P610 since October 2015 and have found it to be a capable camera in a good variety of circumstances and lighting. (I'm looking forward to doing some outdoor sports photography this spring.) Some of the aspects of the camera that I find useful are: * The 60X zoom lens * The large LCD that tilts and swivels * An electronic viewfinder * Relatively low-noise photos, at least up to ISO 1600 I've printed only a few pictures, but they've all looked good. I suspect that the camera should be good for prints up to 11" x 14", possibly larger. On my 24" LCD TV, all of the photos look good. Nikon doesn't sell the HDMI connecting cable for this camera, but it's well worth having. There's a third-party paperback book on this camera, which is worth examining. I have one and found it to be helpful and more readable than the detailed Nikon reference manual. It's not an inexpensive camera, but it's a good value because of its extensive capabilities.

Manual mode, is not that manual. Iso is limited, you can’t set iso 400 and 15 sec time… And funny thing is that can do 25 sec… but just on timelapse… Software… Manual side focus… useless… When used first you have to select manual focus, press ok etc… Why once asigned can’t be used for speed fine tuning of focus?! Bad software… Wifi… just for android… Good for remote photos, but with very limited options, just zoom option. No video remote recording… Windows , Mac, Linux, wifi… dream on… Software fail… Folders and files saved with numbers, instead of date and time… Software… NR… always on… Why?! Software… On video mode, Flash doesn’t provide a basic light… NIKON… are you afraid not to make this camera to good?! It seems like Nikon do not want to improve it more, just to buy something else… Too bad…

I just received this today, and thought I'd put up some first impressions. I'll try to come back and update this in a couple of weeks. The reason for the first impressions is the great value of this refurb'ed unit. This price is by far the lowest I found for this camera, and it's been refurb'ed by Nikon. If you're seriously considering this camera, think hard before Adorama's stock of refurb'ed units is gone. This camera has a lot of bang for the buck. The zoom reach is incredible, bested by only a couple of other cameras in its class. My experience so far is that it takes good, sharp, useable pics. The vibration reduction is impressive--you can hand-hold even zoomed all the way out, and get fairly sharp shots most of the time. The menu system is pretty straightforward; I was able to use most of it without even opening the manual. Read a full review of this on Photography Blog or Steve's Digicams. I'll just call out a couple of features that I really like. The viewfinder has a sensor--when you bring it to your eye, it automatically switches the screen off and the viewfinder on. This is amazingly convenient. Another feature that I haven't seen anywhere else is a button on the side of the lens that, when pressed, zooms out so you can re-orient your shot, then zooms back to where you were when you release the button. Very cool. As a refurb'ed unit this only comes with a 90 day warranty. However, Adorama offers a 2 year warranty for only $18. If you put that together with the great price of this refurb, you get a camera that is new in all respects, with twice the warranty of new, for a lot less money. I know I sound like a shill for Adorama, but I'm not. I consider this a very nice find.

Why someone would give a bad review to something just because they didn't do their research and fine the camera they wanted to begin with shows that the camera does not have a problem but the user. I purchased this camera as an everyday carry just for off hand shooting of textures, backgrounds and other subject matter that doesn't require my bigger cameras. It is great for that and I would recommend it for anyone who wants to step up from a simple point and shoot. Whats Ironic is that I'm a Canon user. The reason I purchased this camera is mainly because it offers a view finder which you can not find on most bridge or super zoom cameras. I hate trying to focus using the LCD screen. Guess I'm old school with 50+ years most of it looking through the view finders of film cameras.

First off, this camera's size is great for travel or just if you don't want to carry around a lot everywhere. It can easily be mistaken for a small DSLR camera. The photo quality is GREAT. The zoom is GREAT. I use it for amateur photo shoots (of people), to take pictures of nature, even sports! If you use the right settings, this camera is great for sports considering the zoom. It's easy to freeze the moment completely and you will get many crisp pictures (search YouTube for how to take sport pictures) Overall, this has exceeded my expectations. I'm a very novice photographer and this was my first real camera purchase; I couldn't be happier

The good I had my doubts when I first saw how small it was. 3 months of constant use had me wondering how I'd done without it. I adjusted to the size quickly. Macro, telephoto all come out crisp. Controls are easy and intuitive! The bad A problem with battery draining developed and the camera was returned for a new one. The cause is not known at this point!

I just bought this camera a few days ago. My first Nikon camera was a Nikon F, bought in 1963. Thanks to carbon fiber or other modern materials, this camera is lighter and more compact. But it is solidly built and everything moves smoothly, including the 24 to 1440 zoom. While dubious at first, I now find the rechargeable battery to be better than replaceable batteries. The charger is more compact than spare batteries and I don't have to worry about how old the batteries are. This camera has a professional list of features. I find the software easy to use via an easily viewed menu system. I can see that I can either point and shoot or set shutter speed, aperture, etc. as appropriate. I can't think of anything important to me that my older cameras could do that this camera can't do. To me, the viewfinder is the same as viewing the monitor and I was surprised to find that the viewfinder turns on automatically. Earlier, I was used to a SLR and this is about the same. A good viewfinder is very valuable when shooting outside in bright sunlight and for me, it's more stable than holding a camera out in front of me. The diopter adjustment for the viewfinder means I don't need to remove my glasses for a sharp image. A viewfinder like this was a must have feature. Overall, for my use, this is a professional camera.

I own a NIKON 8800 that I bought when I first moved to the desert. I needed something with a sealed system zoom because of the dirt and dust that often blows around here when hiking and taking photos. It's still in great shape and I was reluctant to replace it because it has served me so well ... but I decided to buy the P610 for the updated technology. I knew that there's no shooting in RAW with the P610 and no hot shoe mount like there is on the 8800 but figured I could give that up in return for more megapixels, the better zoom and video features. I just opened the box to my new P610 and my first thought was "It looks and feels like a toy camera." It looks and feels cheap. Tapping around the controls gives you a horrid sort of hollow, fragile plastic sound. The rotary multi selector dial around the OK button feels loose and shabby. You cannot put a UV or clear filter on it to protect the lens like you could on the 8800 and there is no battery charger included with the camera. What you get is an adapter ... you have to put your battery in the camera and plug the camera in to charge your battery. You can buy a charger from Nikon for an extra $49.95. I don't think I'm going to charge the battery and try it out, even. Will pro'bly just put it back in the box and return it right away. It just doesn't have a "solid" feel to it. I'd be afraid to take it out of the house. In my review it asks if I'd recommend this product ... and I answered "NO" ... but I'm very happy with the quality of all other NIKON products I've purchased and used.
