Three repairs on this camera in past 2 years. Camera stopped reading sd card-Nikon repaired. Shutter got stuck, Nikon repaired again. My last issue which has occurred before was the P7000 went to default settings after I recharged the battery. I had to reset the date and all the settings. If I take the battery out and back in after 15 minutes it will be fine. Nikon says the internal battery is not so good for this camera. I will send it in again. Nikon was very good about doing the repairs but the last time they said it was out of warranty and would cost $150 for repair. I complained that when I called and described the problem about the card reader they could have saved me the trouble of sending it in and that I would have to pay for shipping the un-repaired camera back. Fortunately Nikon agreed to repair and send it back at no charge with a 6 mo. extended warranty. The camera takes great pictures when working and has options for great controls and better close ups than my D90. Too bad the camera just will not last much mechanically beyond the 1 year warranty. Be sure to get the US warranty the first camera from Tri-State camera was a European model on their warranty. The replacement was US warranty with Nikon a far better service than Tri-State.

This camera is a portable, robust, and sleek. It is absolutely filled with options and settings to fool around with as well as professional features such as the PSAM modes. The image quality is decent with vibrant colors. 7.1x zoom is more that enough to satisfy anyone. HOWEVER! The entire thing is botched by a sluggish internal computer/firmware or whatever. Everything is quite slow: autofocus, write time, menu navigation, playback, etc. This was very disappointing. The version 1.2 firmware only helped a little bit. Some features are limited as well: only 720p video, 1.3 frame burst (can that even be called a burst?) and changing the ISO is very inconvenient, having to go into the slow, sluggish menu, and then twiddling dial. Not only is the system slow, but it is also glitchy. In the PSAM modes, the aperture and shutter speed dial menus are glitchy, appearing to scroll up when they are scrolling down. It is quite hard to explain but the overall effect of this is a confusing onscreen popup dial which covers 1/3 the screen. Nikon had the right idea but somehow messed it up with the firmware. Perhaps the 7800 is good.

I have only owned Nikons for five decades. I purchased the P7000 when it was first released because of its ability to take RAW/NEF images. Within the constraints of its lens it takes excellent quality images and it has way more features and functions than I will ever use. I am still learning about its many features and it is so handy to use. I process my images in Lightroom and Photoshop and I use onOne, Topaz and NIK software on my Macs. I am always pleased and I am often astonished with the results. I suppose I will upgrade to the newest version of the P7000 series some day - 1080 HD video and Wi-Fi would be nice - but I don't know if I will ever get a 'Big Boy' body/lens again.

After searching and comparing a similar range cameras I chose the Coolpix P7000 because it met all I needed. I live in Colombia and made the purchase by Amazon in July 2013, two months after the camera was damaged, the lens retract stopped and what was my surprise when I answered from Nikon that they could not guarantee that the article came from a market gray. Amazon I finally got back the money, but would not advise anyone to purchase this product.

I purchased this camera to avoid hauling my dSLR everywhere I went. Based on the level of control, it was very good at what I wanted. However, within months the lens cover began to stick and still does to this day (common based on searches of prior reviews). You have to press the sliding portions down with your finger when powering up. Additionally, around one year of ownership, when the battery drops to below half charge, the camera has trouble focusing appropriately (I've had too many fuzzy pictures to count). I love the control this camera provided. Overall, however, I would not have purchased now that time has moved on and its functionality has dropped. This is my 4th (of 5) Nikon camera and the worst of the lot.

It's just a matter of time before this camera's lens cover will stop opening all the way. Search the internet reviews and discussion threads: It happens to everyone. Until Nikon admits that this is a manufacturer error and offers to fix the problem, I have to rate this otherwise great camera as "Poor."

Camera got bumped and LCD display is not working correctly. Local camera shops can't do the repair - simple LCD display replacement - because Nikon won't sell them the part! Nikon wants all repairs sent to their service center. So a simple part replacement which costs under $50 is going to cost between $150 - $200. For that price, you might was well throw away the camera... Because of their repair policy, I do not recommend buying Nikon products.

Never buying Nikon cameras again. Send it for repair 2 times, same problem happened again, The lens stick when open. This is a problem that Nikon denies and tries to just forget about it leaving all buyers of P7000 with no resolution! I will sell my camera on ebay for 50 dlls as a defective one, and buy a Canon G12 or G15.

I bought this camera because it looked like it would take good pictures in low lighting situations which none of my point and shoots seem to be able to handle. It arrived the day I was headed to a party at night so I took it along, I couldn't see anything without my glasses on so I just winged it and left it on auto and got some really nice shots. Imagine what pictures it could take if I could see what I was doing and had time to read the manual.

No one can see the LCDs of digital cameras in bright light so people fly 'blind' as far as composition goes. Just because I'm using an optical viewfinder doesn't mean I don't care about the edges of my pictures. Also, so often the dynamic range is outside the abilities of D-Lighting controls. Same is true for my D7000. Nikon: put in in-camera HDR for the traveler so we can get both the bright cloudy backlighting sky and the Tetons correctly exposed in the same shot. If you'd done that I'd have been the only one of 43 on my tour to be able to take decent photos in difficult lighting.

Using the p7000 gives me the edge over most point and shoot cameras as it does not slow you down while shooting and the delay in focus is minimum unlike most point and shot cameras I would like to see a bit more accessories for this camera to augment the usefulness of the camera itself in the world of photography.

So far I've been very impressed with this camera. I wanted a camera with full manual control and did quite a bit of research before finally settling on this one because it seemed to be just as good as its competitors, but considerably cheaper. I received it with firmware 1.1 already installed, so I don't know how slow it was before. It takes about 5 seconds to write a RAW file, which is the same as my sister's DSLR. With a class 10 memory card, the write speed was cut to 3 seconds. I don't notice a delay when I am shooting. I've found the menus very easy to use and I love all the dials, it's a pain to go racing through menus looking for important settings just before taking a shot and the dials on this camera fix that problem. The video seems adequate and I'm glad the camera doesn't have in-camera HDR because the quality usually isn't the best. The view finder is extremely important in sunny weather, I just have to remember that the last quarter of the picture is missing. It might have been nice to have a rotating LCD screen, but they break easily. The rotating screen on my friend's Canon broke very quickly. All I wanted was a camera that takes very good pictures and is easy to carry around. The Nikon P7000 more than fits the bill!

This Camera is perfect to use when my bigger D80 is unpractical. It takes nice pictures and you have all the adjustments you need. The only problem iI can see (wich I hope Nikon will fix in the future) is that the camera lens cover (curtain) doesent allways open 100%. This problem doesent efect every owner but Ive got it and it is a Waranty case but still irritating. The conlusion is, buy it. its worth the money! I have stopped using the D80 because the P7000 is all you need.

Full featured professional grade tool. If your a beginner just use the auto mode to get great shots. For more advanced shooters this camera really gives some great high quality images. I have enlarged to 16x20 with good results at ISO100. Up to ISO 400 enlargements to 11x14 are stunning. Firmware is alittle quirky and sometimes its like trying to coax a drunk into a taxicab for a ride home.... but once you learn how to get your bracketing and macro modes to work you'll get great results. The qaulity of the images you get out of this little jewel is well worth the effort to work around its issues. I went to a Media Professionals Seminar at the Nelson last night. Greg Gorman was the speaker and presented about 100 of his images. Anyhow, setting up on the stage taking time lapses of the crowd assembling at this Canon sponsored event... was you guessed it... a Nikon P7000. Must have been sort of embarrasing for Canon. Anyhow, this is a great little camera and I see SLR photo's that are not as good as what I get from this camera. Yes for magazine or poster size work its not up to that level but for most everyday street photography this baby rocks.

I love the layout of this camera except that the dials, especially the +-bias dial, should have been made stiffer, as it is too easily rotated going in and out of a bag. You always have to remember to check this dial even when you are in a hurry for your shot. The real problem with this camera is the processing speed — it's a total pig for something that is supposed to be useful for high end photographers. When shooting RAW + Jpeg there is a full 5 second interval between shots while the camera is frozen. Unfortunately, for all the bells and whistles, the slow processing speed makes this camera largely useful only for still photos and snapshots. One of the nice things bout this camera is all the adjustments that you can preset. One of the bad things is that you will need them – I found the quality of the photos shot on Auto with the presets out of the box quite unsatisfactory, especially for landscape scenery. I had a warranty issue with a sticky lens cover after only a few hundred shots. This seems to be a problem with a lot of these compact cameras but my experience is that you usually get a few years out of them before this happens. Unfortunately I was on a mountain trek when this occurred. I don't think I would take the P700 as my sole camera on a multi day trip again.

I got this camera on Christmas and I just fell in love with it.! It is very compact and it is very simple to use. Although it has many buttons and various options just take your time with it. It take amazing sharp crisp images. I am not a photographer but my life is like a photo shoot and I have caught every single moment from breakfast to dinner on by the shore. It is fast, responsive, and unique

I really enjoyed using the P7000 on our vacation, it's a great camera. Below are the primary reasons that I chose it. - I needed a camera that could switch between stills and movies - it had to produce very good quality in both modes - I needed a viewfinder, as I dislike wearing my reading glasses to compose my shots - in movie mode good quality sound is important and the P7000 has a microphone jack - & finally I needed a camera that would allow me to adjust the exposure. After using it on our vacation there were a few features that I would have liked to have had - a screen that rotates for those low & high angle shots, (when I could not use the view finder) - if the Mode Dial had the Auto, Scene & Movie modes side by side, (frustrating when you need to switch quickly, like on a tour bus) - a night mode that would illuminate the control keys (you can't see the Mode Dial settings at night) - the ability to use more than 4GB on a 16GB SD card, (purchased (3) 16GB cards only to discover the camera can only write/format 4GB

I own another Nikon, D50, and I was looking for an everyday lighter camera. The P7000 has most of the features of a larger camera without the bulk or weight. I appars to be a great addition,

The Nikon P7000 is a non-SLR, with both automatic and manual controls, as well as raw output capability. Can't yet judge reliability. Pros: reasonable size, viewfinder, bright screen, flash shoe (and included small flash), easy flash control, focus lock, multiple focus settings (spot to wide). Auto, shutter-preferred, aperature-preferred, and manual exposure capability. Multiple resolutions easily selected. Easy self-timer. The ergonomics are excellent, and the controls quickly become self-evident. There are typically multiple ways of accomplishing most tasks. Good zoom capability, including the ability to confirm focus after a shot. Lens is not a Leica, but is still quite good. Cons: the Raw output on a Sandisk Extreme Pro card (45 MB/s) takes about 2 seconds. Stll, it's worth it to have raw output to process. Only a few accessories are available, but if I wanted many accessories, I would have gotten an SLR.

I have always carried a small point-and-shoot camera with me just in case I come upon that perfect picture. The camera was convenient but I would end up wishing that I had my 35mm camera with me instead. That camera takes much better pictures but who can lug around a huge camera with multiple lenses!! The P7000 is perfect! It does almost as much as my 35mm can and is so small that it's easy to toss in my bag so I can have it "just in case". As a matter of fact, on a recent trip to the zoo (I'm there alot!), there were some pictures that I was not able to get with the 35mm that I could get with the P7000!

Travel and creating portraits are my favorite form of photography. The Nikon coolpix 7000 turned out to be a perfect companion. Quality images, easy to use -(but you must read the manual) light wieght, and durable. Portrait, low light and landscape shooting modes are outstanding. Very happy with my Coolpix 7000.

I purchased this camera so I wouldn't have to lug around my D3s when hiking and for its ability to shoot in RAW format and it serves that purpose well. After only using it for the 4th time, the lens cover began to stick and has to be returned to Nikon for repairs. This is unacceptable and after reading some of the other reviews, it seems to be a design problem that Nikon should have fixed before the camera was released. I really couldn't recommend this camera to a friend at this time.

The P7000 is customizable. The special functions can be used in many user-designated ways, and everything about it--even the sound of the shutter-says "quality." I don't think I will ever need an SLR again.

the features & menu choices are great, but 3 weeks into a 2 month trip in india the lens cover mechanism started sticking & i had to bang the camera each time to get the flanges to fully open. now i have to send the camera to nikon for warrenty servicing. this is not a robust design.

This camera is perfect for someone that wants the quality of a DSLR but a little more compact. All of the features go way beyond anything else for the price. If anything... the HD video camera makes it worth the price.

A fan of Nikon since 1963 (still have my Nikkorex F) and have had too many to count over the years. Mainly SLR's/DSLR's, with a few point & shoots thrown in, but what caught my eye with the P7000 was it's semi-retro look. Reminded me of the Nikon 35mm rangefinders of the late 50's. And boy, what a beauty it turns out to be! Spent a couple of days just test shooting, mainly available light indoor stuff, and the optics are supurb! Enough well-placed controls to minimize the need to return to th...

******************************************************* Would like a new firmware update to include the following two items: 1. Offer the user the ability to change the behavior of the Fn and the AE-L/AF-L buttons. I really don't like "press and hold" to activate or use. It should be press once to activate (similar to the Av/Tv button) and, to deactivate, either take the shot or press again. I own a DSLR and love using exposure lock. I simply hit the button once and then take my time to fram...
