It's a good camera. Too bad the replacement isn't as good, and that this model isn't available anymore.

This purchase of a refirb P7700 was for a friend. I have used my own P7700 for about 4 months, making many very nice images with it. Experienced photogs will find the controls convenient. Newbies may fine them daunting. The camera is capable of very sharp photos at low ISO. The downside is that focus can be slow in some sitautions. (Like most other cameras). Once focused, the lens and small sensor do a heck of a job. RAW or jpeg the images are VG to EXC.

I bought this to use as an everyday street camera and for travel when I don't want to lug around my 35mm and gear. I have mixed feelings about the camera so far. The picture quality is really very good. I like having full control over the settings. I read reviews that said the camera tended to have low write speeds so I bought a 95mb/sec SDHC card for this camera. Burst mode in low takes two shots; quite far apart. Burst mode in medium works as I would expect, contiuous shooting. However, the screen is blacked out during the shooting, so if you are following a moving object that can be a problem. The movie quality is very good with this card. The controls are laid out well; the camera is easy to use and the quality lens has a focal length of 28-200 which is very nice. I really like the articulaing LCD but am still adjusting to not having any optical viewfinder. It is unfortuante that the lens doesn't have a built in lens cap. There are still many features that I haven't had the opportunity to try out yet. Overall, especially for the price, this is a very nice little camera. It shoots in raw, gives me full control over my images and takes very nice photos.

The refurbished camera with the Adorama VIP Protection plan is a great buy. The only difference I could find from a new camera was the box it came in. The arrangement of the control dials is similar to the Nikon DSLRs that I have (D800 and D300). A big reason for choosing this over the Canon G15 is the compatibility of the P7700 with the Nikon flash system and GPS. Optically and from an ergonomics standpoint I'm very happy with the camera. I didn't find the lack of a optical view finder to be a problem. The write speed is slow (about 4 seconds for a raw+JPEG)which isn't a big factor for me in travel situations. All in all I think this is an excellent camera at this price if the processing speed isn't an issue.

I bought this item refurbished. I was a bit disappointed because they didn't put the lenscap on the lens, it was in a separate packaging and the camera itself was in this bubble air bag. When I turned the camera on there is now a tiny blue spot on the upper left area when the camera is used in low light. Probably it is the sensor; happily this spot is not visible on the pictures. Probably I will keep the camera. I don't want to loose money on shipping costs back and forth. Otherwise the camera is highly recommendable, just get a fast SD card to have more operating speed. The high amount of controls makes the usage of this camera a lot more fun than the models where you have to go through the menus if you have to change something.
