Out of the box camera would not take its USB cable. Returned to their captive repair shop with copy of statement showing it was in warranty. They called me, stated not in warranty, needed a new "motherboard". I sent the statement again and they called back, saying the connection would be fixed under warranty. The camera will not connect to computer via wifi or any other way. In spite of a dozen phone calls and emails and searching the web, the only way you can upload photos is via SD card which I find inconvenient although will do it since I am stuck with the camera. My first and last Nikon, browse the web and you will find numerous complaints the same.

I purchased this camera in May 2016. I would say the pictures it takes are sataisfactory for what I want them for. While on an extended trip in June of this year, the lens failed to open giving me a 'lens error'. After repeated tries to get it to operate correctly I gave up and spent the rest of my 5 week trip taking pictures with my phone which I was not happy about. When I contacted Nikon about reparing it they wouldn't even discuss doing it under warranty as it had expired the previous month. To me as a business owner this would have been a 'no brainer' as i will now be looking at other brands to replace this camera that in my mind is sub par as far as quality and durability are concerned. Why would I want to pay you to repair a camera after 13 months of operation? And the estimate to repair is only $50 less than I paid for it. This is my second Nikon camera and will be my last for sure!

Many users have problem with lens cover not opening (check on-line forums). Does not focus well on closeups, even in Macro mode.

When Im in zoom the camera will focus but as soon as I take the picture it automatically goes blurry leaving me with a blurry picture. I have done everything to try to stop this, but it just won't focus, even with the focus feature.

I purchased the S7000 a year ago. I have had focus problems, even with a clean lens. I can re-take the picture and it will be clear and sharp. Currently, after thousands of pictures, it still doesn't focus that well. The zoom in and out does not work properly. The mechanism will lock up, and the subject in the window is jittering. The camera must be turned off and back on. Sometimes this will work. It sounds as though the motor is sticking making such a sound. Otherwise, when new, this camera was great, although there were some focus issues.

Amazing how far this camera can focus and get excellent detailed results with only 125-400 ISO while hand held! Pity that people give this camera a low review for things such as not being able to focus when an experienced photographer knows every camera of every brand has a minimum focusing distance especially when the lens are zoomed in. The detail, color and zoom is outrageous for a camera of this size, weight and portability! "But there's no manual mode!" Yes there is if you consider you can set the ISO to 125 or from a range of 125-400 which produces excellent results! You can also use exposure compensation and the saturation setting to also customize to your taste! "But sometimes the images are too dark or they're too overexposed!" Well it's a camera not a magic wand, you still have to compose your image according to the available light and the settings in the camera, you have to angle the camera and yourself according to the available light. The most expensive and sophisticated cameras still rely on your know how and creativity. No camera will yield perfect results every time but this one comes close! See my samples and thank you Nikon!

I don’t expect the same quality as my D200 or D7000. But I would think this camera would at least be on par with a smart phone…. Very disappointed with this unit.

After purchasing this camera in May, 2015 for an upcoming trip to Italy in fall, I had a problem with lens not retracting while in Italy. I had to use my phone for photos. They repaired it since it was still under warranty. Recently took it on a trip to take photos of my sons wedding...same problem with lens...no photos! Since it is no longer under warranty, they tell me send it for repairs at my cost! Don't know what that cost will be and don't know if I want to spend money on a faulty product.

I purchased this camera for venues where I'm not allowed to take my D7100. The 20X zoom is awesome. Love the wifi and remote control features of this camera. Did have an auto-focus problem that Nikon quickly resolved. I would buy this camera again. Takes good pictures but I haven't scratched the surface of what this camera can do.

The Nikon S7000 is a great camera for close ups and doubles as a great camera for long distance. The wireless WIFI is second to none. It transfers the picture fast.

Purchased S7000 and shortly after warranty camera started to freeze (jam) at times after taking picture. I felt this is a pretty basic flaw in camera. No one in technical support could help me. Until that point Iloved the camera especially Wi Fi feature. I own a great deal of Nikon equipment including a 70s D300 D800. Several flash units and close to a dozen lenses. I hope this is not the beginning of of a service decline. Camera was not expensive and Nikon should have taken a look at camera. I believe I was less than a month past warranty. Wii not buy anything refurbished fro mNikon.

This small camera has photographed Monet's garden in France and The Great Wall of China and still makes amazing photos every day. Highly recommended for a great compact camera.

My previous Nikon Coolpix started having lens failure issues so I bought this camera. I purchased this one due to the huge zoom of 20X. Let me say it lives up to it. I also got another camera about $100 less but zoom was only 5x. I took several pics with both and the decision was clear as to which one I would keep. I love being able to transfer pics to my iphone and can control camera with it-even thought I probably wont. This camera has so many features its ridiculous. I am amazed. I will use it for the outdoors primarily while bike riding taking nature shots. I did take a few evening shots of a group of people and the front ones are lit up but the back ones were dark. I read up on the flash and see there is a night mode and will try again. Of course there will be a learning curve. And I don't expect to be an expert with this camera, but its fun to use and who knows what I may learn along the way as in my younger days I loved playing with my cameras. Some of that feeling has now returned. The size of the camera is also great. It fit perfectly in the case of my prior Nikon. I would leave my Iphone home when biking if it were not for emergency use. But this camera has certainly replaced it in that respect. As I have had the camera for only a few days, I also see leaving my phone home when going to parties and only taking the camera. I must admit I was a little concerned re having rechargeable camera but the battery life is long. I am not sure yet if I will find it necessary to buy a spare yet. At this point, I am sure I will love it in 30 days and not return it. At this price point, it was a little more than I wanted to pay but the zoom really helped me to decide this was the camera for me.

This is the worst camera I've ever owned. There is a consistent black shadow in the lower left corner of every single photo I take with the flash on. The black corner is even bigger on my much loved macro shots. I'm completely unable to use any photos I take when I try to use it for the intended purpose of taking close up shots. This camera to me is worthless. I would not recommend it to anyone.

This camera takes great pictures in high light levels. I am not making a complaint about the known limitations of the device itself. My issue is: that I bought this for macros shots for my jewelry. Every shot shows a huge shadow on the left side of the image from the flash. I have to rotate the camera vertically to take images that require a flash. I am dumbfounded as I have never had this issue with a flash before. I ruled out it being a finger, by using the remote control with my tablet! Is this just a bug? I have included images below which show this happens in every flash shot! Regards, Yvette

I found that the settings for night time or speed just made the pictures come out blurry or dark . There is no good "low light" setting for concerts or parties - It's an OK camera for daylight and if you are taking still life shots -

I purchased this camera after using the S6800 for about 4 years for my jewelry business. I mostly use the macro setting for taking jewelry photos. The quality of photos taken with S7000 were horrendously blurry compared to the S6800. No amount of setting changes would fix it. I searched endlessly on the intranet looking for tips but most articles require a PhD in photography which I don't have the time or patience for-hence the reason why I bought a "point and shoot" camera. I am very disappointed as I have usually been a huge fan of the Nikon brand. I am taking this camera back to the store where I bought it for a refund and will continue to use my S6800 until I find something better.

I bought a Coolpix 2500 years ago, which I've always loved. It still works like new. So when I decided to buy a new camera, I went straight for the Coolpix. I bought my S7000 last December at Costco. After occasional, very light use, the LCD screen went black and the camera would not function. Nikon told me to send it to UnitedElectronicsGroup, which has just informed me that they want $150 to fix the camera. The warranty is worthless. I am so disappointed with Nikon!

I bought this little camera for the ease of carrying and its ability to take long distance shots. I could tuck it into my pocket as I hiked, but could use it quickly as needed to photograph wildlife. The pictures were so good, I had a couple people ask to see my camera. Our shots in Alaska of bear, caribou, moose and even whales are amazing. I was a little disappointed to find it only uses rechargeable batteries because I might not be accessible to power while camping and hiking. I bought an extra battery to have as backup. This worked perfectly. The batteries last a very long time and with the extra one I was never without a working camera. I love this camera.

This S7000 is the 6th Nikon I have owned and it is the worst. The picture quality has always been mixed. Some pictures Ok, others not focused. I was on vacation when the lens cover had problems. It would not open completely, or shut completely. I sent camera to Nikon to repair this and check on the picture quality The camera came back with cover working OK, but still not consistent on picture quality. On a second vacation we tried the camera again. The camera would only take one picture, then freeze. If I took battery out and reseated it, I could take one more picture and had to repeat battery step to take a 3rd. Picture quality was still inconsistent. I just got camera back from Nikon with all repairs "completed". If I take a picture, I have to wait 30-40 seconds for the camera to reset so I can take a second picture. I don't know if quality is better since I am going to quit using this camera and buy another brand. I lost a lot of picture opportunities due to this camera that I will never be able to recreate. Sorry, Nikon. You lost a loyal customer.

I bought this 48 hours before I left on a trip to Botswana and Namibia. I told the salesperson I wanted an idiot proof camera with zoom. I am NOT techie oriented and have no desire to do so (worked with enough hi tech stuff in my job!). He showed me several, I ended up with this one as I liked the size. It really is a very good camera! I I got some incredibly fantastic shots without reading the manual! It "only" has a 20x zoom, but in a vehicle we were always close enough for me to get great closeups. Wish I could post some! Obviously not a camera for a pro photographer, but for someone like me on vacation in a cool place but didn't want to lug lots of equipment, this was perfect!

This highly rated camera was purchased to replace a Sony camera that was 5 years old. We don't have much usage time yet but expect this camera to provide quality pictures, since Nikon rarely fails with their camera lines.

This is the best camera I have had. It is small enough to carry in my purse and the 20X zoom is absolutely great. I can get the pictures I want whenever and wherever I want. It is easier to use than other cameras I have had and seems very logical to me.

Great Camera. Takes sharp pictures, even when zooming in close. Easy to use and understand. The best one I have had. The case that came with it was bigger than I expected, but I appreciated the SD card and cleaning kit. The price was one of the best I could find.

This is the first Nikon I have ever owned. Very Impressed with it! The zoom is Absolutely Stunning, Pictures come out very clear! Some reviews mentioned that "Close up/Focus" isn't good, But if you have it on the proper settings, the close up photos actually come out very nice and clear! "It takes just a second to focus, which is fine" The HD Video is very clear and has amazing sound quality. The Effects/Settings are really useful, and its also really easy to use. "Also, the Macro setting is Amazing" It also manages to take great pictures in low-light as well! I Highly recommend this Camera!

Amazing quality and features in such a small package

I could not believe the quality of photos and videos this camera takes. I takes better pictures than my old DSLR camera. For the price, there is no way you can go wrong. The zoom is fantastic, even once you start getting into the 40x digital zoom (provided you are on a still surface). I would recommend this camera to everyone!
Alot of bang for the buck

I've owned a lot of Nikon equipment over the years, starting with a Nikon FG in 1983 (still own), the first Nikon Coolpix 900, D50, D300, D5100 several Coolpix cameras (900, P100, S9100, 4500). Now I am down to a d5100, the FG, and this one. This is the perfect complement. Let's face it, phone cameras are pretty good these days (just got a Moto Pure X). The DSLR is a little bulky to have with you all around. The S7000 is the perfect in between. It has nice reach, pretty solid resolution and l...

Pull the ultra-slim, ultra-stylish COOLPIX S7000 out of a pocket or purse, zoom in with much more power than you'd expect from such a small camera-20x-and capture beautiful close-ups of distant action. Then use the built-in Wi-Fi and Near Field Communication technology (NFC) to connect to your camera to a compatible smartphone so you can start transferring photos from the Nikon COOLPIX S7000 to your smartphone wirelessly! With Vibration Reduction (VR) keeping your 16-megapixel photos sharp and your Full HD 1080/60i videos steady, Scene Modes for overcoming tricky shooting situations and plenty of creative Image Effects, your photos and videos will be the envy of your friends.
Zoom in close with Dynamic Fine Zoom
Every COOLPIX is designed around a genuine NIKKOR glass lens, the legendary optics that have helped make Nikon famous. The COOLPIX S7000's 20x optical zoom lens goes from wide-angle-great for portraits and landscapes-all the way up to telephoto-great for closeups of sports, concerts, nature and more. When you need even more reach, zoom up to 20x with optical zoom and 40x with Dynamic Fine Zoom, an enhanced digital zoom function that effectively doubles your reach.
Share your photos in a snap-Nikon snapbridge
Nikon snapbridge describes the experience of quickly and easily sending photos wirelessly from your Wi-Fi & NFC enabled COOLPIX S7000 to a compatible smartphone or tablet. Share your great photos on the go, even in remote locations or use a smartphone or tablet to control your camera.
Full HD 1080/60i videos with stereo sound
With the press of a button, the COOLPIX S7000 becomes a high-performance video camera. 4-axis Hybrid Vibration Reduction (VR) helps you shoot stable, smooth videos without a tripod and a built-in stereo mic captures high-fidelity sound. Target Finding AF for accurate, intelligent autofocus
It's frustrating when a smartphone camera focuses on the wrong thing. With COOLPIX S7000, Target Finding AF instantly and accurately determines your intended subject and focuses on it-not on just whatever is closest to the camera. Catch the shot you want on the first try. No more out of focus shots or the frustration of trying to get the camera to focus on the right thing.
Flatter your friends and family
Create beautiful photos of the people you care about. Smart Portrait System activates several features ideal for portraits, like Face Priority AF, Skin Softening, Blink Warning and more.
Turn the ordinary into extraordinary

Focus where you want it
Kids and pets are always on the go. Fortunately, the COOLPIX S7000 includes Subject Tracking, which automatically locks onto a moving subject and helps keep it in focus until you're ready to take the shot.
Don't sweat a little camera shake
Lens-shift VR Vibration Reduction keeps the shot steadier, even if your hands are not. Say goodbye to blurry photos, shaky videos and tripods.
