I loved this camera and took lots of great pictures with it for just under a year... then it broke. Over the next three months I battled to get it repaired under warranty. I finally received my repaired camera, and within a month it was back at the repair shop for a warranty re-repair. Then just under six months later, it was back at the shop for a warranty re-repair. Then just under six months later it was back at the shop for a warranty re-repair. There seems to be a trend here. Whenever I have had my camera, I have really liked it and it takes great pictures. I just wish I could have my camera at home to use more often! The persistent problem is that the screen goes black. The camera seems to turn on, but the LCD screen never illuminates. Each time the repair shop has said they replaced the lens? Either they are fixing the wrong thing, or they keep putting faulty parts in it. I am still hoping to get my camera back from the re-repair and have it really fixed this time....

Purchased it on 9/18/2012 had to have it repaired on 9/19/2013 because it would not open and stay open to take photos. Now it has to be repaired again because it will not work at all and it will not charge..I would not recommend this camera Coolpix S8200.

Excellent Zoom Range for taking still photos, and excellent sound and quality for video recording.

Nice sharp lens - very versatile (very good macro), zoom control quite smooth. Screen is big and bright and controls are simple to read. Heavier than it looks! (A neck strap would be better than wrist strap)

Very versatile compact travel zoom that takes great pictures for a compact. I purchased a refurbished and it looks like new.

Very versatile camera with a lot of options and surprisingly good at full zoom hand-held - so if you like to take landscape and wildlife photos and want a pocket camera that can do that well, this is a good one! Lots of scene modes and options for things like HDR, night portrait, sunset/dusk, panoramic, etc.

A step up from other Coolpix, with selector dial on top. 16 megapixel and 14 X zoom make great shots possible. The body has a rubberized feel on the front for good gripping. Compactness for wearing on your belt. Versatility in a compact size. Have ordered 16 refurbished Coolpix cameras from Adorama during the last 5 years, for friends, neighbors and relatives. All excellent quality.

High optical and 16 megapixel, with 3 inch monitor is a winner right there. The scenes, and continuous shooting work for me. Just shot Saratoga Travers Horse Race...very cool ! Cropping is great during review of shots. Very good battery power. This model rounds out my collection of six Coolpix cameras.

I received this camera for Christmas. I used it during the holidays; tried to charge it and the battery would not take a charge. So I ordered a new battery, not wanting to be put off. Put the new battery in, charged it, and it works....but only for a short time. Tried to charge the new battery and it won't turn on or do anything after charging for several days. I tried to turn on the camera each day. I am very disappointed, as my husband read lots of reviews and felt this would be the best camera for what I wanted. I wanted a camera that was rechargeable and would work every time. I am very disappointed.

I use this for all my picture taking. I've taken it skiing and on a trip to Scotland. Takes great HD video. Wish I could edit the video in the camera though.

This camera was a gift so we could take photos of our newborn son. About a year later, I am ready to report. There is great picture clarity, it is easy to use. I appreciate the powerful flash, but it irreparably washes out people from even a fair distance. Also, i have had to send it back to repair a lense error 2 times in less than 1 year. I have had many digital cameras with a telescoping lens, I have never had issues with this before.

I purchased this camera because of its 14x optical zoom and 16 mPixels. It replaced my prior digital "point and shoot" that had only 5x optical zoom. I used to shoot with a SLR back in the old film days and got tired of hauling it around when I do outdoor stuff - which is how I mostly use my camera. So have used a series of "point and shoot" cameras, initially film based, then digital. This one is more compact that my former 5x zoom camera and even fits into my jeans pocket when hiking. I took this to Alaska and got some fantastic shots using the zoom. Far better than my former 5x optical zoom. I was worried about getting a camera without a viewfinder, since I needed it often with my former camera because the LCD screen was difficult to see outdoors. Not so with this one. Even in really bright sunlight, I can see the image on the LCD screen. OK, sometimes I sort of have to shield it with my hand if the sun is shining directly on the screen. I like the many different settings - not only the "scene selector" options, but that you can change numerous other settings, such as white balance, metering, area of focus, etc. It does NOT have "shutter priority" or "aperture priority" settings, but there are so many other ways to achieve the same thing, it is not needed and the camera computer probably does a better job anyway!! But the lack of "aperture priorty" does limit a bit the ability to adjust the depth of field in macro shots. But I still got some fantastic macro shots using the camera's macro setting. I have yet to use all the different settings, but have played around with some, such as the "Pet Portrait" which is kind of cool, and "Night Landscape" - great night shots without a tripod!! Overall, I am very pleased with this camera.

After some extensive research I purchased this camera as a back-up to my D80 after I wore out my CoolPix S550. I ordered a red one so it wouldn't get lost in a sea of black in my camera case. I love this camera! The colors scream and I really like the ability to adjust color vividness/saturation and hue in a sliding scale, instead of just on or off. The fact that it has an HDR setting hidden in the menu was a real surprise. I haven't tried it yet, but I will as soon as an opportunity arises. I also like the different pre-sets that this model has over the S550. Its ability to focus in low light is super; far and away better than my old S550. I shot all weekend [200+ photos] and the battery still indicates a full charge. The range of the zoom is phenomenal for a pocket camera and the anti-shake works VERY well, even in low light. The flash popping up under your left index finger is a bit disconcerting, but it's nothing more than retraining your left hand to hold the camera differently in low light; I'm already getting better at it. I wish you could put the flash back down without turning the camera off, but that really isn't a 'put off' for me. I also wish the matrix metering would work in 'scenes' mode, but that's probably asking too much for this type of camera. I like the fact that the lowest ISO is 100; the S550 was 64 but this is close enough. I shoot more low ISO shots than high because of the finer grain, so that was a serious consideration. The plethora of white balance settings was another major consideration that lifted this camera above the Panasonic model I was also considering at the time of purchase.

Love NIKON this is my 3rd camera, takes great pics, easy to use..compact The flash is in the wrong place, there is really only 1 way to hold the camera and the fingers get in the way, this is just a bad design, otherwise does a great job, next purchase for me will be NikonL810!

This is my 4th Nikon Coolpix but this model works great takes great pic,and is compact but the flash is not in the right place..it pops up and my fingers need to be in that place to hold the camera.. Try to bring the camera back but I was pass my 14 days...It looks like the coolpix 9200 has the flash in the middle...guess I was out of luck on this one!!

Just got this and super fun exploring the all the functions this camera has to offer. I pretty new at being creative. I find that this camera is easy to use even with out going to the manual. I would highly recommend this camera for anyone wishing to take more than just snapping photo's of family and friends.

Bought this camera for my wife for Christmas, and it has worked intermittently. In other words, except for the first few months, sometimes the camera would power up, sometimes it wouldn't. Finally, it ceased to power up completely, and now has to be sent back to Nikon for repair, as Costco will not take it back since it is over the 90 day electronics return window. It takes nice pictures, when it works, and that's not very often. I would not buy this camera again.

I have owned several Nikon cameras, both point and shoots and DSLRs, but this has been the biggest mistake in a Nikon purchase for me. The flash is in an awkward place, but that is normal for the Nikon point and shoots; the fact that it cannot be closed manually after a picture is taken, is ridiculous. You have to actually turn the camera off and then back on to take another picture, unless you are still wanting to use the flash. This defect should never have passed Nikon's quality testing. If there were to be a recall for this product, I'd be the first to send it back! Just this fact alone has made me just put the camera in the box and put it away. The 8100 is far superior to the 8200.

I bought this camera looking for a nice compact camera that was a little better than a point and shoot. While it has no manual mode like i would have hoped for it did have a lot of cool features. The camera is lightweight and comfortable to hold. I enjoyed that the "click wheel" could also be spun around, making it easy to go through large amounts of photos and change features easily. PROS: -Nice screen resolution and easy to navigate -High detail in macro mode -Average zoom -Lightweight -Fast start-up -"Artsy" effects such as color selector(choose one color and have the rest of the picture appear in black & white) and soft during shooting : effects like miniature and fisheye after shooting -Great camera for the price CONS: -No manual mode -Flash is in an awkward location and can't be put down without being turned off and on again

Great, user friendly camera. Have to really try hard to get bad results. Best low light and back light performance ever experienced. Only complaint: LCD screen scratches easily....plan on using a screen protector if you carry camera in your pocket or glove box

I bought this camera mainly for it's low-light ability and it's big zoom lens. I was not disappointed. Compact cameras I have had in the past drove me crazy with redeye issues. With this camera, most of the time you don't even need to use the flash. And when you do, there is a redeye reduction mode that gets rid of the redeye electronically instead of flashing an annoying red light to close the subject's pupils. And even in full flash mode I have not taken a single redeye picture yet. I am amazed by those who complain about where the flash is located and someone even suggested they put the flash on the front of the body. You have to realize that the farther the flash is from the lens, the less likely you are to get redeye pictures. And in this camera, the flash is located about as far from the lens as possible.

Bought this point and shoot camera as a back-up camera on days when I don't carry my DSLR camera and also on vacation. Great images from the start but when my wife got hold of it, she wouldn't let me have it anymore. She's using it to record high definition video of our trips. Great images on the screen. The only drawback is the lack of an external charger to charge the battery when carrying two or more batteries. Charger needed asap Nikon!!! Hear this?

The S8200 has great features and excellent photo quality, BUT, it has one fatal flaw: it lacks a viewfinder! This makes it almost unusable in bright sunlight, since you cannot see your subject on the screen. With the sun behind you, you are basically shooting "blind", often missing the subject and always out of focus. With the addition of a viewfinder, this camera would be a sure winner; without a viewfinder, it is close to useless for an outdoor photographer.

I searched high and low before purchasing a new camera. I did not want to spend the money for a huge slr camera, but I wanted to take indoor volleyball pictures of my teenage daughters. I can put this camera on ISO 3200 and get great action shots. This works better than the sports setting on the camera. All the regular photos are just a bonus to this camera. I love it, and do not regreat my purchase one bit. And others are slightly jelous of my pictures, and the fact my camera fits in my pocket!

since i started photography, i've been using canon.and a friend just came and told me that he had a better camera than mine, at first i was skeptical. he was so persistent that i gave in, i tried it for a week and i cant help notice the big difference. i realized that i've been paying a lot for a canon dslr when i can take the same kind of pictures with nikon s8200. what matters to me, is the clarity of every pictures i take..it felt like taking pictures with my own eyes.. i would definitely recommend this camera

I was using Sony till now, i thought of trying something different this time and it is Nikon. it proved to be a good camera with all good and latest features. so far no complains only the thing i am not habituated to is popping up of flash ;) also you have to press start button 2 times in order to start the camera, i hope/believe that this is Nikon's unique feature ;)
The Nikon COOLPIX S8200 Digital Camera puts ease-of-use and a remarkable 16.1Mp CMOS sensor at your fingertips. This marriage of simplicity and an impressive number of pixels gives you multiple options when it comes to documenting the moments of your life. From carrying the camera everywhere you go, so you're ready when the moment strikes, to capturing incredibly detailed images that are ready to be turned into mural-sized works of art, the S8200 gives you the best of both worlds.
The camera also boasts a 14x Optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens with a 25-350mm (35mm equivalent) focal range. That means you can shoot everything from close-up groups to far-off vistas and everything in-between. The 4-Way Image Stabilization system works to eliminate camera shake for clear images with optical VR, Motion Detection, Best Shot Selector and High ISO options. In addition, the 3.0" LCD monitor with Nikon's Clear Color display and anti-reflective coating makes for hassle-free composition and review of all your images.
Along with capturing high-res photos the S8200 also records 1080p high definition video with stereo sound. Upon playback on the big screen (AKA: your HDTV), your memories will both look and sound great. While shooting, the camera gives you the option of using a one touch record button for starting and stopping video capture, allowing you to catch the moment, instead of missing it because you're navigating through the menu.
While the S8200 might be considered a point-and-shoot it definitely offers you a number of options for putting your own mark on things. In-camera effects let you add special masks or filters to your images to evoke a certain look or feel. Smile timer automatically captures a smile, continuous shooting lets you capture up to 5 shots in a second and Pre-Shooting enables recording of images just before the shutter is released. These, along with the other numerous shooting modes, guarantee a user-friendly yet creative way to capture the world around you.
