Got this camera before going on a 2 year trip expecting it would be an excellent investment that would last me these next 2 years and thousands of photos. However less than a year in and this camera has terrible power issues. Sent it in twice to get repaired before it finally seemed to have the issue resolved and I discovered others have had similar issues with the type of battery used for this model and other models. The pictures are great quality but not my wildest dreams or anything. The protective case it came with also was a disappointment as I took my camera out and found the screen cracked. I would definitely look elsewhere to see what other options are available if this is in your price range. Something more dependable and higher quality is probably available. Still love Nikon cameras though.

Good camera, but could be more impressed.

I spent hours researching and obsessing about a quality pocket camera on the internet. The Nikon S9500 had the best features, best reviews, best of everything including price. I have taken so many awesome photos with this handy camera. 22X zoom is awesome.

Best Point and Shoot for the money

Good little camera, not very user friendly however. Still not able to get the WI-Fi set up. Unsure if just my camera since was a refurbished model.

Nice Small Camera

My COOLPIX S9500 has been doing a fine job recording my travels around the world. It's small sizes makes it easy to cary anywhere.

I bought a coolpix nikon s9500 in january and i went to a concert lately and realise that it keep freazing and overheat! Im i the only one who it happened or i was just not lucky and took one that was broken ?

Camera keep freazing and overheat

I've had this camera for a little over 90 days and was purchased at Costco. It takes very nice pictures with a clean slick look but after a few uses the shutter in the lens got stuck. And now when I turn the camera on the shutter does not completely open leaving the photos only taking half the shot the other half is black by the shutter. I'm currently under warranty but sending your camera back for repairs is a lot more troublesome then I expected. Haven't completed the process so I will update review as soon as I receive my hopefully fully repaired camera back.

Shutter got stuck

I have just purchased a Coolpix S9500 and I find the time between taking a photo and the time that the camera is ready to take another, seems to be a long one. Can anyone advise on this please. I am currently using Auto mode.

Time between Pics

I bought this camera for a trip to Tanzania and the Serengeti without knowing anything about it. I was thrilled with the pictures I captured, often from a moving vehicle. The videos were also wonderful. I will treasure these pictures for a lifetime. The camera is light, compact, and sooooooo easy to use, even for a novice. The pictures are clear and when enlarged are so clear that eyelashes can be seen on the giraffe and the fur and spots on a cheeta come into view. Did I say I was Happy?

This is my second coolpix camera. I never had a problem with the last one. This one has frozen on me 3 times during the first month of ownership. I have had to remove the battery each time

Freezes

The camera was already set up with someone else's pictures and settings loaded. May have been used already. Waited two months to receive as it was backordered that long. The description should be more explicit that you have to buy an additional card to wifi load pictures to a standard computer. The installed Wi-Fi only works for ipads and smart phones. Had to purchase a eye-fi card to load pictures to my computer. Other than that it takes a really good picture. I wouldn't recommend it due to the inability to receive when you want it.

Ordered new camera and came apparently used

This camera does not come with a dock. If left unplugged, the battery drains in a couple of days. The manual says not to leave fully charged battery plugged in. I do not handle my camera everyday. It is very annoying to pick it up and it be inoperable because of discharged battery.

Lot of features. If you can't afford to take along your full size SLR due to space or weight this camera will get the job done. Many features found only on bigger cameras. Great telephoto zoom lens. The zoom range is 22X optically which is much better than other cameras that pretend to have a zoom but it is nothing more than digital cropping.

With a camera this small you don't have to take bad pictures with your cell phone. No reason to leave this one home.

The bad on this is that the flash is pretty weak and pops up where you would naturally hold the camera...but it is still a better flash than what you have with a cell phone camera.

What a great little camera!

I have used Nikon for years like the S2 & D70 with great success. I purchased the S9500 and it is the best small camera I have seen to date. Even though I adjusted the color to be a little more vivid the pictures are outstanding. The scene dial on top makes changes easy and the Wifi is out of this world. To download to my smartphone with no cables is great. I love that you can put the camera anywhere and control it remotely by your smartphone. The 22x zoom lens is excellent. The GPS is a bonus. When you pickup the S9500 you can feel the quality with a metal body. Most small cameras are cheap plastic .The best of all is when I shut off the flash and shot in the evening when the light is low, the pictures are still great. Nikon keep it up, to me you are still truly the best.

Excellent camera for the money.....

Don't like the location of the flash. Pictures are clear so far.

Just purchased

For the price that I paid it should take photos with no exposure problems. I get about 10%of my indoor photos washed out with the flash and I had a system crash (not turning off, not turning on, etc.) I sent it in for repair... they said several parts were replaced and I STILL have the same exposure problem (it seems even worse now). The camera did this with auto and fill flash. I also use an 'approved' SD card. I would NOT recommend this at all.

I do semi-pro photography and have been happy with my D300s and D800e, but this is not worth half of the money that I paid for it.

Great Zoom. Used it for the first time today. I was told by Dodd Camera that it would be even better than the camera that I was replacing. (I dropped it when the lens was extended.) They were right.

Clear, crisp pictures

I'm 66, and have been "Nikon" for just over 50 years. My prime camera is a D5100 (shortly to be a D5300 - would buy the D800 but it's too heavy and I don't need 40 x 60 blowups or make pro movies!

The S9500 is an amazing camera. If you take the time (highly recommended) to really read through the complete manual (on the DVD not the "short" user guide) and practice going through the menus, you have a semi-pro camera that will produce very high quality pictures that you can blow up to 11x14 or even 16x20 (if you got lighting, focus, and exposure spot on). My only issue is a ton of noise on video in low light conditions. You can adjust for exposure and color balance in post, but it can't touch video that has been taken with a larger sensor.

Check out and compare the specs to this and most other Coolpix cameras (at any price). You will see that this is virtually the top of the line.

Amazing "walk around" camera

I really liked the features that the 9500 offered - I replaced my 9100 with this camera to get a longer lens, better resolutioin, and the GPS / Wifi features are excellent.

I had this camera for only 1 month - we took it hiking into Yosemite National Park. The camera took wonderful pictures, until it bumped into a railing and refused to work.

The camera was sent back to Nikon who determined that it was owner damaged, and therefore not elegible for warentee service. It would cost ($) for them to fix it, and ($) for a brand new camera.

This is the 4th Coolpix I've owned, and have been happy with all except this one - it's too fragile for use! If one need to keep the camera cloistered, what's the point??

I'll be going back to the 9100 which seems to have been made more durable.

VERY Fragile

I had few of those Nikon cameras in the past (previous models) and comparing to other cameras on the market - this one takes the best pictures ever! I had to exchange this camera, though, it was freezing every 10-20 pictures and the only way to make it work again was to take the battery out and put it back in. Unfortunately. Hopefully this one will work just fine. I love it! Best compact size camera! And great video quality - just like professional video camera: 1080p, full HD movie. Build GPS, WiFi ans 22 x optical zoom makes it more than just a camera :-D

Exellent Camera!

The camera is easy to use and also has lost of photo modes. The optical zoom is also very nice, 22x.

Awesome compact camera

Camera seems easy to use, good zoom capability, megapixels and speed of turning on and shooting photos. Only inconvenience is the pop up flash. Generally I hold the camera with two hands and the left hand fingers rest on top of the flash pop up. Need to be aware of this in taking indoor photos.

camera kept locking up... only way to resolve was to take battery out and put it back in...returning camera....

Wonderful camera...I didn't take the time to register my Coolpix S9500 before I snapped 700 photos in 7 countries in Europe. Wasn't I just shocked when I returned home to learn that the geomapping information won't be printed on my photos! Ergo, a memory challenge. The camera is a smaller version of last year's model. It's lighter weight and unnecessary lens cap make it ever so convenient. Great quality photos, too! The "smart portrait" feature is fun. When the subject is smiling with open eyes, the camera can automatically shoot the photo. I tricked a friend and she was in hysterics wondering what was happening when she hadn't touched the shutter-release button. Cheese!

Remember to register the camera to enable GPS-Geomapping

I like the camera but not the video function. As the lens moves in and out it makes a terrible buzzing noise. It's not noticeable until you go to watch the video and then... it sounds like a buzz saw. I went to the camera shop & they said it is what it is. I looked online and found LOTS of people have the same issue. Lots of potential solutions, none work. So..great stills but don't get this for the video function.

Great pictures, but.....

Great camera for travel. Light, good images. The long zoom is very useful. Wish it had more accessible manual controls, but I'm sure it would sacrifice the size advantage.

Great travel camera

I now have over 500 shots into this camera and I am reducing my rating to 2.5, here is why.

Three issues have cropped up in all my shooting that really get on my nerves.

1. The white balance in this camera is absolutely abysmal. AWB rarely works and even setting the white balance in camera to "daylight" or whathaveyou does little to help get properly balanced photos right out of the camera. I can use ACR to fix this most of the time, but I wanted this camera to be quick and easy.

2. Way over-processed images. The images out of this camera can be so over processed that they look like over-done HDR with halos around subjects and they are over-pixellated even with a minor crop.

3. It isn't the best built camera I've ever had. I've had the lens get stuck trying to pull back into the body several times now as well as having the auto-lens cap get stuck 1/2 way open a few times.

The only reason (and I mean only) I will keep this camera is the long zoom lens, because even a bad shot is better than no shot at all! But for times I don't need the zoom, I'll probably go back to my p300.
