Small but a big zoom lens

Last summer I traveled with my DSLR, which soon got heavy and cumbersome. As a result I shot many photos using my IPhone 5s. WIth an 8x zoom,on the phone, I could not get close enough for some of th ephotos I wanted, so for this summer's trip I read reviews and chose the 9700 as my travel camera. I have not used it on a long trip yet, but have used it around home. It is simple to use nd the 30 X zoom does get you much closer than a phone camera. It is light weight and can fit into a pocket. I was hoping to find a camera that used double A batteries, which this camera does not. Instead there is a LI-On rechargeable battery. From past experience, I have purchased an additional battery and external battery charger to travel with. At the end of summer I will edit this review and let you know how the camera behaved. Delivery was quick and the packaging protective. There is a 90 day warranty from Nikon. I have owned 3 other Nikons over many years and found their lenses to be sharper and accurate.

The Nikon Coolpix S9700 Digital Camera (Black) is a compact point-and-shoot camera with a 16MP CMOS image sensor and a 30x optical zoom NIKKOR ED VR 4.5-135mm f3.7/6.4 lens with a 35mm equivalent of 25-750mm. The lens features Vibration Reduction to reduce the effects of camera shake at longer focal lengths and slower shutter speeds. The camera is capable of capturing stills as well as high definition 1920 x 1080 video with stereo sound. Additionally, the camera features a built-in GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity as well as a pop-up flash for illumination in low-light scenarios.

For times when you need more reach, the Dynamic Fine Zoom provides an enhanced digital zoom function that doubles your zoom to 60x. The S9700 even works with Nikon's mobile app, allowing for immediate review on your compatible Smartphone or tablet for almost instant sharing. And, with the built-in GPS you can view where your images were taken on Google Maps and other websites.
