Questions & Answers

Shopper : How many shutter releases does this camera have ?SHARYN G : The camera has 2 releases. The manual one on top of the camera and the connector for a remote release on the front. You may purchase a remote release from Nikon or save a lot of money by purchasing one from another maker, like Adorama.Vernetta T : The camera has only one shutter release. If you add a battery grip the camera will have 2 shutter releases.LARRY HAWLEY P : One, it's electronic and must be purchased as an accessory. It works very well.JIM G : Actually, I have two D 300's and use them daily. I do forensic engineering and need a good close-up lens (AF-S Micro 60mm 1:2.8 - The second camera has a full range lens (NIKKOR 18-200 mm 3.5-5.6- Often times, I am in difficult weather conditions and cannot be changing lenses in dust or in rain; therefore, these lenses are normally kept on the 2 cameras. Really good cameras. Each of the 3 listed releases have numerous options. #1 Shutter Release is on top of the camera right side. #2 Shutter Release is commonly called "Self Timer" #3 Shutter Release is a "Remote Release" The remote release has 10 pins and comes in about a 2 to 3 ft length. There are at lease two models of this release- maybe more.JEFFREY P : I am not sure. I do not have that model, upgraded beginning of the year.
Shopper : Is this a used camera?SHARYN G : Yes, this is a used camera. I bought my first Nikon DSLR about 6 years ago and paid the retail price. By the time I was ready for my D300, I'd been a member of camera clubs for several years and learned that many experienced photographers by used equipment, providing it has been refurbished by the manufacturer and you're buying from a reputable source, which Adorama is. When I'm ready for my next camera and lenses, I plan to check Adorama for used equipment.JOHN L : Yes it was a "used" camera that i purchased but was in brand new condition. Typically a refurbished item had some small problem with it so it was sent back to NIKON for repair making it better than new. I usually purchase "refurbished" items when possible to save some money and to get a product with all of the bugs worked out of it. The camer I purchased has worked flawlessly and couldnt be happier with it.JUDITH C : This is a used camera, but sold after it has been "refurbished" by the manufacturer. I bought mine in 2007, I think. I have taken ten thousand plus photos with the camera in that time (hard to believe, and I kept only a fraction of them). It has performed like new, and I use it with a 400 mm lens for bird photography, demanding for the camera functions. I would recommend the camera.KERRY S : My understanding is that Nikon refurbished cameras are demonstratror's from camera shops with limited usage that are checked out and repackaged. I can't say for sure that privately owned cameras cannot get into the system, but I see no economic reason for Nikon to do so. The risk is simply greater than the gain. The refurbished D300 I received had extremely low usage, a few hundred actuations, and was for all purposes a new camera. The battery however failed immediately, and was replaced by Adorama with no trouble. I suspect it was a matter of not being regularly charged, and the camera may have been left with the battery in it on display. I was very happy with my D300 and have not hesitated to purchase other Nikon refurbished items, such as flashes and lenses with no other trouble.DEMETRIOUS S : Yes, it is a used camera and after 2 days of using the camera, it completely stopped working. I acted as if it did not even have a battery. It went completely blank. I looked it up on the internet and found that was not unusual. I sent it back and the company gave me a store credit. I purchased the D7000. The specs were better and it been a great camera to use.JIM G : I bought two D 300's and both of them were "Refurbished". They appeared to me to be actually new cameras. I use both of them daily. JimANDREW C : It's odd that Adorama would refer such a question to customers, but here goes. "Refurbished" generally means "returned as defective while still under warranty, then repaired by Nikon and then offered for sale." So yes, sort of. Refurbished cameras usually have the same full manufacturer's warranty as completely new cameras. I shot with a refurbished D300 for about two years before trading up to a D7000. I was very pleased with the refurbished D300.BING D : Likely used. Probably not much usage and likely exchanged for a new unit at the time. I purchased a refurbished D300 from Adorama in February 2009; and it appeared as new, was guaranteed as new, and has performed flawlessly over fairly heavy usage. If you've been shooting with the prior D200 model, there is a dramatic, improved difference in the D300 in both color rendering and at iso settings above 200.JOEL B : Well, it's kind of used. It may have been a display model or returned. The key is that it has been refurbished and checked by Nikon to basically bring it to the equivalent 'new' condition. This is what I bought, and have had absolutely zero issues with the camera. I might not have been the first person to touch my camera. It was in mint condition out of the box and I could not tell that it wasn't 'new'. When I bought my D300, it was ~$500 difference from new. Since it's been checked by Nikon, it still carries a warranty, I think. Joel
HUY N : Hi, How many actuation on this refurbished Nikon D300 camera?ANDREW C : Like the others who have answered, I don't know how many there were on my refurbished D300. I sold it after owning it or two years, so I can't find out for you. All I can report is that it worked as well as a brand new camera. Never had any problems with it.GEOFFREY M : hi i think your asking about how many moving parts? if so... i dont have an exact number, but i will say the D-300's thumb toggle and other buttons have a better construction then the D-700. the moving parts where the memory card slot is and battery have a nice solid design.BING D : I didn't know how many actuations were on the refurbished camera when I purchased it, but have actuated the shutter about 4,000 times since purchasing the camera withiout any issue.ANDRE S : Mine had maybe 3,000 I think. Great value. I'll always go refurbished on camera bodies after the last buy.SHALANAH B : Sorry, I wouldn't know for your purchase. This would be a question for Adorama. I have been using my refurbished D300 for a year or two and it works like a charm. I love it. The condition mine came in was excellent.

Somewhat disappointed, but it works fine.

This camera looks to be in great shape, however the shutter count is well over 100K actuations. I would have not purchased it knowing the shutter count. However it works fine but I now know it functional life is reduced significantly. Next time I purchase a camera from them I will inquire as to it's shutter count as it's important!

Still Great!!!

I have always wanted one of these but, they were always out of my price range. Well, this past summer I found a used but, new condition D300 for a fraction of their mew selling price (mine was under $300) and when i saw it, I jumped on it. Fast Forward 6 months and, what I purchased as a backup body has become my primary workhorse. After 11 years, this camera has still got it. I am very impressed with the overall performance and, particularly, surprised by the high ISO performance. I have shot gorgeous images at ISO 1600 and have not had the need to go any higher yet. The viewfinder is gorgeous, as is the rear LCD. The frame advance speeds are impressive and the camera is built like a tank. There is no doubt that I am holding a quality piece of gear here. Unlike many people, I like a hefty feeling camera body. The learning curve is not as difficult as one might expect from a pro;level body. I was more than comfortable with it within a half hour or so in the field, since many of the controls are accessed b knobs and buttons, rather than being menu driven. So, for an 111 year old camera, the D300 still delivers impressive image quality and, these days, can be had for a song. I am looking for another one and do not plan on moving to full frame anytime soon. I do not think Nikon makes a better DX camera for what one can get this one for.

Completamente recomendable.

Honestly the best for me

First off I have been hooked on Nikon's since I bought an EM when I was in high school new on layaway.I had to walk right passed The Camera House in Joliet Il. after school and remember seeing that sitting on display. Yes it was a bare bones model but you have to start somewhere, this was '77 . Well I moved to FE, F 2 w/ md and extended magazine. Still have my old 300 mm f.2.5 ,50 mm f 1.2 ,135 f 2.0 . Now I have gone through d 40,50,60,70,90,3100 and 5100. Now I have the camera I will keep forever. This with battery grip is so much like the F 2 big burly and heavy. Don't want little lightweight consumer grade camera. That's what all the previous felt like. And since I know how to turn a focus ring and use manual mode , I can use older lenses and few newer ones . Will watch for D 600 to come on at good price then be set.

Exceptional Build and Speed

The Nikon D300 is rock solid, very responsive, and provides a "DX" format 50% extra focal length reach when needed. When used with a Nikon MB-D10 vertical battery grip and Nikon EN-EL4a battery, the camera executes eight frames per second for demanding action situations. The six photos below were taken with the Nikon 18-300mm DX zoom lens at eight frames per second. This equipment combination of reliability, speed, and extreme focal length (450mm equivalent) is exactly what is needed when photographing Mexican folk dancing.

A major workhorse

This D300 has been the best camera I have ever owned. It has been all around the world with us and it is still going strong. I have well over 500,000 to a 1,000,000 photos taken with this camera and it's still working great. Just purchased a D7100 but because of the Compact Flash Card the D300 is still much faster with the same quality!

DON'T RECOMMAND

I HAVE PURCHASED THIS CAMERA BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE AS EXPECTED, HE HAD A CIRCUIT MAIN MEMORY CARD PROBLEM THEN A PROBLEM OF CIRCUIT CAMERA EVEN THEN I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO CHANGE THE SHUTTER. ALTHOUGH I HAVE REPAIRED BY AN EXPERT NOW IT SHOWS A NIKON D3 SHOWS AN ERROR THAT I CAN NOT DETECT. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THIS PRODUCT IF IT IS ALREADY USE EXCEPT FOR SPARE PARTS AND ENSURE THEY HAVE A TECHNICIAN LOOK GOOD AS IT TRACKS ON THE UNIT IS NOT GOOD GROUND IN THE UNIT THAT INSTALLING OUR CURRENT STATIC POPS VARIOUS BOARD OF UNIT I WENT THREE MATCHES NIKON D3 WHICH SERVE ME ANYTHING TODAY.

5 years of excellent family and travel pictures

Bought the D300 (my first digital DSLR) in December 2008. Europe travel and family pictures have always been excellent; don't own nor use Photoshop or any equivalent--the D300 does it all.

Im very happy with the purchase and knowing that i have Adorama's guarantee

I was in the market for a D300 and saw one on Adorama for $. Called them up and they said they have two and one was in excellent shape. I was worried about not knowing the shutter count at the time of purchase but it turned out to have just over 20k clicks which i was very happy about. This body looks brand new, no scratches anywhere and the accessories looked unused. Im very happy with the purchase and knowing that i have Adorama's guarantee (2 year protection plan) if anything goes wrong. I will shop with them again.

Great camera for the price

I'd been hoping to purchase this model before, but always just missed out because of the price or the timing. This is an excellent camera for the price, and I am extremely happy with my purchase after upgrading from another Nikon model.

Great product for the price

I started out with a Nikon film camera, totally manual. The I got a D3000 camera, then a D5000, then a D7000 and aD300. The D300 has gotten me back to manual more or the Aperture mode. Now I get better photos. I real like this camera and would recommend it.

Excellent advanced camera for the beginner.

This is an excellent starter DSL for the amature who wants to grow into photography. I attempted to switch my entire camera bag over to Olympus OM-5 camera, lenses and accessories, but found the camera too small in my hands. I am extremely glad the E-Bay buyer who won the bid on my Nikon D300 failed to honor his bid.

A delight to use.

I got started in photography late in life and purchased a D70s. It was ok but I wanted more and settled on the D300. I find it easy to use but learning to navigating the menu was a little challenging at first. I finally got it and love the camera and what I can capture with it. As great as the Nikon products are I wish that the enclosed manual was a bit more "beginner" friendly

The sensor had been cleaned and it was spotless

I needed to replace a trashed D300 body, and I'm still waiting for the mythical D400. This was Rated an E+ condition. If anything it was better then that. The price was fair and it works well. The sensor had been cleaned and it was spotless.

Great Product sold by a Great Sales Team

Purchased a used Nikon D300 in excellent condition, salesman Bill was very helpful and patient. Allowed me to test 3 different cameras until I made my final decision. I am very pleased with my purchase at Adorama and they will become my number one store in NYC. The camera performs perfectly, High ISO, fast 6 FPS, picture quality, 3D tracking really works, just love this camera. I also own Nikon D60 & Nikon D200 but D300 is now my favorite.

Quality issue

Very dissapointed in what appears to be declining Nikon quality. I have been using Nikon for over 40 years and my old film cameras still work. I had to spend around $300 on the D300 to have the shutter replaced after less than 2000 frames! Not what one should expect from a camera costing around $1,600.00. All the features in the world are worth nothing if the camera breaks down so quickly. If you decide to buy I would recommend buying the extended warranty.

A nice working professional camera.

I am a professional photographer returning to Nikon (used Nikon back to the early days of the "F" series) for reasons of the type of work I do. I find the body to be rugged, well built and easy to manage, does not have a lot of "bells and whistles" that I would never use. A plain, well thought out camera for professional photographers. I use it with the battery pack, that I would certainly urge anyone to add to the body. I will most likely purchase a D700 FX type to add to my working Nikon equipment along with an appropriate 24-70 2.8 lens.

I would recommend & purchase

My husband gave me this as a gift and as an upgrade from Nikon D70S and so far, I absolutely love it. The menu is easy to follow, the LCD screen is great for shooting and reviewing photos, very clear. I am still reading and practicing and getting used to all the new features that I didn't have my D70S.

Great used camera!!

Great buying experience!! I switched from Canon to Nikon and this camera does the job and does it well. I preferred to put the bulk of my money into lenses rather than the camera body...and I don't do video so I chose this one.

Just out of warranty and won't turn on

My step-father was a huge Nikon fan. Years ago, instead of going to prom, my parents talked me into them getting a Nikon FG I believe it was instead. I was a senior in high school. It froze up and refused to turn on while I was in college. I think there was some problem with that model, I later heard but this was before the internet and I was in school in another state so if they'd mailed me anything, I didn't receive it. So, years later, after feeling like I still deserved something after giving up my prom, I invested myself in the Nikon D300, spending several thousand dollars. I've had it four years and had bought a 3 year warranty through Adorama camera. Now, just out of warranty it won't turn on. I've tried everything. I got it to turn on once and was very excited but just tried it again and it won't turn on. My husband is trying to convert me to a competing brand. I may be a slow learner but I just went out and got a NIkon D3200 which is not a pro camera but if they keep breaking, I don't want to spend a lot of money on them but I have all the lenses etc. Just one of my lenses is not motorized so I'll need a new replacement. I have to say, while I'd love to recommend Nikon, my experience has been very disappointing over half a lifetime...

Best camera I have owned

I bought this used from Adorama for a very resonable price. It was listed as E+ condidtion. When I recieved it, I went over it with a magnifying glass and checked all functions. E+ was a very conservative condition code. I couldn't find the tiniest scratch anyhwere on it, it looked like it was brand new. This purchase was to replace a camera that was taken. I have no need for video and have a large supply of CF cards so I saw no need to get a D300s. The D300 has always produced great results for me and I especially like the performace at higher ISO,(up to 800. As a nature photographer, I can be rough on my equipment and this is a rugged camera that will take some abuse. Thanks Adorama for offering it at a good price and in great condition.

D90 Upgrade to D300

Not the newest DSLR, but definately an upgrade from the D90. Actually is the camera I wanted but could by afford when I got the D90. I shoot shutter priority frequently for kids sports and I love the speed. I recommend the 90mb/s CF cards to keep the buffer from filling up to fast (I get 24 jpeg at the highest quality before any signs of it bogging down).

This camera is amazing. First off it's built like a tank. You pick this camera up and it feels great. Personally I mainly use the camera for sports with a Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens. The combination is unbeatable. I was recently at an in door hockey game and got awesome shots I couldn't get with my D80. Here's why. The new autofocus system. The autofocus system has 51 points and 15 cross sensitive points. In 3d tracking mode I was able to track hockey players flying behind one another, t...

A major workhorse

By MikeD300

This D300 has been the best camera I have ever owned. It has been all around the world with us and it is still going strong. I have well over 500,000 to a 1,000,000 photos taken with this camera and it's still working great. Just purchased a D7100 but because of the Compact Flash Card the D300 is still much faster with the same quality!

Agility, speed, low noise and spectacular imaging performance converge in the Nikon D300 to create an amazingly versatile D-SLR that, with your imagination, is ready to go to work. A high-resolution 12.3-megapixel, DX-format image sensor with exclusive Nikon ExPEED digital image processing technology captures your vision at up to 6 frames per second. Add the optional MB-D10 grip to boost your speed to 8 FPS!

A fast 51-area AF system is now even smarter when teamed with Nikon's exclusive Scene Recognition System. The SRS provides additional data to Nikon's famous 1,005-pixel RGB 3D Color Matrix Metering II, assuring even more accurate exposures and white balance detection. Of course, the D300 offers precision Center-Weighted and Spot metering control.

Reliable image review and menu access now comes to life with the D300's bright, tempered-glass protected, 170-degree wide-angle, 3-inch, 920,000-dot VGA TFT LCD monitor. The high-resolution LCD is also the D300's viewfinder when either of two LiveView modes is selected, and new Picture Control settings offer precise fine-tuning of your image characteristics. Simply put, the D300 was engineered to exceed expectations.
