I love everything about this camera except the high noise at anything over 800 ISO.

Back up uses for Wedding Photography, Events and Misc. Photo Shoots. Great for Travel. Great Second camera for pro Wedding uses. x1.5 factor DX god for sports and wild life photography. Handy for great quality Video Clips, despite the 720 rating, they look fantastic. Can auto focus in video mode. Over all it's a great camera/value. Greater still if you already have Nikon lenses.

I saved up money for a full year to buy this product. Get it, have it for 2 days and haven't even been able to take 20 photos with it w/o getting black photos for some reason. The F stop reads at 0 and I've tried having photographers help me but they said they have no idea what's going on w/ it, that they have never seen that happen on a d300. Sooooo, back it goes. So disappointed. :(

As a devout Nikon user and having owned the D300, I wasn't surprised that the 300S' features would prove to be excellent. I couldn't be happier with my purchase....my only wish was that the video did 1080...but for my use 720 will be fine!

I Upgraded to this camera/lens combo after having a D200 with an 18-135 and 70-300 lens combo for two years. While I was very happy with the D200 I found that I was really missing the better quality images that the D300 could produce along with it's superior AF system as well as the larger, brighter LCD and the HDMI output (which is awesome). When the D300s was released offering 720p HD video and dual CF/SD card slots it made the upgrade a no brainer decision. The 18-200mm lens is a great "walk around" lens, while I sometimes miss the extra reach that the 70-300 lens gave me, I noticed that I rarely used the zoom much beyond 200mm and found the images appeared "washed out" when I did. I would then frequently find myself wanting to go wider than 70mm and would then have to switch back to the 18-135. For this reason I find the 18-200mm lens a much more practical solution. I still have a Nikor 50mm f1.8 prime that I use for portraits and low light and so far these two lenses suit 90% of my needs just fine. One thing I do miss from my old D200 is this the dedicated "Bracket" button on the back. On the D300s you can program this feature onto one of the two "function" buttons on the front of the camera, so I guess the button is not gone, but just "moved". Another feature I love on the D300 is the active D lighting which produces great details in the shadows and highlights, the on-board retouch menu has also proved to be quite handy. Overall this is a great camera, while you might be able to get seemingly close or similar features in other, less expensive, plastic body cameras such as the Nikon D90 or Canon Rebels, you just can't make a comparison until you actually pick one up in your hands and try using it, the feel and ergonomics of the D300s will just win hands down everytime.

Returning to SLR after not using one since college (20+ years ago). Love the D300s, though I'm still learning and relearning a lot. Can't wait to add lenses and other accessories. Quality is great. Thought it seemed big at first, but am getting used to that. Very comfortable to hold and intuitive. Recommend getting a book to help figure out all the menus.

Beautiful camera but complicated and heavy. We bought this camera at Christmas and are waiting for the book "Nikon D300s for Dummies" to come out this month so we can understand how to use it better. For a photographer used to simple, automatic cameras, the D300S is perhaps more than we need, but we're game to learn.
