I went around and around trying to choose between this and the D3400. Ultimately I chose the older D3300 because of the mic input port. I love using my DSLR for short video recordings. The pictures it take are awesome. I have no regrets and would buy it again in a heartbeat! :)

My first DSLR was a a350 Sony then I got a Pentax kr from a pawn shop died six months later and then I got the d3300 even though it was a refurbished kit from my local micro center and have had zero issues since but I almost got a display model canon eos rebel t 3i it was defective so I took it back to get my money back and instead I got the d3300 and I gave my dad a two lens kit d3100

Great camera, take great photos. I take a lot of scenery shots and they come out with enough detail to blow up and frame. It is light enough compared to other camera of the same quality.

First of all, let me preface that I have had many Nikon DSLRs. The D40,70s,90,200,7100,5500, and This one the D3300. Yes, that is a lot of Nikon cameras. Also proud owner of a Canon SLR, and Olympus Pentax too. I am a finicky being looking for the best companion that is with me in my car, my trails, airshows, car racing. I just never know where I will be, and what is going to happen. My Google Pixel 2 XL is the phone on the go with me. Why the D3300? Packaging, the weight, the grip that is just perfect for me. The D5500 was an awesome camera too, but the grip was not for my hands. I know that sounds rather bonkers but really sounds silly but if I don't like picking it up, I won't use it. The D3300 with or without my 3rd party battery grip is a natural in my hands. I don't really worry too much about the legacy lens support it lacks as the pin motor drive is absent. That might bother you a bit maybe? It does not have the pivot swivel screen either. Would like the D3500 maybe Nikon? Controls are fine and fall to hand. Though I am spoiled by the twin dials, I adapted just fine with the D3300. The Mic socket input is a biggy as I like to use my Tascam DR-100 MK. 3 to great effect. Image quality is great. To me as good as my bigger D7100 was if not a bit better. Detail and sharpness with my 50mm F1.8 are just dandy. Color trifle off but I shoot NEF/RAW so who cares. I do a bit of tweaking in post so no worries. Great dynamic range for those effects I might like to do. Unlike my MFT that was always so limiting due its processing and smaller sensor. The D3300 low light performance is great for my dark museum and show circuit trips. Videos are quite nice, but my 4K UHD video cameras spoil me. So no fair I know but I think 4K is becoming a reality whether you want it or not. It gives options for framed and aspect shooting or crop in post. Even still, it is reasonably sharp, though the focus, unlike Canon's dual pixel focus system, lags behind. But if I use manual focus and go, video on my tripod for my vlogs or whatever are just fine. The sound is pretty well DSLR-ish, meaning lousy. Get a decent Mic for your run and gun, and you could be a lot happier I think. I think a lot of the reviews will cover more of the technical stuff so pointless to repeat plus you are on the Nikon Website right? Needless to say with all of my shooting I never found the D3300 wanting for any of the silly mistakes I make. It always does what it is supposed to. I have also performed the firmware upgrades for best performance. Easy to do that too. So things I love. Size, weight, easy to use. Great Sensor and low noise, and image and video quality. A great starter camera sure and a great camera even if you are one of those know it alls. You just are excited about telling the story, and this little camera lets you do that so well. Things not so much. No swivel screen, no 4K video, No Touchscreen, and really that is about all. Oh, and the dual mode dials would be nice too. Final thoughts. The D3300 or even its newer sibling are not about shaking up the camera world. It just is not going to do that. But if you do want to shoot easily and not worry too much about the camera so much. It is tough to go wrong here. I had been diverted in so many directions. Look at my cameras previously owned. I came back to Nikon time and again. Why? Because they are the best? Not by a long shot. I came back because I love the way it does things, and I am comfortable with the system. I am sure I might be happy with other cameras, but for how long? And will that comfort level be there? So it looks like I am here to stay, and the D3300 for the foreseeable future will be my imaging and video companion for some time to come. Thanks for reading.

Versátil, pequeña. con grandes rangos dinámicos y una compatibilidad espectacular para otros objetivos. Es sencillamente el pequeño titán de la familia Nikon, Súper recomendada.

I left film photography many years ago after owning and loving an Olympus OM-1. For my general photo needs over the past number of years I have owned a couple of small "point & shoot" film cameras and finally bought a Fuji digital. I owned it so long that it went obsolete and I could no longer buy accessory parts for it; enter the Nikon D3300 on sale with more options than other cameras. I have owned the 3300 for the past almost year and am still learning about it; but, I love it. I have taken numerous pictures all very pleasing and better quality then I am used to. I am slowly buying accessories such as filters and flash. I only wish I had taken the Nikon plunge earlier but then I would be into film Nikon instead of digital; so maybe it is for the best.

I bought this as my first camera other than my phone. It's been great so far. I used it on my trip to Yosemite and after seeing the pics I took, a couple people asked me if I was a photographer. Nope! Just used a decent camera with the kit lens. Just learn how to use the camera and it will go far for you!

6 months after getting this I started getting a "shutter error" message each time I took a photo, sent it back for warranty, it's doing it again; same message and same results. Nikon Canada tells me to ship it back and they'll repair it again. I'll ship it back but they can keep this piece of junk. Exceptionally frustrating.

Just got it a day ago - the pictures taken for testing look good - will have to see how they are when processed and will update or post a new review then.

This camera is stunning. It has a very powerful sensor, easy controls, accessible dials, and plenty of controls. Also, the ISO can achieve good results, but above 400 will create noise. However, as a first DSLR, you couldn't go wrong. The control panel is easy to use, adjustments are easily changed with two fingers, and the price is very good for the quality. I have a full frame macro lens that pairs wonderfully. Don't hesitate to spend the money for it.

This is a great camera for the price! I upgraded to this from an older Nikon so it wasn't hard to learn but it has upgraded features. I haven't used it much but I'm excited to go play with it soon. Nikon never disappoints me.

After many years of taking photos with the point and shoot cameras I decided it was time to level up. This camera is the perfect choice, this is my first DSLR. I'm in the process of learning about the manual functions and taking better quality photos. Most of what I shoot are nature, I added a 55-300 zoom that is working great as well. From a novice, I highly recommend this camera.

It's as much as I need now. Gave my advanced Nikon to the Discover Life in America, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Debating whether to now get a variable telephoto lens ( ~70-200). Recomendation?

I got this camera because I really got frustrated taking pictures with my Nikon Coolpix. It just didn't focus fast enough and I missed a lot of great pictures of my grand kids as a result. Problem solved with the Nikon D3300. Took it to my granddaughter's basketball games. Put it on sports mode and it focused super fast. Got a lot of great shots. Also took pictures of my 9 month old grandson. I missed so many cute smiles with my old camera. Not this one, focus is fast and sharp! Going to Yosemite this summer, can't wait to try it there!

Purchased for my wife for her 30th. Shes been wanting to upgrade for a while and this was a perfect camera for her to do so. Only been using it for a week now but so far it's a great camera. Don't know much about cameras but researched online and this camera has a lot of positive customer reviews.

I bought this camera both for photography and videography. While the lens is noisy when using autofocus for video, this can be alleviated by using the manual focus mode. However as a camera, it is great, autofocus is extremely effective and fast when using the viewfinder and the built in flash is powerful. The camera is even faster when using an external flash and I have taken some really great shots with it despite being a novice when it comes to camera modes. The guide function is a great tool in learning how to use the camera, and will help those like myself who are coming from point and shoot cameras to be more efficient and effective DSLR photographers.

I ordered online from Adorama at the recommendation of a professional photographer friend. I had a very good experience from the man who took the order and the product arrived ahead of schedule. The camera is everything it promises to be and my wife and I are enjoying it very much. I commend the Nikon and Adorama to anyone interested in buying cameras online.

Best entry level DSLR

I use this as a back up and 4K Time Lapse camera, for Street Photography, landscapes, and snapshots. But, it's now become my main DSLR video camera. The things I like: Awesome image quality and resolution. Great color depth, dynamic range, and low light performance. It'll shoot large file JPEGs for 4K time lapse. Easy fingertip access to aperture, shutter speed, and ISO without taking my eye off the viewfinder, or hands off the camera. And the newer expeed 4 processor gives it a faster A...
