Great features

I like that the camera is easy to navigate through the menus and things are quick to find. Takes excellent pictures. I would highly recommend this camera even for beginners I think this would be a great camera.

A good camera with a small body

The D5300 is my first DSLR camera. I bought my D5300 with the Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Kit Lens, but I use it with a Nikon 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Lens. I use my camera for taking photos of birds or landscapes. The D5300 is my only camera capable of taking photos of birds in flight.

First DSLR

I have been a hobbyist-level photographer for many years, going clear back to 1961 when I got my first film camera. I can't honestly say photography is a passion with me; more like a pleasant pastime. I didn't get involved with digital cameras until 2005, when I was gifted with a small point-and-shoot. I did become interested, though, and from that time until the present I have purchased and taken lots of pictures with increasingly advanced cameras (one of which was my much-loved Nikon P-80) until December of last year, when I made the step up from a Fuji bridge camera to the Nikon d5300, which I paired with the Nikkor 35mm f /1.8 DX prime lens. I am almost 70 years old and don't get out and around like I did in the past. Still, I very much enjoy my vintage-2013 DSLR; it has all the features I need and prefer after 12 years of using digital cameras. I live on a fixed income and cost was a factor. But I have an extraordinarily fine, precision instrument in the d5300, with its 24-megapixel DX sensor (I especially like the absence of an anti-aliasing filter, which increases sharpness). I have also come to rely on a fully articulated LCD, and don't like touch screens; the d5300 has the one without the other; perfect. It shoots 60 fps video, ideal for slow motion (I am an intermediate-level user of v.15 of both Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements). I like to do time-lapse; there's a built-in intervalometer. I did some homework before I bought this jewel and I'm very happy with it. Thanks very much.

The best DSLR for beginners and professionals

Best camera I've ever used, followed by the D3300, I loved it. It makes great shots, has good settings, sensor cleaning could be a little more effective, but it does not change the fact that it's good.

Fabulous!

This is my second Nikon DSLR. First was a D3800 which was great, then I got the Nikon D5300. The weight of this camera is so light which makes it a dream to hike with. The camera controls are easily accessible and within seconds you are ready to take your shot. Love this camera!

Very good DSLR for my needs

Retired enthusiast, Upgraded from a 10 year old D80. Quite the improvement especially in the focusing and image quality, I shoot 14bit raw and use Lightroom. Also perfect size and weight for me. Great ease of use. My first Nikon was an FTn (m1971). Still have it.

Great camer

I received this camera new and I have been using this camera for work for the past 3 years. I use it indoors and outdoors all year in Minnesota. It has over 280,000 actuations and has not had any repairs done on it. Has worked in the rain, sleet and snow really well and it was still working at -20F these past couple of winters. I would buy another if I have to.

A fine all around small dSLR

I purchased the D5300 specifically for conversion to infrared photography. I selected the D5300 for 3 reasons: 1) live view (very important for focusing with infrared), 2) flip out screen, 3) modest price. The camera has worked out great as a special purpose tool. I also have a D5500 that I use for general (usually not so serious) photography. I have a full-frame D800e for the more serious stuff. The only thing I miss on the D5300 is a touch screen. The touch screen functions on the D5500 are great.

Perfect package for a beginner

This bundle worked nicely for me as a beginner. I have enough to take some really nice pictures, learn about the basics, and it was affordable.

An awesome option for a first DSLR

I've had this camera for about 7 or 8 months and it is absolutely amazing. it has guided me to take my photographer skills to new levels and to try new things. This camera was also my first DSLR. The kit lenses are amazing, I frequently use the telephoto lens to snap shots of the moon. I'm gonna be buying more lenses later this month though, so I can get the best out of the Nikon experience.

Nikon 5300

Overall, it is a good camera. I find the wireless utility difficult to use. The camera wants to connect to my phone requesting a PIN while the while the phone is simultaneously doing the same utilizing Nikon's WU2 0090B16885F WiFi app. Sorry sales and tech people, I can't read your mind as to what either device is looking for.

I love this instrument

I always shot my F3 Nikon [film] so that most or all of the editing was done in the viewfinder and proper exposure. I mention this because I shoot with my new D5300 in a similar fashion. The array of controls provided with this beauty allow me to essentially shoot to near-final image right on the spot. With the big 24 megapixel files and my computer software I can quickly tweak my shots and print. I also really like the ability to pair the D5300 with my laptop or my phone in the field or in a more controlled indoor set up. using the phone or I pad or laptop to make shots and see the images on the bigger screens is great. I can speak with the person[s] I am photographing in a more relaxed manner and it just seems that I make better photos this way besides keeping the shots in the computer right away. using the ability to email directly from the camera is easy and lets me quickly share anything I am shooting without delay. This camera body is of carbon fiber construction so it is light but strong since carbon fiber is what modern aircraft components are largely made from. there are some professionals that will want some features that the D5300 does not have but for 90%+ of the photography I will ever do, the D5300 is perfect. when I consider the very good pricing for this Nikon then its hard to beat the benefits for the cost. I love this instrument.

Great camera.

This is my first DSLR and I really like it. Picture quality for stills is very good and for video you will be amazed. It does not have a low pass filter with removed aliasing( the swiggly lines in striped shirts and such). It does not have a focus motor built it So you would need a lens with an auto focus motor built in. Over all, this was and is a great but for the work I do.

Nice for beginners.

For a first time DSLR owner, I am really enjoying getting to know this camera. And though I have not used the gadgets that came in the kit, I am very excited to give those try once I'm more familiar with DSLR functions.

Great upgrade from old Nikon D40

I'm upgrading from an old Nikon D40. The D5300 is pretty much a quantum leap from that. It has a ton more features while being lighter, while the price is about the same. I haven't done a ton of pictures or video but what I've seen so far is excellent. Spend some time with the manual and some YouTube tutorials (I recommend Tony Northrup). The camera has a ton of power if you understand just a few basic features. So far I love this camera.

Not worth it for GPS

When upgrading from my D90, I purchased the D5300 over the D7200 specifically because of the onboard GPS (I really don't want to use a dongle). I was a bit skeptical about moving "down" the Nikon product line, but geotagging is very important to me, so I hoped the tradeoff would be worth it. I like the decrease in weight compared to my D90, and while I do miss my top LCD screen and secondary dial, the control interface is actually quite good and quick to navigate. GPS reliability is abysmal. I took my D5300 to the park last week, and only about 10% of the images had a geotag. This was the killer feature for me, and it doesn't work well at all. I suspect this is the reason why it was dropped from later models. I've decided to get a D5600 to see if SnapBridge will work well as an alternative for Geotagging. I've heard really really bad things about SnapBridge, so I'm not that optimistic.

A good camera for someone who likes photography but can't afford a really expensive camera.

Lots of stuff to learn on this camera. Not sure that the manual that came with it couldn't have been written a little better. Camera is lightweight and easy to handle . If you're not already familiar with this type of camera I would suggest taking a couple of photography courses at your local community Ed Center to learn how to better handle it. It does have a learning curve but I think I'm getting to the end of the curve. Overall I like the Nikon and have had others in the past.

Keep It Steady, Keep It Clear

I am enjoying my camera so far. I majored in Mass Communication in college and I took a photography course, I learned a bit from that so I decided to work with the university photographer. I learned a little bit about aperture, f-stop and several other photography terms that I found interest in. So, I asked the university photographer to suggest a camera to get and he suggested this one. When, I first got it, I liked that it was not too heavy and I like each of the lens that it came with. On the camera that I shot with in college, the display did not sling out, so I am not really used to that, but I am sure there are some benefits and why Nikon chose to make this specific camera this way. So far, I have gone out to shoot a parade and zoo animals and I've loved the quality that this camera produces. I have yet to try to use the HD video option, but I plan to this weekend. I am just excited that I have the opportunity to shoot a quality video with this camera. I am excited about my Nikon experience so far, and I hope to learn more and teach and share my experience with others so they can join the family and fun as well. I appreciate it Adorama. Go ahead, get your camera, you'll have a blast. #TeamPhotography

The camera is well build and not so heavy

I like the camera so far and also got in a deal from adorama. The only con i observed till now is the image stabilisation is less while capturing the moving objects. It is one of the best midrange cameras i used so far. The accessories provided are also of good quality.

A lot of Camera for the Money

Wonderful camera, does everything I need. The 70-300mm lense is sharp and focus is fast. The 18-55mm lense is not very sharp and color rendition is not very good, will likely replace this with an 18-140mm very soon as it is a much better lense and I prefer to have focal length overlap in my lenses. I do not like the kit bag at all, for me it is far too small and wrong shape, this will get replaced as well. The filters are nice, but it would be nice to also get a CP filter for the 58mm diameter 70-300mm lense. Nice to have the supplied software, but have not yet had a chance to try it out. Would have been nice to get lense hoods with the lenses, but neither one came with one. Purchase online at Adoramma was fast and easy, arrived on correct day. Packaging was iffy, everything was loosely placed in an overly large cardboard box with a single, way too small piece of bubblewrap. But everything arrived in one piece and in working condition. Overall very satisfied with the equipment for the price.

Nikon D5300 Kit

This two lens plus accessories kit was just what I was looking for as a Christmas gift to my daughter. It arrived exactly when promised and all of the components look fantastic. I don't know if my daughter has "fired it up" yet, but I know from my Nikon D90 experience that she should love it.

I just bought this camera for my wife and we're very happy with it

By Freddie

I just bought this camera for my wife and we're very happy with it. I own a Nikon D800 and have been a professional photographer for many years. We wanted to get something for my wife that would yield great image quality, but would be light in weight and easy to use. The Nikon D5300 fits the bill. We got the camera with the 18-140mm lens. The camera is perfect for the serious beginner. It can be used in AUTO mode and, when you're ready, can be used in the more professional P, S, A, and M mode...

Absolutely stellar camera

By Landon

I bought this camera a few months ago and all I can say about it are positive things. All of the image sensor specs are exactly identical to the prosumer camera D7100 except for the image processor which is an Expeed 4, the best that Nikon currently offers, so if you're worried about not getting a great sensor, this is definitely top notch (for mid-range cameras at least). I guess I'll break down this review into a few categories to make it easy to read. Construction The body of this camera ...
