great camera;lens- adequate(for price)

The D700 is a terrific camera. Some think it to be too large and heavy. For me, however, it's size and weight are not a concern; it's heft projects a sense of worth and remind me of the D700's potential.

Technology wizardry

I do a bit of traveling and often end up in tough lighting situations. This technological marvel works miracles compared to my other non-DSLR cameras. I make good use of the 5 fps shooting mode when working with moving wildlife. The one thing that initially attracted me to the D700 was the low noise at high ISO settings. Since I've been using this camera, I've come to enjoy lots of its features. The only downside to the D700 is its size and weight. I have no trouble handling it but I can imagine that some photographers might be put off by that.

Great camera!

Great camera with very good image quality, even at high ISOs. It was a little intimidating at first but being a former 8X10,4X5 shooter I started using the camera in manual mode. Starting in manual gave me the opportunity to learn all the menus that I may want to use.

Wondeful upgrade

I use the D700 as a landscape and wildlife camera. It is an upgrade for me from a D70s and it is hands down the best camera I have ever owned. It is built incredibly well, is solid, and feels at home in the hand. Owning an F100, the D700 is remarkably similar which made it easy for me to adjust to the outside features. The internal features of this camera are too many to list so I will hit on the features I use most often. The most used feature, for me, is the shooting menu bank and its ability to have preset camera setups defined by the user. Second most used feature is the info button next to the LCD. This is incredibly handy while using a tripod as I do not need to tilt the camera back to read the little command screen on the top. The last important feature that I use is the ISO sensitivity settings. Being able to trust this camera and the ISO's available to produce beautiful high ISO low noise images makes this camera shine. I do believe this is the best entry level FX professional camera on the market.

AWESOME CAMERA

FANTASTIC CAMERA EASY TO USE AND THE MORE WE USE IT THE BETTER THE PIX QUALITY BECOMES. THE BEST WAY TO GET EXCELLENT PIX IS TO LEARN ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES AND THEN USE THAT KNOWLEDGE TO CREATE GREAT PICTURES. HAVE SOME THAT WE HAVE BLOWN-UP TO 24X36 AND STILL LEARNING.

Superb camera, Love it.

I felt I was ready to take the next step in my photography journey and the D700 gave me a professional camera at much less than the D3 or D3X. It has surpassed my expectations and buying it through Adorama was a very satisfying experience. They were great to work with, no pressure and they gave me exactly what I wanted for a fair price. I'll buy all my photographic equipment from them in the future. Dave Updegraff

It's a computer that takes photo's

Just getting back into photography after years of not having appropriate equipment (digital). I'm a former Nikon F2 owner and got tired of film and this Nikon D700 does everything I use to do with my old Nikon system, only better, quicker, and easier. With the computer programs built in,(and being digital) I can avoid the time in the darkroom/computer and generate photographs that would have taken hours to either develop and print or hours in photoshop.

Top of the line!!

Excellent in low light. Definitely need to upgrade to the EN-el4 batteries to get the most out of this camera. May cost a little more but well worth it.

The first Nikon FX-format camera, the D3, produced a quantum leap in digital photography that forever changed the way professionals are able to work. Now, with the launch of the second Nikon FX-format camera the Nikon D700 you can achieve, in a smaller, lighter design, many of those same extraordinary imaging feats that made the Nikon D3 an immediate legend. Like the D3, the D700 transcends the expectations of the world's leading photographers, in an agile body developed from the award-winning DX-format D300.

In soft, subtle lighting, it captures seductively smooth tones with astonishingly rendered detail easily. In low-lit situations, it delivers virtually poisefree images for impeccable results at up to ISO 6400 easily. And if you're faced with constantly changing lighting conditions, the D700 handles these complex exposure changes with ISO sensitivity auto control easily. When your day is long and demanding and you need to travel light, you'll appreciate this camera's portability, responsiveness and finely balanced handling.

And when you need more speed to capture a crucial moment, the D700 delivers with the option of a multi-power battery pack that gives you up to 8 frames per second, continuous shooting. Whether your subject's fast, slow or still, you'll capture it with tack-sharp precision using Nikon's exclusive 51-point AF system easily. Every aspect of the D700 has been carefully engineered, to provide you with the freedom to work efficiently and with the utmost sensitivity, as a natural extension of your personal vision.

The D700 achieves a remarkable distillation of the finest imaging performance digital photography can offer. The D700's 12.1-megapixel FX-format CMOS image sensor provides exceptional image quality throughout its remarkable ISO sensitivity range. A large pixel size of 8.45 µm allows for an extremely low signal-to-noise ratio and a wide dynamic range. The 12-channel readout enables accelerated information transfer, allowing the D700 to shoot at speeds of up to eight frames per second at full resolution (using the optional MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack) and quickly write image data onto the CompactFlash card.

The D700 offers a versatile base ISO range from 200-6400 but can be expanded to range from ISO 100 (Lo-1) to 25,600 (Hi-2) affording photographers the new-found confidence to shoot in the widest variety of lighting conditions from the brightest midday sun to dim interiors. Images previously thought to be impossible to create without complex lighting set-ups or lengthy post-processing are now captured easily and faithfully with the D700, unleashing new and diverse shooting possibilities
