Let me begin by saying that I have been shooting with Nikons for more that 35 years and have not found one reason for switching. I purchased the D800 to replace a couple of bodies, the D2Xs, 2 - D2X, and 2 - D300s. I originally switched to full frame bodies with the D610 and left it on the shelf for more than a year while I continued to shoot with my DX bodies. Finally, I started using the D610 and liked the way it handled and the quality of the images that it produced. As I began to investigate more, I thought that I might have wanted a D3 or a D3X but, instead purchased the D800. From the moment it arrived, I knew there was something different about it. The box was a lot heavier than I had expected and after configuring it with the setting that I normally use and I began to shoot. Took a couple of images and put them in my Lightroom post-production app and was blown away by the quality and amount of detail in the images. The D610 did a fairly good job but it has to be the Expeed processor that has been improved. I absolutely love the camera. I may update if things change because it is a little small in my hands. I know that the current trend it to make the bodies smaller so that they are a little more user friendly to those of us with small hands and are not used to carrying the weight of a fully loaded film based SLR with long lens, battery pack and speedlights. It present, this is my only complaint. Just wish that I had not waited so long to purchase on of these gems.

I bought this after returning the Nikon D810 due to wanting to have the AA sensor. Adorama was great with the return and so far I am very pleased with the D800. Also, like that I got a good deal on it and could add a warantee.

I am an experienced amateur photographer with aspirations to approach, if not equal, professional quality images. The D800 is tool that has the image quality to make that possible - someday. Great - The camera has fabulous megapixel count, making it possible to crop an image without jeopardizing printing large. The dynamic range is great and higher ISO settings than available in many DSLRs don't lead to grainy images. Excellent build quality Not So Great - Pricey, even as a refurbished item with a newer and upgraded version (D810) available. Heavy camera

I received my refurbished D800 from Adorama in like new condition. Shutter actuation count was incredibly low at 352 actuations. All accessories, manuals and related items were brand new. What a fantastic deal and wonderful way to purchase an essentially brand new camera at a significant savings. Couldn't be happier. Customer service was excellent as always with Mike F providing exceptional service, technical advice and product recommendations. Overall an outstanding professional photography buying experience. Highly recommended. Thank you Adorama!

This camera is AMAZING! Why did I wait so long to upgrade from my D7000? I was skeptical of the ISO performance before I purchased it, and I am very happy to report that this camera is absolutely incredible at high ISO!

I use this camera for everyday professional usage and to capture images for my own personal use as well. I am a professional photograph and love this camera. It works great in low light environments as well as studio and outdoor usage. While it does have a huge file size the performance of the camera itself with a wonderful dynamic range more than makes up for large file size. This is a great camera and I would recommend it to anyone not doing professional sports photography. If you are a sports photographer look for the D400 when it comes out or if you can afford it the D4s.

Other than a grey, box mine came just like new with a shutter count of 5. I have not had the chance to put it through the rigors of a wedding season but so far I am very happy with its performance.

I went from d300s to D800. Even better image quality. You can tell the difference is significant especially in low light. I love this camera. Only thing you should not use DX lenses on it. Only use full frame Fx lenses or prime. I have the Tokina 11-16 2.8 Dx. It actually works with Fx at 15-16mm to my surprise. You get vignetting if you zoom out past 15mm but who needs that because it is much wider on a full frame camera.

I was really hesitant to get this camera after having my D700 for so long. I loved that camera, but I needed something that could do better in low light situations. The D800 makes shooting so much easier. I am not in love with the file size, but after I purchase more RAM and another external HD, things should get faster. The size is comparable to my D700, but the quality is so much better. Glad I upgraded.

This camera had only 10 shutter actuations, appeared to be brand new, shoots excellent, very happy with this purchase.

In studio I was loving the camera and detail. Test your camera thoroughly. Just shot one week in Puerto Rico for a job. Major back focusing issues even at the maximum AF-tuning corrections. Unusable at lower apertures on multiple lenses. (Nikkor 28-80 2.8 and even my Nikkor 50mm 1.8 set at f4. Has to use my 600. I didn't notice in studio shooting at f8. Very glad I didn't realize on a wedding.

I'm an amateur photographer, learning more and more every day. I came from DX world, and purchased D800 with Nikkor 20mm F/2.8, Nikkor 50mm F/1.4, and Nikkor 135mm F/2.0 DC. The D800 works amazing with all these lenses! Images are crisp and sharp, and ISO sensitivity is unbelievable! The only downside is the lack of saving custom settings, however I don't miss it much. I primarily shoot at Manual or Aperture priority modes, however Program mode also works great.

I had a D800 before and sold it to my son because he had a bad experience with a D600 and was hesitant on another Nikon camera. After he had it he loves it and I missed it so much I had to get another one.

I bought this camera to use as my main body and to use my Nikon 7000 second. I'm a photography student, but I also photograph weddings, portraits, and smaller events, so I wanted to invest in a full frame camera. Can't go wrong with a refurbished camera body either! So far, I've used the Nikon D800 for filming/photographing weddings and a beach photo shoot. My Nikon 7000 actually malfunctioned the evening of a recent wedding gig and I'm glad I had the Nikon D800 to cover me. Also, Adaroma shipped this quick and I love the refurbished price.

I am a serious photographer, mostly hobby with just a tad paid. This camera is a joy to use. Just experimenting with the different AF functions was a blast. I took pictures of some items for eBay. One is a leather item that has some defects. The pictures taken with this camera shows the extent of those defects as if I were holding the item in my hand. If you don't want too much detail, do not use it. I shoot raw and back to back exposures are fast enough for me.

If you are in the market for an FX Nikon you have likely read reviews/comparisons of the 600/700/800. Although the 800 is pricier it has the new processor that the 700 doesn't and makes use of it in ways that the 600 cant. Buying a Nikon factory refurbished D800 from Adorama allows great bang for your buck and makes it totally worth springing for the 800.

My uses for d800: - portrait and wedding gigs - quality prints for art galleries I left my Canon 5dmk2 for this camera. It fits all my needs in one body. I'm able to shoot any type of gig with this camera, and never have to worry about poor lighting conditions anymore. The file sizes are big but with a proper workflow you won't think anything of it. The main reason I bought the d800 was for the ability to make large high quality prints from it...this camera can easily hold sharpness/IQ at 40x60 inch prints. I haven't been able to print larger than that since I only have access to an Epson 9900 but still! Previously when I wanted dependable IQ I would normally turn to medium or large format cameras for gallery work.... Now for the pros/cons Pros: - fast autofocus - performs well under low light - Image quality is amazing...AMAZING - ease of use (button layout is quick to manage) - offers 4:5 ratio in camera cropping along with DX - accepts pretty much any Nikon lens since 1977 (HUGE HUGE ADVANTAGE) - offers in camera editing - Shoots HD video - Register this product and get 20gigs of cloud space from Nikon Image Space - Accepts both CF + SD cards Cons: -none

I bought this refurbished D800 to replace my D700 and as a backup to my existing D800. Having 2 D800's is a very nice luxury and allows me to easily copy settings between bodies. Adorama's low price made all the difference. My new refurbished D800 calibrated perfectly with LensAlign and works great with all of my lenses. My "old" D800 had to be returned to Nikon 3 times to fix focus issues. This "new" D800 focused fine from the beginning. Great service, fast shipping and high quality from Adorama. What's not to like?

I have been a professional photographer for the past 10 years. I started with Canon but fell in love with the feel and look of Nikon. I was really excited when I heard about the D800 and its capabilities. It is an amazing piece of equipment and a great joy to use. I definitely think it was worth the price and the wait. I love shooting sports photography and although it may be a bit slow in the shutter speed, it puts you to task in anticipating where your subject will go and how you will capture it.

I purchased the camera specifically for its low light performance and I'm not disappointed in the least. I waited until a refurbished unit was available and when it arrived I checked and found 164 shutter actuations. Well worth the $600-700 savings.

The D800 is a very good camera. If you are a reasonably proficient photographer this camera will serve you well. It is very capable. I don't like the trade offs it makes in auto mode. But the other modes are Easley accessible and easy to use. My favorite mode is manual with auto focus and auto ISO. I often use this setup with (shutter/exposure) bracketing. I am fairly knowledgeable but not an expert photographer. For me learning the features and capabilities of this camera have been a lot of fun.

I needed a second D800 because my primary D800 was being repaired. The refurbished camera focused better than my original camera! And the refurbished body only had 708 activiations. I think I will buy refurbished bodies from now on. By the way, the D800 is amazing. The large file size allows for all sorts of cropping and adjustments.

Got the refurb D800 and was impressed right out the box. Like new shutter count @ 301 out of the box. Would suggest for anybody looking to save some $$. Well worth it.

I mostly use the D800 for video, it is by far the best SLR for the price. The amazing thing about it that really stands out is its ability to take great video and photos in low light.

From the Manufacturer
The Nikon D800 is a 36.3MP professional HDSLR that breaks new ground in resolution and metering technology. More than an upgrade to the just-discontinued 12MP D700, the D800 is a major overhaul. Unlike the D700, which was positioned as a "prosumer" camera, the Nikon D800 is definitely geared towards pro users especially studio, fashion, and wedding and portrait photographers. The D800 has a 91,000-pixel RGB Matrix Metering System, Advanced Scene Recognition, and what Nikon says is an improved 51-point AF system. It has a relatively small form factor for a pro camera, similar in size to the D700. For videographers, the camera can capture 1080p video at up to 30fps with manual control and uncompressed HDMI output.
Unlike the 16MP D4, Nikon's recently-announced new flagship camera that boasts an ISO range of 100-204-800, the D800's native ISO range is 100-6400, expandable to 50 and 25,600. However, Nikon says improvements in light transmission to the sensor photodiodes, changes in sensor design, an enhanced Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) and 14 bit A/D conversion with a high signal to noise ratio will translate into outstanding low-light, high-ISO performance. Also unlike the D4, the D800 delivers only 4fps burst rate at full resolution, 6fps in DX mode (see below).
Nikon users who have invested in DX-format lenses will be able to use them on the D800 by using the 15.4MP resolution setting. In this setting, only the pixels that cover a DX-sized portion of the sensor will be active, giving the camera a 1.5x crop.
Other features include Advanced Scene Recognition, which compares the scene with Nikon's 30,000 image database. Face recognition has been refined, with the Color Matrix Meter placing priority on exposures of detected faces. Nikon says it has also improved white balance to better recognize both natural and artificial light.
D800: Tool for serious cinematography
For videographers, the D800 is a serious tool. Able to record full HD 1080p at 30 or 25p and 720p at 60/30p, the D800 records H.264 or MPEG4 AVC format video using the B-Frame data compression method for up to 29:59-minute clips. Rolling shutter distortion a common problem for HDSLRs is said to be minimized thanks to fast data read rates at the sensor. High-ISO performance is said to allow filmmakers to capture footage where previously impossible.
The D800 is available both with and without a low-pass filter (the model without the low-pass filter is the D800E. The D800E cancels anti-aliasing properties and allows light to be delivered directly to the photodiodes. This is said to offer the highest possible color fidelity and dynamic range that, according to Nikon, delivers near-medium-format image quality. Color moire correction ise available within Capture Nx2.
Both the D800 and D800E will use UMDA6 and UMDA7 Compact Flash cards as well as SD SDXC and UHS-1 cards in two card slots. The camera is protected from moisture and dust and is constructed of magnesium alloy. Nikon also claims up to 900 image captures and 60 minutes of HD video recording per battery charge.
