Great camera. I am an amateur, and always wanted to have a full frame camera. Got it used and even obsolete (by its release date), I believe I won't need anything better than this camera many many years to come.

I recently placed my first Adoroma order for a "heavy used" Nikon D810. It took 3 days to arrive to Tennessee from NY via UPS. The camera was well packaged and arrived intact. When I finally unwrapped, I was very surprised! The camera was in pristine condition. There was only some ever so slight brassing around bottom of base, but zero dents or scratches. The rear LCD, and top LCD screens were bright, clear and scratch free. The function buttons and switches were in very good condition. And best of all the shutter count was below the manufacture's life limit. The camera shoots and works great. Needless to say, I am very pleased with this purchase. It's hard to believe Adoroma can offer such a great pro-level camera at this price point. And the Nikon D810 definately delivers pro quailty, better built-in technology, and beautiful pictures. I highly recommend purchasing from Adoroma, and will be shopping with them in the near future. Great job Adoroma. You just got a happy new customer. A+

For me and the photos I enjoy making, this is as close to my dream camera as I am likely to get any time soon. I used a Pro camera as a semi-pro shooter during the film era - Nikon F5. Then, my dream maker. But since I can't afford the Z9 my best choice in memory-making is the D810. It is the best Nikon that still affords the benefit of the onboard flash! For landscape photos, its 36.3 megapixels render incredible photographs! For close-up shots, the fill flash is ideal and I have no need of an extra speedlight. Moving up from a wonderful and still well-used D610, the D810 is easy to master and intuitive to use fully. Easily, my favorite Nikon of all!

D810 is arguably the best buy you can find in today's market at around $700 range. It provides the best image quality and handling, great build quality and tons of nikon dslr lenses. Highly recommended if you are a beginner trying to get into photography.

Purchased the Nikon D810 camera. This camera is not for folks that need all the future?s that this camera offers. This camera is pure professional equipment. And first class in my opinion.

I have the D810 for 4 years and just loved the amount of pixels it has, I used it at a wedding & got the most amazing no flash allowed photos of the bride & groom than I ever thought possible. I also got great results shooting landscapes, my grandchildren and all their various sporting events & recitals (which required no flash) plus birds also with very good results. I loved this camera so much for its portraits that my daughter law is now using it to take great quality photos of her 3 beautiful daughters which I relish each great shot taken!! I used it for a while as back up to my D850, but after being the go to camera for 3 years & seeing the quality of the iPhone pics I decided that she needed a better camera & since my son & family live 650 miles away, this was the way to go besides my son is an IT guy and he'll soon love the D810 too!!

My D810 is due for a review ~ prompted by my lazy-late decision to finally register it at ‘MyNikon’ website. I’ve had it since November 2014, and have had a great time with it! ~ PS tells me I’m over 30,000 shots {<aux:ImageNumber>31400<} with the only observable symptom is me pulling up the edge of the grip covering because of rough handling. I’ve dropped it on concrete, gotten it soaked by rain in my kayak shooting birds, and carrying it around in a tumble of lenses and junk in my camera bag... This D810 delivers fantastic results behind the latest of Nikon chipped lenses, you know that already, but I’m here to tell you it is just as happy with a 50+ year old Nikkor 500mm Reflex, a Bellows II extension with the slide adapter, and even {yipes} a C8 2000mm Schmitt-Cassegrain. I have no mercy! I have never been disappointed in this fine instrument.

After six years of shooting with the D5200 which was a wonderful six years, now jumping to the D810, what an incredible upgrade. I know there are other excellent cameras out there by Nikon but this is such a huge move for me. Thoroughly enjoying this awesome equipment. So much to learn so many things to discover so spending time studying reading playing experimenting. It’s going to take a few months to get comfortable with it but could not of made it better move at this time in my pro-amateur career.

I have used Nikon cameras for over 50-years, having owned EM, FM series, F3, F4, D5300, D7100, D500, and lastly, the D810 - my first full frame DSLR. It’s great to be able to fill the viewing frame with an image and know that’s how the final image will come out. At 36.3mp, I’m able to crop tightly and loose little, if any, picture quality. All controls are easily accessible and the camera well balanced, more so with the addition of the MD-12 battery pack. The more I use it - the more I want to!

I just upgraded from a D5300, which was a great entry level camera. However, now I have my dream camera - Nikon D810. There is a lot more to learn but completely worthy it. This camera is awesome and now I must step my game up.

I am a steadfast Nikon user. My first DSLR was a D5000, then a D5300 and I settled into the D5500 for quite some time. I had always wanted to go "Full-frame", but could never afford what I wanted. Just recently, my D5500 started having issues with the sensor - it came down to buying a new camera, elated to find that the prices for the "older" model D750 and D810 were well within my current reach. I'm still learning all this camera's many features, but the first ~50 pics I took with just my comparative limited experience from my D5500 were amazing!

Purchased the D810 as a backup for my D750. Now it seems the 750 is destined to be the backup. The 810 is easy to use and operate! Perfect for landscape and gets me in the wilderness every weekend. Allows me to spend less time setting up the camera, and more time shooting in the woods. B and H gave me the opportunity to purchase a camera I thought I couldn't afford!

I purchased the D810 a few years ago. Quite simply, this is one of Nikon's great all time cameras. Digital or film. Image quality is outstanding and of course, being an 800 series, handling is fantastic. Of course, the D850 has superseded it and has advances in offering more resolution, the back-lit sensor, 4K video but the D810 has a feature I really like and use a lot and that's the built-in flash. I use it quite frequently. I would miss having it although you could get one of Nikon's smaller units. Considering that new ones are still available at $1,000 off just for the body I would strongly recommend you consider a D810 if you're in the market for a full frame DSLR. You won't be disappointed.

Put my D300s on the shelf when this arrived. I am still working on the finer points but it dazzled me when I first shot a few images. Much faster, it seems, than my D300s and the menu has some interesting components(Like the folder option). I am still wandering through the manual I purchased by Darrell Young but this camera is similar in function to my D300s so I am picking up quite fast and love the outcome.

While it reminds me in many ways of my old Pentax 6 x 7 (I also shot Nikon F1 and N2000 as well as many other brands and formats) but out-performs it by a mile, and the 502-page fine-print manual seems daunting at first, I picked up the basics very quickly. I have already begun shooting event photography (something I hadn't planned on) as well as requested scenic photos after less than a month. I will soon be using it for professional real estate photography and even have a memorial shoot coming up. "Nikki" still surprises me on occasion when I turn her on, but I've mastered everything I need and want in the first two or three weeks of owning her. Even in JPEG Fine, the quality is outstanding. The included software was easy to use and will do all I need to create professional RAW photographs that will beat most of the competition.

I now have 2 D810's because I can't imagine a better back-up camera. Great resolution, managable-size files, relatively low noise at high ISO, and easy to work with.

For a longtime film (Nikon F3) fan, this was a big jump, and the feature set is at first a bit overwhelming. But the image quality in bright and low light with various apertures is unparalleled, and all my old manual-focus lenses meter perfectly. Vibration reduction on the AF zoom allows hand shooting at slow shutter speeds, and Lightroom does the rest. Despite its complexity this camera is durable, surviving bitter cold and very wet shoots as though it were a sunny day.

Love the quiet shutter. Didn’t realize how loud my D300 is. I have a jittery Red-bellied woodpecker that visits my bird blind. He hangs around and let’s me shoot multiple shots of him now. The body of this camera just feels good. Even though I always try to keep rain and snow off my camera gear, I feel that the D810 could withstand both. Looking forward to growing into this camera. If you get one, just shoot the heck out of it.

Coming from d7200 the d810 allows me to do all those things that I couldn't with a DX body like creamy backgrounds, wider wide angle and much better low light performance. D7200 is a great camera but I limited ISAO to 2400 to keep noise acceptable. D810 is good to 6400. The low ISO of 64 is also great to help lengthening exposure for cloud and water exposures. Great all round buy.

First, I have had it for 3 years. It is sharp, but the images are grainy. I limit the maximum ISO to 6400. I have had no problem cleaning the images with NIK and Topaz filters. The final images are great. Since it can use D lenses I am keeping it, but I just bought the Z7. It is still being tested. I use photoshop CS6, so I have to import those images in a round-about way. The D810 is no problem. I also like the pop-up flash (not present on the Z7). It allowed me to control other flash units. I have Nikons-the entire F series (minus the F6), and many of the DX series. The D810 was the best of the SLRs (I never got the 850 since the Z7 came out by then--sorry D850, you are left in the dust). The D810 is now available with large discounts and that makes it a great bargain). ?: Why change NEF files to the point that new converters are needed? Ok, the sensor etc. However, there are software converters out there so a good option would have been an alternive option to save as a compatible file. (Frankly JPEG???? even TIFF???--bad choices, Nikon). Also, Adobe RGB should be changed to a larger gamut color space. Nikon only offers sRGB and Adobe RGB--again, Nikon, you are a professional, do it correctly. Inspite all of this, I love it and recommend it. Hey, this is a review, not advertisement.

This is my first full frame camera. I have a D7200 and have always been impressed with the photos and ease of use. After getting my D810 I immediately noticed the quietness and overall feeling of quality. The D7200 is built well, but the D810 is truly built like a truck. As a non-professional, I am sure this camera will last as long as I want to keep it. The pictures are amazing and the dynamic range of the sensor truly impressed me. It captured data in low light that even I could not see.

I remember being a young art student at SAIC and Kansas City Art Institute. I was a dedicated Canon (F-1) user and snob. Though equally interested Nikon. After 4 decades of inactivity in photography I bought my first Nikon DSLR. It didn't take long for me to buy a D-810. And am I glad I did. This is a very fine piece of equipment, as are the cornucopia of lenses at your disposal. I can't wait to by a D-850.

What an incredible tool to capture images. I remember my first Nikon and then upgrading through the F series. Then switching to digital with the D7000 and now my D810. Has been a journey of joy. Thank you NIKON!!!

I just upgraded to this camera and i am in utter awe. Its a phenomenal piece and it does more than you can imagine. Easy to use, comfortable controls and beautiful photographs. I would absolutely recommend this for any photographers who want to go that extra mile, those who live with a camera in their hands -- this would be the one to live with. I haven't put it down in the three weeks i've had it. Its a new limb.

Most Challenging Camera

I've only had this camera less than a week but I've discovered an undocumented characteristic not mentioned in the reviews or literature. This is the first camera I've owned that has a personality, one that talks back to me and lets me know in no uncertain terms whether I'm doing things right or not. Most reviewers mention its fabulous resolution and the fact that it (along with its older siblings, the D800/D800E) is able to reveal shortcomings in your lenses. I wasn't quite prepared for it t...

The King of DSLR
By Massimo480
I'm surprised that this is not Nikon's most expensive camera, after all it is offering: - best dynamic range - best depth of color - best sharpness The Small Raw addition is wonderful, so are the time-lapse and interval shooting options. Combining the D810 with any of the recommended lenses on DXoMark will give you stunning images! What I strongly suggest everyone doing is going on Flickr and checking out the quality of the D810 with particular lenses. Carl Zeiss lenses tend to be unbeatabl...

The Nikon D810 Digital SLR Camera takes its place as the high resolution option in the Nikon DSLR lineup. It features a 36.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor without an Optical Low Pass Filter for particularly sharp and detailed still imaging. With the addition of the EXPEED 4 Image Processor, performance speed is increased compared to the EXPEED 3 and noise is effectively reduced throughout the ISO range. Continuous shooting speed in FX format is 5 fps and in DX format hits a maximum of 7 fps. In addition, the full HD video capabilities of the D810 have been upgraded to include 1080p capture at 24, 30 and 60 fps. Also, the improved efficiency of the processor enables up to 1200 shots on one battery charge and 40 minutes of video recording. Low light performance has been upgraded thanks to a wide native ISO sensitivity range that runs from 64 to 12,800 and can be expanded from 32 to 51,200.
The advanced Multi-CAM 3500FX autofocus sensor offers 51 AF points with 15 cross-type sensors and Group Area AF enables five AF sensors to be used as one group. This is useful when shooting subjects that cannot be tracked easily by one AF point due to lighting conditions.
As a camera optimized for video capture, the D810 features recording in both FX and DX formats including simultaneous recording to memory cards and an external recorder as well as recording 60p output to an external recorder. The ISO range for video has also been expanded to run from ISO 64 to 12,800 and expand to 51,200. Automatic ISO adjustment in manual mode enables smooth exposure transitions. A built-in stereo microphone is supported as are jacks for an external mic and headphones. A selectable audio frequency range provides exacting control over sound recording.
A 3.2" LCD with 1,229K-dot resolution provides playback viewing and live view and improved coatings on the optical viewfinder components provide brighter images and more accurate colors. Live View function now includes split screen display zoom for stills and zebra highlighting display in video mode. Full aperture metering during live view for still shooting is supported.
Interval and time-lapse shooting feature exposure smoothing and the maximum number of images per sequence is now 9,999. Improved Picture Control settings now offer Flat Picture Control to enable maximum dynamic range and color adjustments in post-production.
The D810 utilizes dual media slots for both Compact Flash and SD cards and it provides a built-in flash with i-TTL metering as well as a hot shoe mount. A larger grip enables comfortable control for extended shooting and a secondary "i" button has been added to back panel for faster access to important settings.
36.3MP FX-Format CMOS Sensor without an Optical Low Pass Filter
Nikon's highest resolution sensor is housed in the D810 and by omitting the Optical Low Pass Filter, the sensor provides superior sharpness and detail. The sensor boasts fast channel readout, wide dynamic range, rich tones and improved imaging at high sensitivities.
EXPEED 4 Image Processor
The EXPEED 4 processor provides 30% faster performance over the EXPEED 3 as well improved low noise imaging throughout the ISO range. Support for 1080p video capture at 60 fps is featured and the processor's increased efficiency enables up to 1200 still shots and 40 minutes of video recording per charge.
Native ISO Range of 64 to 12,800
The improved ISO range compared to the D800 enables more effective low light imaging and the ISO can be expanded from 32 to 51,200.
Advanced Multi-CAM 3500FX Auto Focus Sensor
Versatile AF Modes of 9, 21 and 51 points and 3D tracking enable fast, precise auto focus control. AF sensitivity down to -2 EV is effective in low light and 15 cross-type sensors are compatible with AF NIKKOR lenses with open aperture of f/5.6 or faster. Eleven central focus points work with an open aperture of f/8. Improvements include upgraded 'lock-on', expanded 'store by orientation,' and more options for AF mode restrictions.
Group Area AF
Group Area AF enhances subject detection and tracking in challenging lighting conditions or when shooting comparatively small subjects against a high-contrast background by grouping and monitoring 5 individual AF points. The 5-point AF area can be shifted across the 51-point array as your composition changes.
RAW Size S
Accelerate your workflow with Nikon's RAW Size S file format which delivers 12-bit uncompressed Nikon NEF files that enable faster image transfer and smoother post-production.
Continuous Shooting
In FX mode, the D810 can shoot up to 5 fps and in DX mode it can capture up to 7 fps when utilizing the MB-D12 battery grip with AA batteries.
Reduced Vibration for Sharper Imaging
The D810's shutter/mirror box architecture and electronic front-curtain feature improve overall image clarity. The shutter/mirror mechanism reduces image shake for a steady viewfinder image with minimal blackout during high-speed shooting. When activated, the electronic front-curtain shutter reduces the risk of blur in even subtle details by minimizing internal vibrations during exposure.
Quiet Continuous Mode
A redesigned Sequencer/Balancer Mechanism enables Quiet Continuous Mode for near silent sequential shooting.
Picture Control
In addition to standard, neutral, vivid, monochrome, portrait and landscape, image control options have been expanded to include Flat Picture Control which is geared for shooting in RAW modes and for video capture when adjustments will be made in post-production. Also, a clarity option has been added to all Picture Control settings and better control over Picture Control is enabled by fine 0.25 steps.
Full HD 1080p Video Capture in 60/30/24 fps
Video recording is supported in both FX and DX formats with an ISO range from 64 to 12,800 and expandable to 51, 200. Simultaneous recording to memory cards and to an external recorder is now supported. Auto ISO adjustment is possible in manual mode for smooth exposure transitions. Nikon's 3D noise reduction reduces random noise, distortion and flicker when filming at high sensitivities. Zebra mode on the camera monitor shows you exactly where highlights are. A built-in stereo microphone as well as jacks for external microphone and headphones are provided. You can fine-tune audio levels in isolation both before and during recording and select the sound range (wide/voice).
3.2" LCD Monitor with 1,229k-dot Resolution
A high resolution LCD provides detailed playback viewing and live view capture with color balance and brightness control. A split screen display zoom for still shooting lets you compare two enlarged points in the image for sharpness and exposure.
Optical Viewfinder
Improved coatings on the optical components render brighter and more accurate color and the Organic EL information display makes it easier to make adjustments under bright/dim conditions.
Interval Timer/Time-Lapse Shooting
Exposure smoothing is supported in time-lapse and interval shooting modes and the number of recordable images has been increased to 9,999.
Flash
Both a built-in flash and hot shoe mount are supported with i-TTL metering, as is a flash sync terminal. The built-in flash offers commander mode for wireless control of up to two groups of off-camera flash units.
CF and SD Card Slots
Two card slots are supported for versatile image storage and smoother workflow. One CF card slot for high-speed UDMA 7 cards and one SD card slot for high-speed, high-capacity SDXC and UHS-I cards allow you to use one card as back-up or place still images on one card and video on the other or RAW on one and JPEG on the other.
Form Factor
A deeper hand grip improves handling and a secondary "i" button has been added for easier access to important settings. A durable magnesium alloy body with extensive weather and dust sealing ensure the D810 is moisture- and dust-resistant.
