I live in Maine and enjoy taking photos of birds, especially in the winter. My old eye piece fogged up so easily. Using this eye piece does make a difference. Along with the anti-fogging wipes for the lens, this works great.

The Dk-17A doesn’t fog up as much as the original eyepiece or DK-17F but it will still fog up. Be very careful cleaning it because it will scratch much easier.

Tired of your view finder fogging? Get this and it will stop. It's not expensive, easy to install and really works.

I am a pro-photographer that needs to change things in the field quickly. Although quite functional, this item just can't stand the challenges of field work. Trying to dry, clean, etc this piece without scratching or wearing the anti-fog coating off is impossible. Save your money and get something else in the DK series or go for the DM Series. It is high quality hardend glass.

Get the multicoated Nikon DK17C +0 eyepiece to protect your viewfinder instead, it's cheaper and better quality. The DK17a eyepiece's anti-fog function is executed through a thin coating on the plastic eyepiece. In the manual Nikon forbids you to clean the eyepiece if it get's dirty or greasy. What if you must clean the eyepiece? Well the anti-fogging coating would wear off and the plastic would scratch very easily... Doh, why buy an eye piece where you can't even clean it regularly? Not recommended.
