This thing is very helpful. I don’t have to squint my eyes that much. It’s a Game changer.

Great little thing, keeps you cheek a little away from pressing and smudging against back screen.

Since my eyes are not as good as they used to be, I appreciate the slight magnification of the viewfinder image without blowing the view up so large that the edges can't be seen. Used with the built-in diopter adjustment and the DK-19 rubber eyecup, this eyepiece offers excellent improvement to viewfinders on both my D810 and D850. I'm confident that it will do the same on any other camera that it fits and I recommend it.

This is a very helpful tool. As an old shooter, I love to use the viewfinder and still prefer it over the camera back. This has been a big help to me for my Nikon D500.

This magnifying eyepiece from Nikon makes your entire viewfinder larger. I missed the days of my F2s and medium format cameras where everything looked so much bigger. I heard about this eyepiece and decided to give it a try. It is a much better experience! Sure it blocks a little bit of the corners and some of the information in the viewfinder, but with a little practice you figure out how to make it work. Liked it so much I bought a second one for my back up camera.

I absolutely love the Dk-17M!!! When I was reading about the eyepiece, people told me that it was only for vision correction. I stand corrected. It is not at all! My vision is currently 20/20 and this little device just increases the viewfinder to zoom in exactly around the focus points! I couldn't ask for a better device. I've got this eyepiece on my D800E, my D4, and my D4s. For my D800E, I can essentially look through the viewfinder to see if my subject is sharp or not. You can save a lot of battery life just by looking through the viewfinder. For my D4 and D4s I love being able to look through the viewfinder at football games when coupled with my 400mm. I spend less time trying to track the subject because the focus points appear so large in the viewfinder. I had shot sport games before having the viewfinder and I can't believe I hadn't used the eyepiece. I would absolutely recommend purchasing this for any full frame camera. Again, it will zoom the viewfinder in to the focus points which is exactly what I want.

This is as big as you can make your viewfinder. It really immerses you in the action. And when you hand your camera to someone to take s pic, they freak out because the viewfinder is so big. Only negative, the edges are not sharp.

The DK-17M lives up to its purpose and I am very satisfied. I have one mounted to the Nikon D810 and D500. I purchased them for all time usage. They also help when using manual lenses such as the carl zeiss 21mm and 50mm distagons.

Easy to install (once you know that you must "close" the eyepiece). The difference is significant and important.

What can I say? its an eyepiece. It works well on my D810 and should work well on any Nikon camera body with a 'round' eye piece. I also purchased the eye piece that has the eye cup, then disassembled it and put the eye cup on this magnification eye piece. Worked like a charm! I have no idea why Nikon does not offer a version of this magnification eye piece with the eye cup option.

The eye piece provides a slightly larger image that helps with focusing and framing an image. I use this eyepiece on a Nikon D4 and a D810.

I bought this because I wear glasses and I thought if I used this, I wouldn't have to wear my glasses. It does help to make things more in focus without wearing my glasses and with a little adjustment of the diopter, it is pretty good.

Great quality, but even though I've heard that it does not has a good fit to the camera I have bought it. Excellent, but after two weeks in the field it has dropped and is lost somewhere in my birding forest. Maybe for a study user It will last. Just rub it in your clothes and it will detach and fall from your camera :-(

I installed these in all three of my cameras: D3s, D3, and D700. Initially I purchased only one but I loved the mag. Visually it appears to be almost as big as 100% mag--just like looking in a hole with a 50mm. Cons: It's very clear towards the center area but it's a bit distorted/unsharp on the sides. I got used to that. You either live with it or you don't. I think users are 50/50 on that.

I use Zeiss on my D800 and this magnifying eyepiece helps nail manual focus. Great alternative to a focusing screen.

I love this device on my D800. On my old D200 I used a focusing screen but I don't need one with the D800 because of the larger viewfinder. However, my eyesight is a bit blurred and I often use manual focus lenses & wide aperatures so I bought the eyepiece magnifier to help out. It magnifies the viewfinder by 20%, making it even easier to check focus visually. It does eliminate some of the outer black edges from the viewfinder but nothing is cropped from the image itself. I can still see the green focusing aid dot and the other viewfinder information just fine. The top image corners are a bit vignetted and the very tip is cut off, but it is very minor and but nothing that bothers me. Before, I was using the 2nd last click on the camera's diopter adjustment. Now I can dial it back 2 clicks so I have more room if my vision degrades further. I also tried it wearing glasses, which I don't usually do. The frame edges are clipped a bit wearing glasses, so you may not like it if you must wear glasses using the camera. For installation, the old eypiece screws out on its threads and you replace it with this one. It takes far less than a minute and is very easy for anyone to do.

If you shoot without eyeglasses this is a great improvement on the Nikon viewfinder, otherwise it will greatly reduce your angle of view.

This has just enough magnification that it helps. Its not a huge difference for the price though, My vision is progressively getting worse and worse as I get older and the DK-17M makes me feel normal. I only wish nikon made higher powered magnifiers. Another great bonus is that it fits great on the Pentax 6X7 (67)! If you use this with a DK-19 Cup on the P67, you just have to replace the sheath that secures the cup ring in place with a couple of O-Rings, otherwise the DK-19 pops right off, and you're out $8 bucks (which I learned the hard way).

It makes focusing easier in macro photography. However it reduces the field of view in the viewfinder of my Nikon D700 making it not useful for other kind of photography.

My purpose was to aid manual focusing for macro, tele, AI lenses, etc., and it does noticeably help. Quality of construction and optics is excellent. I wear eyeglasses and do not intend to use it with an eyecup. It brings the already great viewfinder image on a D700 to perhaps very slightly larger or nearly identical as compared to a 1971 film Nikon F (my gold standard) -- based on viewing F and D700, each with its 85/1.8, first viewing separately, then together with one on each eye! (as scientific as I intend to get) Most eyeglass wearers will likely need to shift a bit to see corners (which I also experience on a Nikon F) and to see the bottom display - a personal preference as to whether that's annoying or not, but it's fine for me and I may just always keep it on. I wish Nikon had provided a small hard case to keep it or the regular eyepiece safely at hand or attached to the camera strap in case a quick change is wanted. Very cool gadget - I'm quite satisfied with it.
