VINCE H : With this unit mounted on the accessory shoe of a D7000/D7100 will the built in flash still extend and operate? VinceHARVEY R : The Nikon GP-N100 GPS unit will not fit on a Nikon D7000 or a Nikon D7100 camera body. It will only fit on a Nikon1 system camera body.DAVID M : The GP-N100 only works with the Nikon 1 V1 or V2 camera. The Nikon 1 does not have a standard hot shoe. It has a special hot shoe that is unique to the Nikon 1 series. For the D7000 you can buy the Nikon GP-1 GPS unit. The GP-1 fits into the hot shoe but is connected to the camera with a cable that plugs into the GPS port on the side of your camera. You can not use the flip up flash when the GP-1 is in the hot shoe. The hot shoe is just a place for the GP-1 to sit since the connection to the camera is through the cable. If you want to use the flash and the GPS unit at the same time you can slide the GP-1 out of the hot shoe and just let the unit hang down or tape the unit to your camera strap. Since GPS units only work out doors and most outdoor photos are not taken with a flash you can see why Nikon did not set up a fancy way to use the flash and GPS at the same time. Based on what I've read I would skip the Nikon GPS unit and buy one of the other GPS units that also work with the D7000. The aftermarket units are much cheaper then the Nikon unit and they work as well or better than the Nikon unit.

Very good unit

The unit connects easily to the V1 and rapidly acquires the satellite signal. GPS data is very, very quick, typically 20-30 seconds for a lock. The only problem I've experienced so far is the inability to connect the unit via the computer to the Nikon website for updates. I've downloaded the new software but the GPS unit fails to recognize the new data. Updates for the V1 worked so it may be a problem specific to this unit.

Compact, quick and accurate

Really like this GPS unit. Have used two other GPS units and this one is the quickest to be ready and with my Aperture 3 program it shows excellent location using Google maps. The unit is appropriately sized for the camera. As a person who takes many travel and 'off road' photos I am really pleased to have this unit and would buy it again and willingly recommend it to others.

Compact and accurate

Fits nicely onto the accessory slot of the V! camera body, easy to use, acquires satellite signal very accurately, able to distinguish photo locations about ten feet apart, not so good indoors, works very well even in dense urban environments and even better in rural areas, adds latitude and longitude to the data recorded with each photo, this data can be used to pinpoint the photo location on a map in programmes like Aperture, much more compact in size than Nikon's comparable GPS unit for DSLRs as it has no trailing wires to get tangled in things, altogether a very impressive unit

The Nikon GP-N100 is an optional accessory GPS unit for use with the Nikon 1 V1 camera only. It attaches to the camera's hot shoe.
