The unit connects easily to the V1 and rapidly acquires the satellite signal. GPS data is very, very quick, typically 20-30 seconds for a lock. The only problem I've experienced so far is the inability to connect the unit via the computer to the Nikon website for updates. I've downloaded the new software but the GPS unit fails to recognize the new data. Updates for the V1 worked so it may be a problem specific to this unit.

Really like this GPS unit. Have used two other GPS units and this one is the quickest to be ready and with my Aperture 3 program it shows excellent location using Google maps. The unit is appropriately sized for the camera. As a person who takes many travel and 'off road' photos I am really pleased to have this unit and would buy it again and willingly recommend it to others.

Fits nicely onto the accessory slot of the V! camera body, easy to use, acquires satellite signal very accurately, able to distinguish photo locations about ten feet apart, not so good indoors, works very well even in dense urban environments and even better in rural areas, adds latitude and longitude to the data recorded with each photo, this data can be used to pinpoint the photo location on a map in programmes like Aperture, much more compact in size than Nikon's comparable GPS unit for DSLRs as it has no trailing wires to get tangled in things, altogether a very impressive unit

The Nikon GP-N100 is an optional accessory GPS unit for use with the Nikon 1 V1 camera only. It attaches to the camera's hot shoe.
