Since the HN-CP 17 hood has a standard 58mm filter adapter thread I have been able to experiment with a variety of accessories including digitally multi-coated and old school filters (both threaded and Cokin A system). I have even adapted a vintage System VII 0.4x wide angle (aka 'fisheye' adapter) with a stepping ring, and obtained excellent results. A tip - take a non-digital old school 58mm uv or skylight filter, screw out the retaining ring and remove the glass. A little spray lubricant dropped in the threads helps. Now you have a holder for DIY vignetters or . . . unleash your own imagination. You can't do any of this stuff with most point and shoot cameras. Another tip - get a 58mm lens cap. I got a Nikon branded one intended for a DSLR lens. Works perfectly, looks good.

I was so excited to get the HN-CP17 lens hood for my P7700. Finally a hood for a point and shoot. I already had the protective filter on... unfortunately you cannot use the lens cap when you have the filter and hood installed. Am I doing something wrong?
