Great for wedding sessions and any other extended camera usage periods, although it adds to the weight.

Great addition to my D500. I can shoot all day with the battery power in this grip and it makes shooting vertical a breeze.

I am using this battery pack with my Nikon D500. It works very well and I have had no problems setting it up and using it. The vertical shots are easy to use and at the same time switch back to horizontal. The battery compartment is very easy to unload and change batteries. The MB-D17 is light, well made and lives up to all the positive reviews. So far I mostly use it for sports photos and have done a number of soccer games outside. Since I am new with this, it took be a few shots to get used to the zoom using the battery pack. I have used the 100-400mm and 70-200mm lens on the D500.

Excellent fit and finish. The double AA battery holder saved me at least once; dead batteries and no charger. A trip to the corner convenience store got me back up and running.

This is a nice vertical grip for the D500. I wish it upped the frames per second like the one for the D850 does. Otherwise, it's a quality product, with good controls and feels comfortable and sturdy in your hand. The biggest advantage (other than the vertical controls) is the ability to use the longer-lasting D5/D4/D4s batteries.

I love this battery pack on my NIKON D500. It gives me twice the battery life while on a shoot- as well as giving you a nice firm grip when shooting vertically. Makes the camera feel more solid.

This grip has been a life-saver on the job. I pack it with Panasonic's Eneloop rechargeable batteries (also highly recommended) and combined with the battery in the D500 the battery life with this grip lasted me a solid 9 hours (roughly 1500-2000 snaps). I even had some battery left at the end of the night. If you're going to be using the D500 for any period of time longer than 2 hours at a time, I highly suggest you grab this battery grip. It also has the plus side of making the camera more stable in-hand. I'm one of those guys that feels more secure the heavier the item is and this gives that sense of security.

Well built, but for a hoppyist it seems a little overkill. If one can shoot 900 photos with one battery (in camera), then don't see the big value in having a battery backup unless you are far, far away from a place to charge batteries. But I was sort of forced into buying a bundle because the camera body only price was the same as the bundle price which came with the battery grip. Plus I was told that the battery grip was an Adorama copy of NIkon's. But that turned out to be false. The grip was a true Nikon product price. I would rather that amount be taken off the camera body price and paid a lot less $ for the D500.

Don't leave home without it is my opinion tho my wife prefers her D500 without the bulk. Ieave it on and we get both the verticle controls and Etta battery.....

I have and use Nikon D4 and D4s cameras, and adding this grip means that I have the same ability to easily shoot in portrait mode. I does add some weight and bulk, but that isn't a problem for me. I also prefer to use EN-EL18a batteries, and this grip allows me to keep one type of battery as spares. The description is wrong in the web page. You do need to purchase the Nikon BL-5 battery adaptor to use the EN-EL 18a battery. This is the same adaptor used for the Nikon D810 grip.

Extra battery. Vertical shutter release. Better grip on the camera. The only way to go ...

Hello everyone, I've owned a D3200, D3, D4, D4S, D5, than I thought the price was indecent so I sold my D5 and bought the D500 Very pleased with it! But god, the battery grip at such an indecent price it is ridiculous! Even if it's a great grip we should never encourage prices like that, it's simply indecent! Understand that if you bought the small light D500 camera you want to keep it that way

This piece is solid and adds important battery power and shooting flexibility to the D500. A must-have item for action shooting for sure.

A must have if you own a Nikon D500 ! Especially if you hand-held shoot as I often do because it makes the rather light D500light body heavier & thus more steadier like the D5 ! Also when you are shooting vertical, that grip button has almost all the functions of the horizontal one.

The MB-D17 is smooth and easy to attach. It give the body a bigger more comfortable feel and a great vertical firing position button that you can lockout when not being used. I am using AA's so far and is working well.

Best Grip Ever
By IndyRick
This is the third Nikon vertical grip I've owned, and this one is perfect. It fits solidly on my camera, and the control action is the same as what is on the body. The only negative, in my opinion, is the firmware (NOT hardware) functionality of the FN button (I've already covered this in my D500 review).
Provides the Ultimate Power Source
By Scripps23
In addition to making vertical images much easier to shoot, and in addition to powering your Nikon D500 camera body with a second battery, many people do not know that you can insert Nikon's most powerful battery, the EN-EL18 or EN-EL18a, into the MB-D17 Multi Battery Power Pack for maximum power and maximum number of exposures on a charge. All you need to insert this battery into this vertical grip is an optional Nikon BL-5 battery chamber cover.
Let the MB-D17 Multi Power Battery Pack elevate your photography experience with your Nikon D500 digital camera. This high-quality, durable battery pack significantly increases the number of shots you can capture per charge, making it an indispensable accessory for avid photographers.
Designed with convenience in mind, the MB-D17 features a shutter release button and an Fn button, simplifying vertical shooting and enhancing your camera's functionality. This compact power pack can be reliably powered by either eight AA batteries or a single EN-EL15 or EN-EL18a Lithium Ion battery, offering flexibility based on your shooting needs and battery availability.
When utilizing eight AA batteries, the MB-D17 employs the MS-D12 Battery Holder, ensuring a secure and reliable power source. If you opt for the EN-EL15 battery, the MB-D17 uses the MS-D12EN Rechargeable Li-ion Battery Holder for optimal performance. No battery holder is required when using the EN-EL18a to power the MB-D17, adding to its convenience factor.
Additionally, the MB-D17 Multi Power Battery Pack can also be powered via the EH-5b AC power adapter using the EP-5B power connector, providing an alternative power source when you're in a studio setting or near an outlet.
In essence, the MB-D17 Multi Power Battery Pack for the Nikon D500 digital camera is a versatile, reliable, and high-quality accessory that ensures you never miss a shot due to power shortage.
