I wish I could give this minus one star. I had the original NX And liked it very much so I wanted to use NX 2 when I got my new D 7200. So I bought the upgrade. Only to find out they will not read the new NEF files and that is totally useless. Put your money elsewhere

I haven't had the time to really check out the software al a lot of photos. However the two or three in which I enhanced the sky, using the Color Control Point were quite good. I'm happy that I bought the software, but it will take a while to completely test it.

Software won't open a NEF from my D750 on a Windows 10 system. How much notification did Nikon get that W10 was on its way?? I knew about it "before dirt". NX2 2.4.1 and Codec 1.27.0.

I've been using the NX capture with my now old D700. Just upgraded to a D750 and realizing that the NX capture is not supporting this camera?? Any suggestion???

I am remiss in not writing this review a few years ago. First, about us. We shoot all the expected photographic opportunities but concentrate on Sports, both indoor and outdoor. We use several cameras ranging from point-and-shoot to DSLRs. i use two D700s with MB-D10 battery pack. We have five Capture NX 2 licenses hosted on XP and 64 bit Windows 7 desktops and a laptop.. and have been using the product for many years. We have processed many thousands of images with the product, obtaining extraordinary finished image quality. We have not experienced the problems identified in other reviews. Capture NX2 is designed for the photographer. Its work flow is well organized for post-capture image processing. It is well thought-out, logical and photographer-friendly.We have used all of the features listed in Nikon's Key Feature list. The tool box supports automatic as well as user-specified image correction.images are operated on in real time so image enhancement effects are immediately displayed. The base image data is not modified and every operation is completely reversible. This nondestructive feature saves a lot of reprocessing time. Multiple edits can be saved, recalled, and compared. An important feature for us is that enhancements can be made to parts of an image or to the entire image. For example, a door's color in a brick wall was distracting. Using U Point technology, a Color Control Point was placed on the door and from the color selection list, a new color was selected. The door's color and only its color was changed. We frequently use this technology to enhance the luminescence of a field hockey, Lacrosse, or basketball so its location in the image is apparent. We have also used this technology to transfer an exact color from one image to another image. Although there are tools that apply to both raw-format and JPEG images, a greater number of enhancements are available for raw image processing. So we shoot and process in camera raw and as a final step, batch process from raw to JPEG. Easy! NX2 supports image preparation for printing; you see in the print very close to what you saw on the screen. With NX2 the old film adage of shoot for the highlights applies. The D-Lighting tool allows shadow areas, and only shadow areas to be selectively lightened. The Auto-Retouch brush will remove electrical wires from an image. The pimple on the young woman's face that she believes is four inches in diameter is easily removed (although we have yet to apply it to an actual four inch pimple). However, there are situations where we have had difficulty in removing a distracting pile of T-shirts from an image; the tool,or us, are defeated. We generally turn to the crop tool to remove the distraction. We found the learning curve to be significantly shorter than with similar post-processing tools. The Nikon Manual covers what can be accomplished; the how and why are best learned from third-party books. We benefited from Mike Hagen's "Nikon Capture NX2 After the Shoot" and Ben Long's "Real World Nikon Capture NX2". We note that NX2 does not support Nikon's recent Camera offerings. We have not found U Point Technology on Capture NX-D, so it is not a suitable replacement for NX2.

It's interesting that Nikon has discontinued support for NX2 and still charges $179 for the software! Very disappointed that we no longer have a decent RAW converter for Nikon NEF files. So why should I even own Nikon equipment if there is no software available that read NEF files?

I liked how easy I can find any and all the information of how the picture was taken. For example; what camera body was used, or what lens was used and at focal length, etc...

I bought this soft ware to go with my 10.5mm 2.8 fisheye lens. It is easy to use, the manuals are easy to read. It comes with a shortcut booklet that is very handy. I bought it mainly to eliminate the curved lines created when using the fish eye lens, It does this as well as being able to edit. for what I do it's great. Haven't tried any of the other photo software out there yet so only gave it a 4

A simple photo-oriented program. Crashes often, slow and Nikon support is inadequate. Too bad.

Using it since 2009, with multiple Nikon cameras, I also use competitor products, the best image quality is always obtained by using NX2 and that is by a wide margin. Colors are better, sharpness is better, noise reduction is better. unless the exposure needs a lot of correction, the the competition might be able to recover shadows a bit better. control points, color LCH, color balance high pass, unsharp mask are a few things that I can do better in NX2. Some if this corrections require layers when using other competitor products. Some persistent bugs have lived in NX2 for a long time, but the competition also have a few. used together with color efex pro I have produced my best images using this software.

I would say this is the right software, this is the one. I've tried others but Capture NX2 is the one that brings better quality and the right options for photographs, photographs taken on Nikon cameras. There is no better choice. You may decide to use other software, there are really good ones, it is also a personal choice, but if you take NEF files, there are no one better than Capture NX2 working together with View NX2. Different from some others reviews I found it easy and intuitive, organized, obvious workflow, comfortable, just right. Those that like a lot a menus, distort pictures, redundant options, it is frustrating. But if you are a photographer it works just like you. Just remember that you will be working with BIG files and processing time depends on the machine you have, but Capture NX2 is faster than some others choices and equals to the tops ones, It is the best for NEF files. Give a month try, but put one thing in mind : this software is for photographers not for graphic artists.

Save your money and find another product. After fighting with this product for over nine months, the technical support team at Nikon reported that they could not find any way to remedy two seemingly simple problems that are fundamental to any photoediting software. 1- The inability to have three critical functions (file selection, image selection and metadata information) affix to the Nikon work screen and/or moved on the desktop. By being fixed to the computer desktop and not software workspace, my ability to edit images is, at minimum greatly limited, and at times totally impossible. 2- The selected image hides behind the immovable critical function selection bar. .While manually moving the image within the workspace seems like a no-brainer, the extra steps become an annoying time consuming process when there are multiple images that require attention. 3- Functionnality present similar products are missing. Nikon NX 2 doesn't offer the same range of photo-editing functions present in comparable software programs (e.g., Adobe) offered at a similar price point. 4-Nikon's suggested solutions remain suspect. Nikon recommends using my existing license to complete the time consuming process of reinstalling the software--along with all associated updates. However, Nikon provides two licenses, period! Previous licensees report Nikon requires end-users to purchase another software license in situations where new computers are purchased or reinstalling the software after Capture NX 2 crashes the computer. While technical support assert that the licensing agreement can be modified, previous experiences with Nikon customer support and customer relations leave me dubious. Summary, This software is counter intuitive and contain disturbing design flaws. The glaring problems require time consuming and annoying work arounds that are easily remedied by effective software design. Other products at similar price points offer greater functionality. Lastly, it seems that the offered solution may prove costly, if Nikon is not willing to support end-users who must purchase additional licenses despite problems inherent in the Nikon software.

I find it difficult to understand how a supposedly techno savvy company such as Nikon can release this, at the price they do and expect users to operate and use it. Easily fixable bugs as mentioned in other reviews are ignored and fixes, when they do come along, concentrate on adding new models! Who is it aimed at? The professional will ignore it and the hobby photographer abhor it. I'd be very surprised to hear of a professional photographer using this, (even if they were sponsored to do so!) A clunky eclectic interface that does nothing to improve workflow and the features available are to be found in free software elsewhere. Charging a premium price for this is a marketing mystery. About time Nikon dropped this and invested in some software that does the job rather than trying to just looks different. Avoid this one if you want software to easily adjust images.

According to the PC requirements on the box to run this program, seems like almost any computer will run it. I work with RAW files from my D7000, P7100 and D3000. No matter which ones I edit, the software has slow performance “bursts” like it tries to save any adjustment you perform on the image. This makes the computer very slow to the point that you almost cannot move your mouse cursor for a few seconds, at first it might don’t bother you, but if you start editing several images in one session, it really gets annoying. I don’t think is a computer issue, my computer runs the latest games pretty decent. I have a Dell XPSL702X, 64bit, Windows 7 Home premium, Intel Core i5 2.3GHz with 8GB of RAM, and 3D capable with Nvidia Graphics. I just think that if this software needs more power to run it, it should say so in the requirements. I hope this issue could get resolved on next updates, I really like it.

The program works good for batching images & manipulating raw images. However you can not queue multiple batches like the old Nikon Capture & you can NOT transfer the 2(?) licenses from an old computer to a new computer. Nikon forces you to buy another license. :( Customer service also leaves much to be desired.

It's a simple to use, yet powerful software. I use it most of the times even for portrait retouching on "easy" photos. It is possible to apply multiple similar adjustments, something you can't in ACR or LR. Unfortunately it seems that Nikon itself likes the software less than it's users. Updates and new features are almost none. This software deserves more Nikon!

I had to buy this when Nikon couldn't get their free software - View NX2 - to work with my new camera - Nikon D3200 - for editing RAW files. But I'm glad I have it now. It's easy to use and does some really nice stuff with RAW files. Great for jpegs too. My photos from my D3200 AND my D700 look much better now.

I can't imagine why my recently purchased Capture NX2 will not open my NEF files from my new D3200. The camera is listed under the "Compatible With" tab above. Apparently it is incumbent on me, the customer, search for a answer. Nikon should anticipate the difficulties that their customers will have making the cameras and software compatible.

Wonderful platform but PUHLEESE keep it updated with Nik Plugins
By NX2 F.
I've used this product for three years and was thrilled that it was updated to work with the new Lion OS. Let me be perfectly c;ear, this is a great product. The shortcomings are that updates are slow and sporadic and it doesn't work with the Nik plug-ins except the old Color Efex 3. I would NEVER use anything but NX2 if they would just keep it updated quicker and let Nik make all their plug-ins compatible. This is the most intuitive editing software I've ever used.
Capture NX 2 is a full-featured non-destructive photo editing program that provides photographers powerful tools to quickly and easily edit their photographs.
Color Control Points: Enhancements for hue, brightness and saturation are as simple as placing a Color Control Point on your image, then adjusting the length of the sliders. For example, Color Control Points are remarkably convenient for changing the color of flowers for better effect against green surrounding foliage. Take a dull gray sky and add blue to change the mood of a captured scene.
NEW! Selection Control Points: Now you can selectively edit photographs without the need to manually outline or mask the area for editing. Simply place a Selection Control Point anywhere on the photograph then choose from almost any adjustment such as D-Lighting, Unsharp Mask or Noise Reduction, while limiting the "reach" of that adjustment to just the selected area.
NEW! Auto-Retouch Brush: Capture NX 2 adds an automatic retouch tool to its image editing toolbox allowing users to seamlessly remove blemishes, dust and other distracting elements from photographs while maintaining the integrity of the image.
NEW! Shadow/Highlight Adjustment: With just a simple slider adjustment you can easily open up shadows or recover blown-out highlights. Highlight recovery is most effective for RAW (NEF) files however it will work with JPEG and TIFF files as well.
