This camera, the J1 in the Nikon Housing, does not coordinates the camera with the Sea&Sea YS 02 Strobe, basically it fires the flash before the courtain or shutter opens, the pictures come out as if the flash never fired, although you see that it does. So think of it as a video housing, as a an underwater housing to take pictures using extra external flashes is useless. I wasted my money here, as I already have a non-Nikon housing for the same camera that costs 5 times less and does everything this housing does. You can try all the settings in the camera and the housing, the only one where the two coordinated the light out is setting the camera to Manual in rear window, the flash at 1/2 power (TTL or no TTL in the flash does not changes the problem), and the camera shutter at 1/6 sec or less, if you increase the shutter speed it does not works. All pictures come out dark. I wish I never bought this housing and Nikon should inform buyers of this problem.

I have used this on about 25 dives at this point and it is a great housing. To be concerned with the 130' "limitation" is ridiculous. I have been diving for over 15 years and have only gone below that a handful of times. For safe recreational diving limits it is more than ample. I like being able to access all of the features, including zoom, and have mine set up with 2 Sea & Sea YS-D1's on Sea Arm VII's. I was looking at a complete setup for my SLR's, but they were at least twice the price, and if the housing fails, I'm out far less money for a camera. I know there is a picture quality trade-off, but I'm still pretty new at taking UW photos.

decent package, as stated below the 130ft limitation is a bit of a downfall, but the fact that it is one of the only housings that you can get that has strobe capability is great, and at $800 its a steal for a good quality housing, considering the Ni-Mar housing is around $1800. basically any housing you buy will cost close to double or more of what the camera is worth, you can get cheap acrylic housings on eBay but they are poor quality and i wouldn't trust them past snorkeling. Very Happy with the housing, i have it paired with 2 Ike-lite strobes and tray. i gave it 4/5 simply due to the depth limitation, its a 5/5 for everything else with full camera functionality, this really is a great camera for recreational diving!

The previous reviewer may not understand what underwater camera housings cost. The list price for this one seems VERY reasonable. Most underwater housings for decent DSLRs cost $1600 and up (way up in many cases). The only slightly obnoxious thing is the 130 ft limitation, but since there is not much light deeper than than and diving gets very technical below that depth, this housing would be quite useful for not too much money.

The Nikon j1 or j2 is price ranges from around $400-$700. The fact that the waterproof housing is more expensive than the camera is outrageous. The housing shouldn't be more than $200.
