This adapter is used quite frequently to wirelessly tether the camera to my tablet (Android), but I found the Nikon software not user friendly and once running, I have to basically shutdown the tablet to stop the program. I do use another tethering software that is great but not free. This allows me to set the camera up and control from the tablet via Live View. transfer of images is slow but taking portraits and having them available to view without wires is a plus.

I purchased this just before vacation just so I would be able to put a few pics up online while we were away. I use an iPhone 5 and an iPad mini with this device. I use it to copy pictures off of my D610 onto either device and do some image processing in Light room Mobile before posting on Facebook or sending them to friends and family. Everything works as expected almost every time. I am only giving it 4 stars because I did have issues with the wifi connection a few times and I don't really know if it was the actual device, my iOS devices, or just some sort of combined interference. The remote trigger is nice to have because you can see what you are shooting and also focus just by touching on the screen. All in all it is an awesome product from Nikon that I would absolutely recommend to everyone, especially at the refurbished price.

I bought 1, then another, and they BOTH wouldn't stay connected to my Android Note 3 phone. connect/disconnect over & over again. I found a note on the net about turning ON Airplane mode AND Wifi at the same time, and then I was able to maintain the connection. The Nikon software for this devices is VERY basic, but there are better apps out there. Definitely worth $25 to at least play around with!

Not perfect by any means, but useful for WiFi-based control of camera out in the wild with no other WiFi competing. I wonder whether a bluetooth link would be better since that could be "multi-homed", i.e., could serve the connection to the camera AND another device at the same time. Works at advertised, with few flaws: 1. WPA-2 encryption does NOT accept blanks in passphrase, and 2. BIG (raw) files failed to transfer successfully for me from my D600. The first flaw required a factory reset since I could not log into the setup (my passphrase had blanks). Looks like a bug to me since they seem to only accept passwords that comply with the older WEP encryption standards. I am also worried about the mechanical durabibilty of the plug, given that the device sticks out (protrudes) from the left side of the camera. Better be careful! Not for rough field use!

This product is great for the photographer who needs to be able to view and show his or her work on location. It doesn't require bulky laptops or dedicated monitors, and you can use it to do more than what the Nikon application supports. First, let me explain how it works: (1) you plug this device into your camera, (2) you connect to the drive via a smartphone or tablet, (3) you control the camera's shutter and live view using your smartphone or tablet, (4) you download the images from your camera to your smartphone or tablet! It's that simple. From there, you can edit and email your photos and upload them to the cloud, or just keep them on your smartphone or tablet. If that sounds like a great value, keep in mind that I just gave you the most limited use of the WU-1B with the Nikon app. There are other apps (at least on the Android Marketplace) that work with the WU-1B that allow much more, such as aperture control, mode selection, GEOTAGGING, exposure delay, and more! That app is called DSLR dashboard, by the way. But the point of this review is not to downplay the usefulness of the Nikon app--it's to let you know that I addition to the advertised functionality of the "approved" there are many more value-added possibilities. Get the product and you'll see what I'm talking about. As far as shortcomings go with the WU-1B, there aren't any that would make me rethink my purchase, or look to another similar product offered by a competitor. The connection to the camera is Nikon-to-Nikon, not some third-party device that I have to worry about electrical issues or compatibility concerns. It drains the battery a little more, but that's to be expected when connecting another device to your camera. I highly recommend this product, because the refurbished price is half the price of a new product. I can't think of another opportunity to be able to get a Nikon product at HALF-PRICE that isn't on some crazy discount!
